Are helicopter parents a bad influence on students?

  • Yes they are bad!

If kids don't learn how to make there decision on there own then there not going to succeed in life. They won't be able to learn how to be independent if someone else is going to make decisions for them there entire life. In my opinion its just stupid for parents to control there life.

  • Yes, parents need to allow their children to make mistakes.

Parents who constantly hover over their children, making sure they don't get into trouble, make mistakes, etc. are inhibiting their children's growth potential. If a child always thinks his parent is going to be there to catch and correct his failures, he'll never learn.

That being said, parents shouldn't give their children free reign either. It's a tough balance that takes some trial and error to perfect.

  • Yes, children need to learn to function on their own to be successful.

Parents who constantly hover, and don't allow their children any freedom do them a huge disservice. Children need to learn to do things for themselves, a little bit at a time, in a safe environment. If children are not permitted small freedoms and some independence as they grow up, they will become adults who can not do anything for themselves.
