Do you think drones, in the future, will be used by Americans to dramatically increase the likelihood people like the President and other polarizing figures will be assassinated?
Beliefs in a nutshell:
- The Ends never justify the Means.
- Objectivity is secondary to subjectivity.
- The War on Drugs is the worst policy in the U.S.
- Most people worship technology as a religion.
- Computers will never become sentient.

Well it won't be a dramatic increase, but a drone is another weapon that can be used for this. If you have a drone that is fast enough, it might hit the white house before a missile takes it down.

ha its something ive wondered before.

3d Printers can print workable guns. Criminals are using drones to smuggle drugs and things into prisons.

who knows how creative they might get. Cant see much benefits though of doing it this way. You couldn't hold much ammunation because of weight and it'd be easier to see a drone above head coming from the distance rather than a person with a concealed weapon.

A lot of technology (money) and time put into a machine which will not inflict much damage to large group and would be hard to gain access to a specific "target".

Sure, but it'd extend to any person really, not just the President and polarizing figures. Drone warfare has grown exponentially under the Obama administration, and pending certain legal issues drones could very well be used domestically for postal/delivery, security, and film services. So I'd say sure, someone could weaponize a civilian drone and use it to cause harm to other people.

Now, in terms of the President specifically, I do think that dramatic increase of likelihood would sharply decrease after the first instance. It'd be the first assassination attempt of any kind on a major world leader. Regardless of the success of the attempt, it would instantly justify a new security budget for the secret service which would probably make electronic sensors capable of monitoring the immediate air space a necessary security measure.

I want to say there's already footage of a guy attaching a gun to a drone and showing it fire.

On topic, I don't see why they wouldn't use it for reasons like this. It would definitely be easier for the perp to escape amongst the confusion, especially if they can do it all from a smart phone.

I can see that the USFG would use it a great deal in the future, but it might also backfire on them. That's just the Technological advancements.

YUP! I've seen the video before as well, and totally agree that it'd be easier to get away with until security forces catch up with adequate defensive means.

Wow that reminds me of a film called Runaway with killer drones . And the reference from back in the early 80s many of them came true today. And steerable bullets .
