I didn't realize this was already a reality. How long do you think it will be before we can realistically have clones made of ourselves, and would there be a point when we can't yet transfer our consciousness into the new clones?

That's an interesting thought. Would that be how we'd live forever. Also would that transfer really be us in the clone and would we end up in a Brave New World type society?

Well, I believe it is one factor in a much larger effort at making immortality a reality. For instance, there is also a guy named Ray Kurzweil http://www.kurzweilai.net... who is working with Google on AI and the whole - uploading consciousness movement.

I think it'll be a mixture of those two efforts - cloning and uploading/downloading consciousness. What I see, would be the ability to upload our consciousness to a cloud-like server and then simply download our consciousness into our newly cloned bodies.

Also would that transfer really be us in the clone and would we end up in a Brave New World type society?

Idk, that's the big question. Would it be us? Hopefully. Although the possibility for viral corruption via computer viruses or something could potentially harm the cloud-like servers that would store our consciousness before re-downloading into a new body.

I'm still on the fence about it all, I don't know if I'd like being immortal. I believe we die for a reason, even as an agnostic.

I would love to live forever... or at least until the rapture. I'm still against cloning as it can lead to us being inbread and destroying are uniqueness and sense of personality. Hence the reason I said it might lead in a Brave New World society.

Oh okay, I can definitely see that becoming a possible fallout of such efforts. For me, living forever would be fun for a little while, but I don't see everyone being offered that change. I believe that if we do create the means for immortality, such means will most likely fall into the control of the ruling elite.

Once again that it a concept of the Brave New World as well. The Brave New World was ruled by the alpha class and from there it went down to deltas. Society would be designing in the labs who would rule and who would be the trash collectors of society.

Then why would you still be down for immortality? Is it more of just like you saying that personally you would enjoy immortality? If so, then that's my mistake. I thought that when you said you'd like to live forever that that was applied to everyone.

In personal terms, I'd enjoy living forever too but think that at some point I'd just get bored after exploring everything this world has to offer... but like you said, the brave new world type of society is highly likely and one that I don't think I could support (unless I was one of the ruling elite).

That's understandable. I've accepted that death is a part of life, and that I will die someday. But I am still wary of that unknowingness. It does bother me a little.

Everyone will die, to put it nicely. It's how is sometimes the major question. They say with this cloning they will cure diseases, but I believe much like the current insects that there will be a disease out there that will kill all of us since being cloned we will all be proned to that one disease.

Yeah, that is actually a legitimate fear that can be seen in the current potato dilemma. We used to have hundreds of different types of potatoes, but then we started using the most efficient type and now that is the main potato we have. The concern is that because we lack variety in our potatoes nowadays, that all it would take is one virus to wipe out that strain of potato and we'd be screwed. I learned about that issue while in a permaculture class a few semesters ago. It's pretty interesting and scary.

What's interesting about this is that strangely this topic follows another debate I'm involved in; a full dive video game, in other words a virtual reality. If what you are saying about transferring ones consciousness into a new body works the same as virtual reality. Then the two thoughts can be combined to make one project.
Long live Kirito!

I didn't realize this was already a reality. How long do you think it will be before we can realistically have clones made of ourselves, and would there be a point when we can't yet transfer our consciousness into the new clones?

What's interesting about this is that strangely this topic follows another debate I'm involved in; a full dive video game, in other words a virtual reality. If what you are saying about transferring ones consciousness into a new body works the same as virtual reality. Then the two thoughts can be combined to make one project.

Two things
1: YES IT IS!!!!!! Have you seen the latest episode?
2: Do you feel the same way about my idea that they could be combined to make one project?

Oh shoot, it came out didn't it?! I'm now logging onto Crunchyroll as I type this haha.

Well, a full-dive experience would definitely be transferring consciousness.

I suppose they could take that technology and apply it to transferring consciousness outside of the video games as well. It's reasonable to assume that if that technology existed in the video game realm that it would also be used in non-gaming industries as well like the medical field.

Do you have any ideas on how it could be developed?

Google is working on it. Check out these two articles:

I think it'll happen in our lifetime. Most likely it'll be our kids or grandkids who will be the generation with full-dive gaming.
