Is the US more violent than the UK?

Excluding homicide - ie is the US more violent than the UK when we consider only non-homicidal violence?

Violent crime is actually higher in the U.K per capita.

Correct, most people Ive discussed this with in the UK automatically assume the US is more violent, I think that gun crime misconveys this.

I tell people "You think the US is violent? what do you think the UK would be like if guns laws were similar to the US"?

Personally I think it is about the same. Neither are on the whole violent countries and both have civilized societies and effective law enforcement. The area of the UK I live in there is never any violent crime, but obviously it must happen here somewhere! It's the same with every country. You get rougher areas where crime is higher.

Which areas of the UK have the highest and lowest crime rates? I think the area in US with the lowest crime rate is New England.
