I believe the 5-6' display size market is extremely over-rated. Smartphone(4-5') and tablet (7-10') market works very well. So it may seems right to develp an intermediate market. But the convenience of a larger display bring a massive flaw: you can't use it as a phone (singlehanded) and it looks ridiculuosly big. The drawback can only be adressed by using a stylus. Galaxy Note (1,2&3) amazed averybody by selling this product. But many people and manufacturers get the message wrong. It isn't the size that is selling, but the concept of a device that can extend the definition of a smartphone, and gives some unique capabilities. The feature rich Galaxy Note now makes sense and the market for this kind of (in a way) enhanced devices has boomed.

The problem is that so many devices are now appearing that just don't make sense. The only selling point is the screen size. But this in NOT enough. As I said before, stylus devices and specially tailored features that make use of it is the key to make it a succes. Otherwise you only get the fustration of a half-baked tablet and an inconveniently-sized smartphone.

In conclusion, the market doesn't need any more brainless phablets as those we see rise these days. Hopefully this is a transition period and the manufacturers as well as the customers will stabilize and wake up. And the candle will burn out.

PS. The market shift is overlooking a more convenient and user friendly size: mid and high-end 4-4.5' devices. This is the go-back revolution that we need!
