  • I do not believe that disposable diapers are any worse for the environment than most synthetic materials that are still recyclable, because they are biodegradable.

I would not call disposable diapers bad, per se, because the majority of them are still recyclable, and the material inside is biodegradable. So, they do not contribute to waste or pollution any more than any other trash that is not recycled.

  • Disposable diapers degrade eventually, and cloth diapers require water that we can't spare today.

Disposable diapers free up mothers and fathers from the nasty work of separating soiled material from the diaper, washing the diapers in separate laundry loads, and then drying them. This wastes water, an increasingly scarce resource. It wastes human time, mandating extra work for mothers. Disposable diapers eventually degrade in landfills. Wasting time, water and detergents on washing cloth diapers and their covers is a greater waste.

  • No they are not bad

They might take longer but at this time water is of short supply and we need as much water as we can get and reusable nappies need water to be washed and we cannot afford the amount of water it takes to contain a simple amount of nappy washing. It may take a long time to decompose but in the long run it will be better and we will not run out of water.

  • Not all disposable diapers are bad for the environment in today's day and age, because a lot of them are made from eco-friendly materials.

There are many companies that now make disposable diapers from much more eco-friendly materials. The diapers your mother and grandmother used are no longer the same type you and I would use. Granted, cloth diapers would still be the most friendly way to go. But, there are other choices around now that are more convenient and very much acceptable.

  • Disposable diapers are not bad for the environment if processed correctly, because the alternative is very wasteful.

The alternative to disposable diapers are reusable diapers. These have to be washed and processed, which takes water, electricity, soap, and the packaging of the soap, and other processing requirements. Take the environmental impact of this, and compare it with a one-time use diaper, and one will find that the impacts do not vary much. The best solution is disposable diapers that are "bio-friendly". These are already on the market.
