Abortion is Morally Justified

TheSkeptic

I affirm the resolution: termination of the fetus is morally justified. I will go through a few definitions and a few simple opening arguments. [Definition - Abortion] http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=2091 In medicine, an abortion is the premature exit of the products of conception (the fetus, fetal membranes, and placenta) from the uterus. ===== Argument - Fetus is not a Person ===== By definition, murder is the intentional (first degree and second degree)...

One should be an Atheist Rather Than an Agnostic.

TheSkeptic

I affirm the resolution: atheism is the more logical and supported position than agnosticism. If one had to either be an agnostic or an atheist, than given the current evidence and amount of scientific and philosophical progress, one should choose atheism. [Definition - Atheism] http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/atheism 2 a: a disbelief in the existence of deity [Definition - Agnostic] http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/agnostic 1: a person who holds the view that an...

RESOLVED: Women are inherently inferior to man

funnybrad333

Hey. The first 2 rounds will be for us to acquaint with each other, and the last 3 will be for actual debate. For now I pose no topicalities; you may offer some to me. And I hope we have a fun debate, so I don't mean everything I say =P...

Soda Drinking In Schools

crackofdawn

I am for soda's to be allowed in school. Some might argue that some kids can't help themselves when it comes to sweet treats. I however believe that it's up to the parents to determine whether or not a child drinks soda. If it's not allowed then don't give your child money for school. If he has to pay his own money to get a soda they'll not only appreciate the value of money but also be less likely to splurge themselves. It's not fair that just because a select few can't control themselv...

Children should not be indoctrinated to believe that one particular religion is superior.

bfitz1307
numa

numa I saw that you began a debate against another individual on this topic, but they were unable to complete the debate. I find the topic interesting so I'll give you another opportunity to present your case. My first argument will be a combination of my own points, and refuting the point you made in the other debate this I disagree with. First I would like to define two of the words in my title for this debate so we're on the same page, so to speak. Indoctrinate, as defined by Merriam...

Parents shouldn't indoctrinate their children to believe that one particular religion is superior.

bfitz1307

First I would like to define two of the words in my title for this debate so we're on the same page, so to speak. Indoctrinate, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is to instruct especially in fundamentals or rudiments. Superior is defined as something, or someone of higher rank, quality, or importance. Now with those two terms defined I would like to address why such indoctrination is wrong. All religions have in one form or another; a set of rituals, or beliefs, that must be performed, or held i...

Men should be allowed into lesbian bars.

brian_eggleston

I have a number of lesbian friends and I would like to have more, so some of my mates and I went to the Candy Bar in Soho, which is a lesbian bar. http://www.thecandybar.co.uk/ However, we were refused entry on the grounds that we were men, even though I explained that our intentions were entirely honourable and we would be in now way offended by the sight of women engaging in sexual activity with one another. I believe that the refusal of the bar's management to grant admittance to men...

An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". Gandhi quote. The father of non- violent resistance in the modern age, Mahatma Gandhi led a peaceful revolt that won India's independence from British colonial rule. His message of non-violent resistance is as timely today as it was 50 years ago. When someone commits a heinous crime, such as murder, he or she is usually sentenced to death. This is known as capital punishment or the death penalty. The death penalty has always been a very controversi...

R: It is morally permissible to kill one innocent person to saves the lives of more innocent people.

CiRrO

As most people know, I have done this topic previously, but I was Aff., now I will be Neg. I would appreciate it if the person was familiar with LD style, however if you are tempted to debate this and you are not an LD debater, that's fine, but prepare to suffer technical consequences as the round advances. That is a warning. Anyway, good luck however accepts. Since this is LD, the Affirmative usually starts, so I will let him/her go first, I will simply state definitions. Thank you la...

the christian portrayal of god is hypocritical.

numa
AEQUITAS

christian teaching is that god is responsible for all life here on earth. physically, it takes a man and a woman (or a sperm and an egg, to be more PC) to create a child. however, without god's influence, that life will never come to be. that is the christian belief. christians also believe that god is omnipotent, that he sees and knows all, and this is supported numerous times throughout the bible. for instance, philippians 4:3 and revelation 3:5 say that the moment you place your faith in j...
