Religion should not be imposed on children, to allow them to choose for themselves

Nik
numa

I am not saying religion should be banned!!, but that children should not be indoctrinated from a young age to believe and accept the religion their parents choose them to. Surely it is in everyones interest that we give our children the right to choose their beliefs for themselves?...

Zerosmelt
numa

As of right now these are the only stats that this website offers: "Debate.org Stats Days Online: 293 Members Online: 4 Total Members: 5,599 New Members: 49 Total Debates: 4,070 New Debates: 30 Challenge Period: 1 Debating Period: 64 Voting Period: 4,005" I am arguing that it would useful for the users of the website if an entire Stats page with detailed Stats were to be created. a page containing details such as: - total number of members adhering to a given faith...

Military conscription is unjust.

Danielle

I. INTRODUCTION I affirm the resolution 'Military conscription is unjust.' My definition of military conscription for this debate reads: a general term for involuntary labor demanded by some established authority. It is most often used in the specific sense of government policies that require citizens (often just males) to serve in the armed forces. It is known by various names — for example, the most recent conscription program in the United States was known colloquially as 'the draft' (Wiki...

catholic principles: democrat or republican?

numa
bthr004

** introduction/disclaimer ** if the catholic church absolutely had to side with a political party (democrat or republican), which one do you think it should choose, not based on scripture, but based on the religion's VALUES? i acknowledge that you can't have one without the other. the holy bible is where we read, learn and how we pass on catholic beliefs. however for the purpose of this debate, i ask that my opponent (who will argue on behalf of republicans, even if he/she is not republican)...

Obese customers should pay more for flights.

simplex
Danielle

With the rising price of gas and the growing costs of airfare, some airlines are starting to opt in programs that charge fees for passengers who are visibly over a certain weight. The reason for this is simple: 1) Obese customers cost more to insure. Those who are obese are more prone to high-altitudes medical situations, thus airline insurance for such scenarios go up. Since they currently don't charge insurance based on individual fliers, it seems unfair to charge everyone for the lifest...

Those who oppose the Death Penalty should also appose abortion on demand.

SoutherngentFL

I often hear people denunciate the practice of capital punishment because it's inhmane. Although I disagree, I understand the perspective. What puzzles me is the large percentage of those whom I discuss the issue are, in fact; pro-choice. Some become reticent when I include partial birth abortion, but still support the practice for reasons other than the mothers' life being endangered. I find that to be a conundrum. . ....

A Debate With Logical-Master

PoeJoe

My last three finished debates have been with forfeiters. Needless to say, I've become bored. Thus, I've decided to challenge a skill far greater than my own. Logical-Master, choose ANY topic that we disagree on and make an opening statement supporting your position. This will be a three round debate that I'm sure I will have to fight hard to win. However, through this process, Logical-Master will have both the first and last say. Because of this, I will ask Logical-Master to write something...
