Society assigns too much importance to animals. Humans were meant to rule over the beast of the Earth. Therefore, it does not make sense to treat animals as equals to humans. Of course, animals should not be mistreated either. It was, however, ridiculous that a goat could reach the rank of lance corporal in the British army. In short, yes, too much importance is assigned to animals now.
What on earth were they thinking? Why would you expect a goat to behave in a manner that is contrary to being a goat? Guess what...surprise, the goat behaved like a goat. Did they think they were punishing the goat by demoting it? It's just a bunch of nonsense. Sometimes people can make you ashamed to be human, with the irrational things they do.
Yes, too much importance is being assigned to animals when a goat reaches teh rank of lance corporal in the British Army. The goat should not be in the army at all. The goat cannot make decisions that would allow him to reach the position of lance corporal. The goat should be kicked out of the army because he is a goat.
Since the vast majority of animals are incapable of understanding human rules and morality and cannot be communicated with, it is ridiculous to attempt to hold them to the same standards of behavior to which we hold humans, and then punish them when they break those rules. A goat cannot understand what it means to be a lance corporal, much less understand what kind of behavior is expected of it as a result of earning that title. Animals deserve kindness and respect, not personification.
