In numerous war documentaries and war recreations, the main generals plan their strategic attacks on top of a table which uses pieces representing battalions, armies, air strikes, etc.. (NOTE: this is referring to World War II and prior) What is the name of this war strategy table, and can you provide me with a link to a picture that shows one?

It would probably look something like this: http://yesterday.sg...

And it is normally called...a military strategy table :P nothing fancy. This one was used by the British in Singapore before they got overrun by the Japanese.

I saw something recently about how aircraft carriers still use little cut out planes and thumb tacks on a table to keep track of which planes are where on the flight deck.
