Why isn't this technology becoming popular?

I always imagined that if we had proper projecting abilities, we could do away with all the display screens, especially on phones and laptops. We can do away with keyboards and stuff as well.

All we would need is a small device, since we no longer need physical display screens.

For one, I can't imagine it working that well with computers or phones.

Keyboards work because you can feel where you're fingers are placed; using a projection for a keyboard would take that away. Phones require a screen, microphone and speaker; with just a projector, you would actually need at least two separate devices, one with the projector and one with the mic and speaker.
