Is it possible to write new G code for old school CNC machines that came with a product key that you plugged into the "serial port" on the back of the computer? I have two CNC machines at work and was wondering if it is possible to rewrite all the G Code so I can get rid of the old computers. New computers are all usb inputs and make these machines obsolete. They still work but cant find a computer to replace the old ones. Also, is there issues with it being proprietary? The monitors on the control panels have also taken a dump. Those are like 6 thousand dollars a piece.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

If you think I will give up my rights and forsake social etiquette to make you "FEEL" better you are sadly mistaken

If liberal democrats would just stop shooting people gun violence would drop by 90%

UM, I think mabey this post is way outside of this domain. But just mabey there are some hardcore computer geeks hear that know what I am talking about.

If I remember correctly G-code is used much of the time for computer-aided engineering and its a computer numerical control programming language. You probably, with enough time and effort, could rewrite the entire program on a newer computer (with adaptations). But, it may be difficult. Honestly, I cannot say anything for sure.

You probably are a bit outside of most peoples expertise on this site...

The G code is for a specific job. You will still need some application to run the machine. If you have the software, but need a new computer, you can pick up a USB to RS232 converter for like $10.

Smartass.
Life is like radiation. A uniquely damaging event. Perhaps I will live another thirty years. Perhaps I will die tomorrow. But I have no regrets. I was sometimes forced to make difficult choices. But enough is enough. As Vladimir would say, you can only die once, make sure it is worth it.

He doesn't even know what G code is or what it is used for. Just ignore him and all other posts he makes about anything. He's just starving for your attention, that's why he makes smartass posts.

Good analysis.
