How to speed up your computer

Step 1: Use a maintenence program
I recommend running a few maintenence programs once in a while. The combination I use is Advanced SystemCare Free and Kingsoft PC Doctor. After you install ASC, go to options and disable it from starting when Windows starts. That part is unnecessary.

Step 2: Update Drivers
It is hard to manually update drivers, so use DriverMax: www.drivermax.com

Step 3: Startup Delayer
This is CRUCIAL to your computer's speed! Download Startup Delayer here: http://www.r2.com.au...
Open it and look at the list of startup items. Search them each on Google. Disable the unnecessary ones and delay the ones that are not too important, but would be nice to have. Go ahead and disable all startup programs that have anything to do with an "Updater". They just slow down the startup and are unnecessary.

Step 4: Defragment the Registry and Hard Drive
Included in Advanced SystemCare.

Step 5: Uninstall programs
Windows Vista and 7: Go to start, control panel, uninstall a program. Go through each and every one of your programs and uninstall the ones you don't use. If your not sure, search it on Google.

The program CCleaner is one of the best for getting rid of junk files. I'd recommend it straight away, and it's free.

I would never be a Mac user (deliberately) but I think it's better than Windows. Once you find the browser and terminal (which takes me about 2 minutes) I'm pretty happy.

I would never be a Mac user (deliberately) but I think it's better than Windows. Once you find the browser and terminal (which takes me about 2 minutes) I'm pretty happy.

A Mac is better for video editing, pictures, digital imaging, etc. A PC is better generally for gaming.

False. You can do that with PC too.

The software maintenance suggestions are all good, but let's not overlook the obvious. The way to increase the speed of your computer is add main memory. PCs with Win 7 can go way beyond the old 3 GB limit, although I had to use a Win 7 "pro" version, or some such, to get to 32 GB. I really works wonders, especially with programs like Photoshop. Memory is pretty cheap these days, and software is expensive.

If you are using Adobe products, they run the same on Windows and Mac, so I don't see an advantage there.
