The only way to defeat ISIS is to destroy them on the ground. Doing so will require the United States to send ground troops to battle the terrorist organization. After two years of bombing targets in Iraq and Syria, the United States does not have a lot to show for it. Therefore, ground troops must be part of the equation when implementing a military solution to defeat ISIS.
Yes, I believe that we need ground troops to battle against ISIS because the air bombing campaigns don't seem to be stunting their growth and expansions. I think the United States should strive to establish a coalition of different nations and not just the United States to fight ISIS on their territory.
We do not need to send in ground troops to battle ISIS. The group has been losing territory with the U.S. providing air support and others, such as Iraq, contributing ground troops. Ultimately, the United States does not have the manpower or money to send in ground troops to fight terrorists globally.
ISIS is a different kind of enemy. It knows no borders. It has a loose and mostly non-hierarchical structure. You can't battle an idea with troops on the ground. What we need to do is battle ISIS in the war of ideas. Find ways to take their servers down. Find ways to send different and more hopeful messages. This is the only way to win against such a nebulous enemy.
