Abolition of nuclear weapons: Is abolishing nuclear weapons consistent with international law?

  • International law demands it

Arms control treaties and international laws in regards to nuclear weapons have tried numerous times to completely abolish nuclear weapons. Many laws on the books were written originally with the intent to get rid of nuclear weapons, but one thing or another occurred which prevented their mandate from being carried out.

  • Abolition of nuclear weapons would be consistent with international law.

The abolition of nuclear weapons would be consistent with international law. There is already a precedent in the international prohibition of chemical and biological weapons. If enough nations came together and decided to sign a similar treaty banning nuclear weapons, then their abolition too would be condoned by international law.
