housework and gender

Why is it that women end up doing way more housework than men? It seems unfair, but I always find the issue confusing because of course within the family we want to be generous with our time, but at the same time, the personal is political.

I was just thinking about it after reading this article, and I was curious if anyone here had any thoughts about it.

Because men will live in much more squalor and filth than women will.
Or, in other words, men's definition of clean is less strict.
My work here is, finally, done.
