Alabama Dorm on Lock-Down After Gun Threat: Should we allow open and concealed carry on college campuses?

  • 2nd amendment doesn't specify location

The 2nd amendment says we all have the right to bear arms. It does not say we only have the right to keep guns locked up at home. 'To bear arms' can be basically defined as 'to carry arms'. The constitution does not place a limit on where one is allowed to 'bear arms' it simply provides all citizens with the right to do so regardless of location.

  • Yes of course!!

Yes of course we should allow concealed carry on college campuses. If a psychopath intends to take a gun into a college and shoot people, a a "No guns on campus" rule is not going to stop him. These rules are just ridiculous. Citizens with guns are going to stop an attack far more quickly than the police. By the time law enforcement has arrived at the seen of a shooting, the criminal could have killed dozens if nobody has a gun to protect themselves. Furthermore, college rules should not usurp our constitutional rights. This is just plain ridiculous.

  • Guns will repell criminals.

If criminals find out a whole campus has firearms then i think they won't try to try anything funny because no matter how good a gun they have 30 - 40 people fireing at a small group of assailents won't go over well for them. And do you know how many students are in a small school/university? 600? 700? 800 up? That is enough armed people to probably to overthrow our own government.

  • Yes, of course..

There were two college students in North Carolina that foiled a Virginia Tech type style shooting by retrieving their guns from their vehicle and stopping an assailant and holding him until police arrived on the scene. At a school in Arkansas, an assistant principal stopped a shooter and apprehended him as well. People have a constitutional right and an obligation to defend themselves, and while I don't have the details on this particular story it is a possibility that some student was just trying to dodge an exam or something.

  • It is a right.

Well, the only thing that stops a good guy with a gun is a bad guy with a gun. Gun-carrying students will make campuses much safer. Self-defense is definitely a right, and should not be banned. Campuses should not be gun- free zones in order to protect students and staff.

  • Yes, carrying a weapon is a right, whether open or concealed.

The gun does not commit the crime. The person commits the crime. If you prohibit gun use based on the actions of a few, then many innocent people will suffer. Murders will always happen so long as the desire to kill others without justification is continued. The crimes will continue regardless of the use of firearms.

  • protect yourself in crazy times

i think we should allows guns on college campus if you look at all of theese situations if someone would have had a weapon to protect themselves, they could have prevented something tragic from happening,. also if a criminals knows that someone has a gun they are less likely to do anything to that person to begin with

  • Only certified people

When it comes to the safety of not only others, but young people at any type of school, I do feel there should be CERTIFIED law enforcement officers that are on-duty at all times carrying concealed weapons. There have been a number of school shootings in our country and we do not need any more.

  • Guns in schools

No I do not think that guns should be allowed in schools my the students and teachers. The only guns that should be their should be by the security staff. Guns are dangerous in the hands of dangerous people. I am pro guns but not in schools. They should be separated.
