Tonight I just went and experienced my first live performance, a monologue called 'Trudeau Stories,' starring actress Brooke Johnson, whom I had the pleasure to meet beforehand.

Now, I will admit that before, I never thought live performances would be good, especially not plays. Music concerts, yes, but not plays, operas, and etc.

But I found it to be really, really fun when I actually had the pleasure to see one. It felt very cool, very authentic, and unlike when I watch movies sometimes, it really gave me time to think about the story being presented, and how I felt about it.

Has anyone else here been to live performances, or at least thought about it? This can range from monologues, to operas, to concerts, to comedy routines - anything. What was your experience?

None that I ever took part in, or watched.

Yeah I've been to a live play called 38 Shades of Brown or some such, and to a musical opera-type thing of Sweeney Todd. I had to go to both for Drama class, and I was quite young at the time and thought they were "gay", but I reckon now I would give them a bit more respect and would probably enjoy them more.

I've been to quite a few standup comedy shows, and plenty of concerts. Frankly I love nothing more, but the town I live in very rarely gets any good performers. :(

Live performances are absolutely enchanting, and it's good that you've finally gone out to one. I've been to my fair share of them, including plays, concerts, operas, and a few comedy routines.

Honestly, the first is almost always one of the best, simply due to the memorability of the occasion. I definitely encourage you to expand your horizons that way, and attend as many performances as you can. Witnessing the passion of the performers firsthand is a very moving feeling, as you can see, hear, and feel more at a live performance than you can through a radio, or a television screen, something that I'm sure you've probably noticed.

One thing that I like to do for some plays is to see if there is a corresponding movie or book, and watch/read it first; after I've watched the movie/read the book, I go to watch the play, and it's interesting to note all the similarities and differences, and to keep track of all the omissions, deviations, and the like. Try it if you get the chance.

And, truthfully, I'm surprised that you've never been out to one before. But, I'm glad that it's been remedied.

I've been to a whole bunch of concerts. Aside from that, I lived in NYC so I've seen a bunch of things on broadway as well (mostly musicals). I did also see The Vagina Monologues (at a few different venues, actually). Oh and I saw Stomp! Haha are you guys too young to remember that, or...?

Speaking of theatre/musicals, anyone been to seen Avenue Q?

http://en.wikipedia.org...

I really wanna go watch that show. I went to see NOFX play in Brisbane a few weeks ago and they ended their gig (they're a punk band mind you...) with a stageshow performance of "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist", which, it turns out, is a song from Avenue Q.

I own the soundtrack to Avenue Q, and I've seen mock performances of it... which has been the only thing standing in the way of me spending so much money to actually see it on Broadway, though I probably should for the full experience.
