Would Jeremy's philosophy sow the seeds for the destruction of Western civilization?

It already has. The question is will that seed develop to it's full potential? My guess is that the next few generations will find out.

I don't think so really. To me that's a natural way of looking at things and tricking people into not treating you as an enemy. And people over time seem to be thinking of more reasons, logical and feely wise for us to work together.

I think you could argue that type if thinking is the reason we have had such a long history of war and lack of togetherness as a human race.

Our human civilizations keep failing because our individual desires keep overriding our collective well-being. We've gotten away with this so far because the Earth has contained some number of individual human civilizations at any one time, such that the failure of one was not the failure of all. But we are soon reaching the point where human civilization is becoming global, and so is our effect on each other. And if that global civilization fails, as all the others have, before, the effect will be catastrophic, and quite possibly unrecoverable.

Yet even knowing this, I see little evidence that we have, are, or will change.

If global human civilization collapses, and some humans survive it, then there may be the possibility that we would finally have learned our 'lesson', and would change, accordingly. But to be honest, even then, I doubt that we would.

Nice.

Maybe it does sow the seeds for the destruction of Western civilization, but if we just need to find another group to declare the enemy that we can unite against. The two most likely candidates to me seem to be aliens, or the Earth trying to kill us.
