So, I got my project list for my Woodwork finals exam, which I have several months to complete (And it counts towards 60% of my final mark, handy eh?), Anyone, here is the project I'm choosing:

"Design and make a free standing artefact to hold a small number of your favourite books. The artefact should be designed to display personal items that reflect your interest in music and also allow the titles of the book to be easily visible. The design should be elegant in proportion and be attractive to behold."

There were two others, but one was very vague and the other just seemed complicated.

So, thoughts?

Well, it sounds interesting. You could do a simple bookshelf with intricate carvings. Or you could go for a modern design.

You may make fun of Texas' education system, but we don't offer woodworking.

Depends what the criterion of marking is. If the sole purpose is to create a functional piece, then it should be relatively easy, you just conform to whatever aesthetic design you like. However if its graded on +difficulty +flourishes etc., then design care would be more warranted.

That said, books and CDs look good (to me at least) in diamond pattern holdings.

It's a system that throwsback to a more vocational training ethos, where it's recognised that not all who attend school are likely to pursue academic level jobs.

Why not?
"Let me tell you the truth. The truth is, 'what is'. And 'what should be' is a fantasy, a terrible terrible lie that someone gave to the people long ago. The 'what should be' never did exist, but people keep trying to live up to it. There is no 'what should be,' there is only what is."

I suppose nobody wants to take it. It's like Italian in that regard.

Hey! Vi takes Italian. I speak Italian. It's way sexier than Spanish (though Spanish is more practical lol).
