The Pats perennially have one of the best offenses in the league, but could this be their worst year in a long time? They obviously are stacked at TE with Hernandez and Gronk, and Brady is a machine, but I don't see much in the way of other skill-position players that are going to be able to break out this season. Their best receiver is probably going to be Danny Amendola, who is just a slot guy if I'm not mistaken and not half as good as Welker. Who knows if he'll flop under the system as well, as so many Pats' receivers do when they get there. Pats other current receivers: Kamar Aiken, Jeremy Ebert, Julian Edelman, Andre Holmes, Michael Jenkins, Donald Jones, Matthew Slater. They may very well lack a true #1 and true #2 receiver this year, and Brady could have to start forcing the ball out of frustration.

Their running game was pretty good last year, but less threats out deep mean more men in the box and Ridley's 1200-yard 2012 season could prove to be a fluke. Add to that one of the worst-pass defenses in the league and we can see that this is probably going to be Miami's biggest chance at a playoff run in a long time.

Gronkowski and Hernandez are receivers. The two of them are almost always on the field, so they're pretty much eligible wideouts every play.

A receiving trio of Gronk-Hernandez-Amendola is still a top 5 receiving corps. Who are you gonna put ahead of that? The Falcons, Giants, Saints, and Broncos are the only teams that I'd say have a better cast.

There's no reason to think Amendola can't match Welker's production (or at least approach it). Welker had 67 catches the year before he went to the Pats, and had 112 after joining them. Amendola had 63 last year, similar to Welker's numbers. I don't see any reason to believe he can't experience the same jump.

And if Amendola can have similar numbers as Welker, then their offense will be fine. They had no outside WR in 2010 either, but still had an elite offense and made the Super Bowl...even without Stefan Ridley.

However, its still in their best interests if they can get a deep threat. They were going after Emmanuel Sanders, but the Steelers bought him out. They'll have to look for someone else.

I think their secondary will be fine. With Talib resigned, they become an average pass defense instead of a bad one.

In any case, the idea that they're going to have a "poor offense" is just weird. The only case you can make is that they'll be above average rather than dominant.

Gronk and Hernandez can't take the top off the defense; defenses can play the run and not worry about anyone blowing past the safeties. They are also going to have blocking assignments which will limit their usage - they aren't wide-outs.

Amendola could be all of what you said, but that is extremely unlikely. The Pats have a very complex system and he could very well be more of a liability than an asset - nobody will know until we see him play a few games. And saying he will just 'become' Welker is absurd, Welker is an elite receiver who's had more receptions over the past few years than any other receiver in the league. Yeah, Brady's a significant part of that, but most of the work is Welker's own. And let's not forget that Amendola is going to draw a lot of attention in the slot now that there are no #1 or #2 receivers out there to worry about!

Ridley had one decent year so far but we'll see what he does without Lloyd and Welker running circles around people in the secondary. Of course, nobody can say for sure if a draft pick or one of these other no-names will break out, but if neither of that happens, I just don't see anybody at the skill-positions making much of a threat to opposing defenses. Brady will make some great throws, but that isn't going to be something to depend on week-in and week-out. Bad receivers don't just make interceptions by making the QB force throws, they cause them in other ways (e.g., bobbling the ball, missing routes, etc.). Brady can't carry a bad receiving corps by himself.

I think you're talking about Manning. You see, Brady didn't put up bigtime numbers until he got Randy Moss and Wes Welker.

I only count 3 as a head coach, not sure what position he had under previous teams to get another two but that would have been ancient history (70s or 80s?).

What has he done lately? It's been almost a decade since he was fitted for a new ring. He's yesterday's news, and you can tell the way he refuses post-game interviews, exits games early... he is nothing more than a sore loser and will be until they get rid of him. He is also a proven cheater.

How does refusing post-game interviews and exiting games early show he is a bad coach haha? At most it would show he is a sore loser that knows how to win superbowls. I have absolutely no problem with any of that. Is he extremely confident, borderline cocky, of course. Good. If I'm a player I want my coach like that. If I'm a coach I want my players like that. All the great players are. Ill say almost all the great players cause I know you will name 2 or 3 out of the top 1,000 best players and tell me I'm wrong haha.

As far as the cheating goes, I don't really care about that either. The majority of the teams in the NFL do and I know that you know that because you're a smart guy and you know your stuff for the most part. They just got caught. Cheaters often win because winners often cheat.

What? -_-
And no they have Tom Brady, guaranteed a top offense in the league. Tom Brady is gonna make Amendola the new Welker. No really difference. Belichick knows what he is doing, he has a long history of getting rid of good players and replacing them with players who can contribute the same.

Gronk needs a fourth surgery on his arm, now he might need back surgery. Not looking good for the Patriots offense, they need him this season more than ever!
