I'm a Japanophile and an anime fan, but OMG this is creepy. The Wall Street Journal, always on top of social trends, reports:

Only in Japan, Real Men Go to a Hotel With Virtual Girlfriends

ATAMI, Japan—This resort town, once popular with honeymooners, is turning to a new breed of romance seekers—virtual sweethearts. ... In the first month of the city's promotional campaign launched July 10, more than 1,500 male fans of the Japanese dating-simulation game LovePlus+ have flocked to Atami for a romantic date with their videogame character girlfriends. ... The men are real. The girls are cartoon characters on a screen. The trips are actual, can be expensive and aim to re-create the virtual weekend outing featured in the game, a product of Konami Corp. played on Nintendo Co.'s DS videogame system.

http://online.wsj.com...

The participants are not serious, any more than the cosplayers at a Star Trek convention think that their characters are real. But still ...

Yep that's wierd, and things are only going to get wierder.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

I'm convinced that virtual dating is going to be the wave of the future, with virtual reality consoles that allow you to not only play video games in realistic 3D virtual reality settings but actually do a lot more include perhaps travel...? Perhaps tour virtual Rome and it can look realistic? Or think about it -- E-harmony allowing you to go on virtual dates lol. I also started reading this book awhile back (I really need to finish it) called Love and Sex with Robots which basically explores one psychologist's opinion on love and attachment, and why it's very possible that in the future people will design robots as romantic partners. It seems a bit far fetched at first glance but again I'll have to finish the book and hear the whole hypothesis. It sounds interesting so far. Things like this just prove we're headed in that direction. I mean we already have robot porn (where you can watch girls get screwed by robots... yeah, not my thing) so who knows what's next for glorious humanity.

We have sex dolls and robots that can play football or clean the house. I don't think actual sex robots, with a pre-programmed personality and language database etc are that far fetched.

Personally I am looking forward for direct brain interfaces and virtual worlds, thats when society is going to get really strange.

Let's just say that the Japanese are very unique in many ways. :) Oh well. They're also cool.

I saw a video on EFukt of a Japanese guy who was having sex with a "woman", and when he found out it wasn't a woman, he didn't care. Very lax in Japan.

One time, on EFukt, I accidently watched gay porn and kinda liked it.

Too much information.

I can link you in a PM if you want, if that's your thing. EFukt is for giggles, not fapping.

not gonna lie, its a little creepy. but hey, if it makes them happy....

in the back of my mind i assume something like that can't really make someone happy... but theres no real reason why it would be impossible. the other problem i have is that its totally fake- like choosing to live in the matrix instead of reality.
evidently i only come to ddo to avoid doing homework...

Kinda strange, but I some how don't find this surprising at all. Sex dolls have been around for some time now, and it was only a matter of time until the digital age got involved in peoples' sick fantasies.

Life with robots is a recurring anime topic. Chobits and Mahoromatic are good examples. For some reason the robots are always cute girls. The stories eem to say that robot relationships can work, but you have to understand that disk crash can ruin everything.

I think the Atami thing is harmless, but it's surprising how fast robots are moving up in society.

Will they be allowed to vote soon? If so what happens if someone programs a million robots to vote for X canidate?
