It is Mars One's goal to establish a human settlement on Mars.

Human settlement of Mars is the next giant leap for humankind. Exploring the solar system as a united humanity will bring us all closer together.
Mars is the stepping stone of the human race on its voyage into the universe. Human settlement on Mars will aid our understanding of the origins of the solar system, the origins of life and our place in the universe. As with the Apollo Moon landings, a human mission to Mars will inspire generations to believe that all things are possible, anything can be achieved.

What the actual $&@*?

The government or Nasa, whomever.. is literally sending people to space and they can NEVER come back. What if this plan is a total blow out and they all die? Or aliens follow us back or something?

The cost of the launch is around 10 billion US dollars.
Let's shake things off with a boom

A lot of the finalist are starting to speak out against the mission now. Apparently they believe its ripping people off. Personally I believe it pretty cool. These past few years humanity have really been trying to thrust us into a new age of technology. New tech standards are being set everyday. This just always seemed like the natural next step for humanity. Humanity in general i mean.
