2012 Mafia Leader Board

Okay so I spent most of the morning creating a leader board just for the fun of it.
Let me start out with some disclaimers.

1. This list only includes games made in 2012. The full list of games this year, can be found here: http://www.debate.org...

If you find that a game was not included, please let me know. I included ALL games even concept games (Except for freedo's). If you notice a game that was not included, please inform me (Though they should all be on their, as I scrolled through like 30+ pages, and google searched the ones I couldn't find.

2. This list may not be completely accurate. Most of it is, but some of the games like Kyro's, Ober's, vipers, and zaradi's, were really hard to find all the winners of, given that they didn't have end games. Others were really hard to find because the mod's of the games weren't that structured in their end game thread, causing me to have to do a butt load of research *Glares angrily at royalpaladin*.

So PLEASE feel free to update the list if you find that I messed up on yours.

3. I included all team wins, not surviving wins. If your team won, and you died, you still counted as a "win" on this leader board.

4. Replacements wins were given to the player who was last replaced on the winning team. For example, if player1 had a role that was on the winning team, he wouldn't get the win, if he was replaced by player 2.

5. This list in NO way determines "Who is the best mafia players". In fact some of the better mafia players were nearer to the bottom. The higher you are on the list, is probably best determined by how many games that player has been in rather than how good they actually were. Most of the time, some of the players with higher numbers only won because of luck, or because of their team. So if you don't have too high of a number, PLEASE don't take offence, because if I were to go into stats of who best used their roles, had the least mis-lynches, and all the other stats that go into effect in a mafia game, the list would look a lot different. Also keep in mind that this list only takes into account 2012 games. I am not going into all the stuff because it would simply take forever. This was the simplest way to rank players based on how many wins they have so far.

It's not fair! I remember in Final Fantasy 7 I literally set the town up to lose. I can't even lead mislynches anymore without looking suspicious :(

In your defense, you really had me sold on you being town in the Golden Garden game. Luckily though, I realized that Blue and Danielle were right, before the game ended. I defended you pretty hard up until then.

I think this would be more accurate if win percentages were used rather than the total number of wins. With total number of wins, it becomes like the DDO leaderboard where the top members may not always be the best (although sometimes they are). Do you know how many games each player played?

That might take a while, but in the link provided above all the games are listed. You could go and try to figure that stuff out if ya want. That one I made took me like 5 hours lol

While it's no big deal to keep track of recorded wins and losses, I don't think it's fair to call it a "leader board" which implies that people with more wins are better players. Likewise, the DDO leader board wrongfully implies that people with more wins are better debaters. This is flawed because the number of wins you have are largely determined by the number of debates you engage in. Similarly, if you only play in 2 games it would be impossible for you to be "ranked" as high as someone who plays in 22.

Also, I've pointed out many times that whether or not your team wins or loses has absolutely no bearing on your individual skill or ability. For one thing, some players are killed first more often than others. I believe TUF pointed out that he was among the people killed on NP1 most often (recently). As such, why should "wins" be credited to him when he was hardly ever in the game in the first place? He just so happened to be placed on the winning team even if he didn't contribute much to actual game play. Now this is not to single him out specifically, but to point out that luck has a big factor in # of wins vs. losses - it's whatever team you're placed on, and sometimes mod influence or game structure in general impacts which team wins.

For another, some people could be really good at figuring out mafia, but what if their teammates don't listen? What if some people are awesome at being mafia and fooling people, but tend to get picked out early (due to being early investigation targets and whatnot, such as tvellalott?). I've said before that the community seems to know which players are good and which are bad; there isn't a legit way to rank them IMO.

But I will say this: Mafia used to be dominated by a few good players and there were players who were blatantly bad, but these days, I'd classify almost EVERY regular as "good" and there aren't as many "omfg you suck" players such as in the past (Zetsubou - worst mafia player ever). This definitely has had a positive impact on games and made them a lot more fun. I don't think there is anyone who needs to be specifically singled out because almost all players are good these days.

tldr: Stats are really fun and interesting despite not being a good indication of skill.

I completely agree with you danielle. All this was said in number five of the disclaimer. In short this board is based on quantity not quality. If someone wants to take the time to add all the other stats in, that would be awesome! I simply made this the easiest way possible, which was to count each persons wins. I did 2012 ones only also out of laziness, so again people like Danielle really have a lot more wins than that.

Also, it's pretty hard in general to rank on quality. For example cirrk, is like one of the best debaters there is on the site, but is far from being in the top 10 mainly because of his lack of having millions of debates. It's almost impossible to say who is the best debater, though the ones with the most wins are generally looked at with the most respect because they pull them in with such high volume. Same with mafia, same with royal, etc.

Here's the full list of all the games right here. You can go through and find the ones you remember playing, and count how many wins you have. Just copy and paste the list and put the calculated percentage by it. It will be easier and better if people post those statistics by their wins, that way it saves me a butt load of time, and only the people who care about that stuff, will be represented on the list.

It's pretty easy actually.

First find how many games you were in on that list.

I was in 31 of the games, and won 14 of them.

14/31 = 45.16%

My win ratio is only 45.16%.

I would go through and do this for everyone, but that would take forever, so I figured it would be easier if I just let everyone else add their own percentages, if they cared enough to. Takes less than 2 minutes to do it.

Does being the last (and only) survivor count as a win if there was no endgame?
