For anyone familiar with the Pittsburgh Pirates your aware that Alvarez is now a free agent, my opinion on him was that he was an okay player. But maybe it's best Alvarez and the Pirates parted ways. what are your thoughts?

Apparently the O's and GM Dan Duquette have interest in Alvarez to replace Chris Davis
My first thought: No, just no.

Alvarez is a solid offensive player with some power, but even then he's still a decrease from Chris Davis. Defensively, he's mediocre, and even that is putting it nicely. Part of Showalter's philosophy is to have a strong defensive infield and Machado (3rd base), Hardy (shortstop), Schoop (2nd base), and Davis (1st base) have each been premiere defenders the past 3 years. Alvarez had a WAR of 0.2, not exactly a sign of an excellent defender.
