Movie critics, in neverending efforts to impress each other, have coalesced around films like Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Schindler's List, Casablanca, Gone With the Wind [yawn], etc. Unbound as I am by any worry about public or professional opinion, I submit to Debate.org the true Top 10 Films of All Time.
1. Robocop
2. Bloodsport
3. Rocky
4. Robocop 2
5. Predator
6. Terminator
7. The Godfather II
8. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
9. Jerry Maguire
10. The Breakfast Club
Note: Before anyone mentions it, let me say that it was a close call but, while certainly in the top fifteen, Heavyweights just didn't make the cut.

11/3/2011 10:06:21 AM Posted: 1 year ago There is little to no cinematic substance in any of the films on the aforementioned list with the exception of The Godfather II. A top list would be entirely subjective, though professionals tend to consider specific qualities pertinent to good film making.

11/3/2011 10:33:06 AM Posted: 1 year ago Really most mainstream movie critics arent very smart in their analysis or picky in their reviews. There are a few exceptions but if you open a random newspaper to a movie review what you will find is more a description of how entertaining the film was to the reviewer than any sort of critical look at a film.
I think we tend to miss a distinction between "good" art and "entertaining" art. Movies like Citizen Kane and Gone with the Wind are "good" because of the impact they had on the art of film and because there is a lot of content to the film. You can talk about those films forever because the creative teams involved spent a lot of time crafting almost every aspect of the film. You look at a director like Kubrick and there is pretty much nothing in his films that is not intentional and for a purpose. On the other hand you have a movie like Robocop, which is a very entertaining film. It is very enjoyable to watch but there really isnt much substance to it. Obviously this isnt a black/white distinction, its just something I think is useful to sort of loosen up the way people think about movies (e.g. 'how can you watch this trash?' or 'elitists just want to feel smart for not liking Transformers'). I sort of see the difference as comparable to a gourmet meal and a Snickers bar. One clearly offers a much richer experience than the other, but they both have their time and place. 11/10/2011 9:56:58 AM Posted: 1 year ago There doesn't seem to be much merit to the film you selected; you obviously dislike movies hampered by things like a plot or acting.
Of course, I'm hampered in my judgment by my own list of the greatest movies of all time, which starts with "12 Angry Men" and goes on from there. Tastes differ, it seems. Carthago delenda est. |

11/17/2011 3:14:03 PM Posted: 1 year ago Most of the movies on that list I have either never seen or just outright suck. Indiana Jones is good, but I wouldn't consider it one of the best movies ever made. So yea, as others have said this is very, very subjective. I consider Finding Nemo and Titanic to be in my top ten, but others probably think both those movies suck.

11/24/2011 5:37:21 PM Posted: 1 year ago I'm going to make a list, based on my own taste mixed with critical acclaim(using rotten tomatoes). This wouldn't be MY personal list, because that would have some dumb movies on it which I am a sucker for, but it's a list of movies I think everyone should see, in the order that I enjoyed them.
TV's "ABSOLUTE CLASSIC" TOP TEN 01) Evil Dead 2 02) The Terminator 03) Aliens 04) Nightmare on Elm St 05) Dawn of the Dead 06) Reservoir Dogs 07) Who Framed Roger Rabbit 08) Yojimbo 09) Let The Right One In 10) Toy Story My personal favourite movie of all time is From Dusk Till Dawn.
