Empathy's not the only thing you feel.. Nor does it have some special place on a pedestal to be Engaged in at the expense of other things. Live Freely, Genuinely, openly, spontaneously. Don't try to force yourself to conforming to some particular standard of how you ought to feel.. That's what you did when you were saying you convinced yourself to feel differently than you did/not cry. But in putting Empathy on a pedestal.. you might very well use That as the standard which you use to Mutilate yourself. If you're empathetic.. be empathetic. If you're X, be x. Accepting how you feel will always bring less struggle than combating how you feel... For your feelings flow forth from your nature... and your holding to some Unconnected/unnatural standard isn't going to change your Free-flowing feeling.. It's just going to put you at conflict with yourself. Don't think about it too much. Let it be what it is. |
