HP a6400z
AMD athlon 64 X2 dual core 4400+ (2.3 ghz), 1MB L2 cache.
4 GB dual channel DDR2 Ram. Rated for overclocking but motherboard locks it.
320 GB hard drive.
Windows 7 64 bit.
Nvidia GTX 460 graphics card, factory overclocked.
Graphics, OS, and memory were upgraded from original specifications. Processor has some serious envy going on, the poor thing.

Frankenstein computer(I built it)

I'm not going to bore people with the details, because really, who gives a sh!t? Then again, this is a topic about...

...

The important stuff.

Windows XP
3 Gigs of Ram
2.66ghz quad-core intel Q6700 cpu
GeForce 9500 GT with a gig
Terrabyte hardrive

No one cares about motherboards, keyboards, soundcards, monitors, etc, so I won't even bother to post.

Building your own computer is a lot cheaper than buying a pre-made, and it isn't as hard as someone who has no idea might think.

Gotta be easier than upgrading, especially when you need to fit in a power supply that's more than twice the size of the original. I'll probably self-build next time I want a better computer, at which point I should be well out of school and have the cash to get it really nice.

Building a computer is really not cheaper than buying a manufactured unit. The cost item that puts it over is the OS -- unless you're happy with Linux. Still, it's an interesting project. I've built a couple.

I have a Systemax with an Intel Core2 Quad Processor -- that's the previous generation from the i3, i5, i7 series. There is 5TB of disk, two-23" screens, a Blu-ray burner, and nothing else interesting. Blu-ray is great for backing up images and videos, 25GB/disk and blank disks are $1 now. Two screens are so cheap these days that everyone with the desk space should have 'em. Or three screens if you have the space.

HAHA I'm just kidding I pulled that off the computer history page from a computer that was popular back around 1991 I think. I did have computers way worse than this 20 years ago though... My first computer was a 386 with perhaps a few megs of RAM and when I was about 14 I built a computer that had only 1 MB of RAM. It was part of a special program for kids to get them into computers, and the thing was mostly useless other than just playing around with DOS commands. I remember getting a 486 and the the Pentium came out and that was pretty pimp, I'm pretty sure that's what I used to use to go online and play Quake with. I grew up in the 80s when you needed floppy diskettes to boot up because the HD was so small. The funny thing was that computers were even more exciting then than they are now...

Well, I have several computers.

I don't honestly know the specs on all of them, but my Dos machine is something like 16Mb RAM, 100mhz, and it still has working floppies.

I have an old netbook 1ghz, 1gb RAM, integrated graphics(whatever that model was 5 years ago).

Going to get a i5-2400, some decent graphix, and 8gb RAM, with 100+GB SSD for OS's and 4TB HDD for storage.

I don't game, so I'll never really have an insane computer. Much better to live a few years behind and save a ton of money.

You have gained cool points with me. Not that your Phantasy Star avatar didn't put you over the edge already...

I game but I have a policy of never playing any games from this millenium. I frequent Quakelive.com, which is a variation of Q3 from 1999. Once in a while I pull out one of the Phantasy Stars or play NES/SNES or Genesis on my emulator.
