More people seem to be having children they can't support or just don't want. That isn't anything new though, so the statistics don't surprise me. That is one of the reasons that I look forward to male birth control pills. Not to say that men are solely responsible for contraception but an alternative to condoms will be a boon to many.
The economy is doing better now than it was four years ago, so there really is no real reason for concern about any rising statistics. Tax revenues are up, so the money the government can spend on services is also up, at least until these parents of these kids can find jobs.
Child welfare statistics in the USA are better than they were 4 years ago. The reason for this is because more people got jobs, and more people have access to health care now. Combine the two and, ultimately, along with an improved economy, you have improved conditions in child welfare.
No, child welfare statistics in the United States are more alarming than they were four years ago, because they are the same problems. There are always parents that do not do their jobs. There are always parents who do not know how to treat their children appropriately. This has not changed over the years.
