At the 30 yr mark it seems to be the hill for running backs.

LT
Westbrook
Jones
Portis

Who is next?
These guys are still good, who wants them?

This is sad.

Even more so then QBs, these guys take the most hits on the field. And as the body ages, it becomes more susceptible to injuries. Not many RBs do make it past 30 and those that do are already on the down side of their peak.

No, but they are next in line to be looked at for release.

really? why? jones has a lot left in the tank he just rushed for 1400 yards this season
Portis is still 28 and he can still put in like 2 years of good production he just struggled with injuries. But I guess I can't put it past mike shanahan to throw Portis away again.

UPDATE: More evidence is forming that Jones is likely a goner, including the Jets GM hinting this weekend that the team is close to saying goodbye.

"We are getting closer to a decision there, but nothing has been finalized yet," Mike Tannenbaum said. "All I can say is we were fortunate we traded for him three years ago."

Sure sounds like breakup talk, doesn't it?

With two fellow 30-something running backs already cut this week, the focus turns to Thomas Jones. The issue, as usual, is money. Jones was displeased with his wages heading into the 2009 season, and the team might expect him to take even less to return. A decision could come quite soon, with a $3 million bonus due on March 9, per NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Twitter. Jones was also the subject of a tweet from Chris Mortensen on Thursday night: "I do not believe he will be a Jet by March 5."

Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Jets will meet with Jones' agent Drew Rosenhaus at the draft combine in Indy this week to discuss matters. It's possible that the two sides could find common ground by restructuring Jones' deal.

If Jones is not retained, we previously speculated that he could get some interest from the Chargers and Texans, both of whom will need a between-the-tackles back for 2010, and the Lions might also be an option. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune thinks that the Patriots might be interested, along with the Eagles and Dolphins if certain dominoes fall.
