Depends what definition of "Sport" you choose.
It came to be at its height. It was commanded to command. It was a capital before its first stone was laid. It was a monument to the spirit of man.

In the relationship between Obama and the rest of the U.S..... I think the U.S. is getting the short end of the hockey stick.

Interesting topic and lol at drowning quote.

Swimming that's racing against others or against the clock is definitely a sport but things like diving are greyer areas.

Synchronised swimming is not a sport, it's dance.

@Nik: Darts and snooker are games not sports imo. Bloody good games too! although darts is better to play and snooker is better to watch (one thing I miss slightly about television.)

I've actually had quite detailed discussions on these issues in the past (sad isn't it?) and I think you can break down most of these physical activities to four separate but often overlapping categories:

Sport: Includes competitive element and some degree of physical exertion.
Game: Includes competitive element and some degree of tactics or skill.
Physical artform: Includes expressive arts like dance and also martial arts and any physical activity that requires or encourages gracefulness and flair.
Exercise: Includes physical exertion. (note: all sports are exercise)

So football (both kinds) are a sport and a game although soccer is more of an art.
Throwing a discuss is a sport and an art.
Boxing is a sport, an art and probably a game too.
Chess is just a game.
Jogging is just exercise.

You get the idea.
