Now doubt the British people will be dancing in the streets this evening, celebrating the Conservative-led British Government's announcement to reduce the rate of tax for top earners by 5%. This means that tycoons, bankers and aristocrats will now be even richer than they were before.

For example if a stockbroker receives a £1,000,000 ($1,584,400) share of his bank's taxpayer-subsidised bonus pot, he will be £49,993 ($79,208) a year better off as result of this tax cut.

Of course, in these times of economic austerity, the Government must be prudent and any tax giveaways must be paid for. That's why the Conservatives have clobbered people on low and middle incomes by slashing their tax credits and child benefit payments, while already cash-strapped pensioners face a tax increase.

Thinking about, the only British people dancing in the street tonight will be millionaires who, no doubt, will be laughing like drains in the faces of less affluent people passing-by, those people who will now be forced to subsidise the lavish lifestyles of Britain's wealthiest people.

Mr Deputy Speaker, in the middle of this Parliament, in difficult economic times, this coalition Government has not settled for a "do nothing" Budget.
We have not ducked the difficult choices - we've taken them head on.
A competitive top rate of tax.
More revenues from those best able to pay.
Fewer reliefs.
A tax cut for working people.
Support for families.
Low income earners taken out of tax altogether.
Alongside it, one of the lowest rates of business tax in the world.
A simpler tax code.
And a country where its citizens know the tax they are paying - and what they are paying it for.
We have achieved all this - and kept to our deficit plan.
Let us be resolved.
No people will strive as the British will strive.
No country will adapt as the British will adapt.
No country will value those who work as we will value them.
Together, the British people will share in the effort and share the rewards.
This country borrowed its way into trouble.
Now we're going to earn our way out.

I commend this Budget to the House.

"any tax giveaways must be paid for." Fail

To balance the books, the tax cuts for the richest 1% must be paid for.

Either directly, by raising more tax elsewhere, such as from old age pensioners or;

Indirectly, by cutting spending on the essential services and welfare payments that the most disadvantaged members of society rely upon.

The Conservatives decided to do both: that's the kind of people they are. They hate the poor so much, they make the Tea Party in America look like the Swedish Socialist Party.

or just cut spending so the things the money was paying for needn't pay anything.
