Is morality a tool for suppressing instinct?

Morality has always had the same kind of meaning over the past 1000 years, but with degrees of altered definitions which meets a reason for using the word. The French used it first, as part of their army, for example. Instinct has been around for much longer, and is the strongest unconscious motive any animal can have. Most debating is based on the presumption that both parties should use logic. I happen to believe that humans are so imperfect in every respect, that even our logical thinking, including the rule on non-contradiction, is flawed.
