I see some people arguing that since Republicans supported abolition they are less racist. But keep in mind:
    1. The parties values switched over time, Abraham Lincoln was in favor of big gov't
    2. Lincoln freed the slaves in order to get more votes, he didn't think of them as equals
    3. It was over 100 yrs ago
What about Immigration reform? Republicans oppose that because they don't Mexicans coming in and stealing jobs and creating more crime. Sounds racist to me.
Remember how Republicans claimed Obama was Muslim and shouldn't be President? Why shouldn't a Muslim be President? Racist.
Out of the 43 black members of congress ONE is a Republican

  • Absolutely, much more racist.

The Tea Party and Libertarian Movements show the Right-Wing hate. Many Republicans use the defense of their support of Blacks to make the Democratic Party seem racist. However, the Democratic Party was actually much more Conservative than the Republicans during the 50s. However, they began to support equality during the early 60s, leaving the more Bigoted Conservatives alienated. These Conservatives joined the Republican Party after the Southern Strategy was implemented during Nixon and Reagan's presidency. That leaves the current policy of more Conservatives in the Republican Party and more Liberals in the Democratic Party. Many of the current policies reflect the racism the Right harbors. Immigration reform is something Conservatives should support because of their belief in free movement, and the benefits they can bring to the economy. However, House Representatives are stubbornly not even putting it up for a vote. Their repealing of part of the Voting Rights Act, in which Southern States implemented Gerrymandered maps and Voter ID, disenfranchising minorities. It can also be shown in many of the members' support for racial profiling while opposing Affirmative Action. They claim we should be "colorblind" in our Education system, but not in our Justice System. Seems like they only support special treatment for blacks and Hispanics when it hurts them, not when it helps. You can also see the racist signs portraying Obama as a monkey in the Tea Party movements and how they have harassed black Democrats when they left Congress. Many other things such as Elimination of the Minimum wage, Welfare, Food Stamps, refusing to increase educational funding, and refusing better and cheaper healthcare are some of the evidence that shows the Republican Racism.

  • Republicans are more racist

JUST LOOK AT THE POLICIES, LAWS AND ISSUES THEY SUPPORT. The GOP IS AGAINST THE CURRENT IMMIGRATION LAW, THE CONSERVATIVE SUPREME COURT STRUCK DOWN THE VOTING RIGHTS ACTS PART 5, THE GOP SUPPORTS VOTER SUPPRESSION, THE GOP IS AGAINST AFFIRMATIVE ACTION AND THE GOP IS ATTACKING OUR FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT IN A CONCERTED EFFORT TO RUIN HIS LEGACY IN UNPRECEDENTED NUMBERS.

  • Not a generalization, but the majority of racists are republican

OK, as current proof of my point, http://img3.allvoices.com/thumbs/image/609/480/95031869-vote-romney.jpg

Sorry for the long link, but it completely proves my point. (It is a picture of a Romney/Ryan supporter wearing a shirt saying 'put the white back in the white house') RACIST!
Also, it is not uncommon for people to hold up highly offensive posters at rallies, speeches etc. For example, one said 'Impeach the half-breed Muslim' . Tell me again that that isn't racist.
I also want to make the point that NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS! PEOPLE SHOULDN"T CARE IF THEIR PRESIDENT IS MUSLIM ANYWAYS!!!!!!!!! I actually know many Muslims and they are awesome and some of the nicest people on earth (literally). Just because some Muslims screwed up doesn't mean that every Muslim is the same way.

Don't pull the argument about slavery, the parties have morphed and current examples are better.

  • The murky history of the Republican Party

I have several examples of Republican racism.Their beliefs on immigration are shockingly bigoted they think that all Latin American immigrants should be forced back to the crime ridden poverty infested nations they where trying to escape in the name of freedom and yet defend the pilgrims European immigrants such as the Jamestown colony who where unlike the Latin immigrants because they where cannibals who ate a young girl. Also their idea on Muslims is racist believing that we should immediately check middle eastern passengers at an airport for possible terrorism basically supporting racial profiling and saying a large majority of middle eastern people are terrorist. As well they are well known for extensive homophobia such republican political leaders as Michelle Bachman Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh saying homosexuality is a abomination and that gays will burn in hell.Forcing gays to not marry is also a sign of bigotry.Even Rich Santorum saying he doesn't want to make black people's lives better by giving them food stamps. Not to mention the fact The Republican party and Fox news defending Confederate History Month saying it is apart of our history and it is okay to throw a party where black people dress as slaves. The further back in history you go the more Prevalent their racism becomes. The john Birch society a conservative political party who believed in pro segregation and the blacks should not have the same rights as whites was funded by Fred Koch the father of Republican billionaires and political backers Charles and David Koch who have been trying to re segregate American schools for years now forming neighborhood schools a slang term for segregated schools in the Jim crow era.Prescott Bush George W. Bush was known for financing the Nazi party and was apart of a plot to overthrow then president Franklin Delano Roosevelt.President Richard M. They would then evolve into the Republican party need i say more

  • Yes, Republicans are Racists.

Their policies and programs result in cutting benefits for blacks and increasing benefits for whites - since due to discrimination blacks have a higher proportion getting assistance, and represent a smaller proportion of defense contractors.

Their policies against Affirmative Action directly impact blacks, yet the Republicans have no policy against ending discrimination against blacks.

You will never see Sarah Palin give a speech on the struggle of black Americans. You will never see a Tea Party representative give a speech about racial segregation in our society.

The Tea Party Republicans think blacks have on average lower income and status in society not because of racism but because blacks 'choose' these lifestyles. Thus, their explanation of differences in racial incomes is based on race itself. By definition, most are in fact racist

  • Republicans are racist and not shy to lie about it.

Today's republicans are not Abraham Lincoln alike. The neo-cons are all racist, like Donald Trump, Jan Brewer, Donald Sterling, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, Bob McDonnell... The name list just can go too long. Of course, not all republican are racists but their party has a racist culture and their public racist comments and behaviors are just too common and normal. If you talk about the history of two party, the republican party might not be that racist, but today's republican are way more racist than any party out there. I'm neither a conservative nor liberal, that I'm independent. But I support democrat party because this party is not racist and try to direct the country's culture to diversity and multiculturalism. It is just too late for those racist cons try to change the nation back to a white country, if you take into the consideration that there are almost 30% of people are minorities.

  • Republicans are racist and they dislike diversity.

Today's Republicans are not Abraham Lincoln alike. Most Neo-Cons are all racists, such as Donald Trump, Jan Brewer, Donald Sterling, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin, Bob McDonnell... The name list just can go too long. I'm neither conservative nor liberal, that I'm independent or mixed of two. But I'm a democrat supporter because republican party just have a racist party culture. If we talk about the history of two parties, republican party might not be that racist. However, today's republicans are way more racist than democrats.

  • Yes, not by much, but the difference is visible

A Yale study in 2008 found that responsiveness differs between Republican and Democratic state legislators when replying to emails from either a black alias or a white alias. Republican legislators were four times more likely to discriminate against the black alias, while the Democratic legislators were equally responsive to both the white and black alias. Even when the black alias identified as Republican, the Republican legislator would still discriminate (though discrimination dropped by 40%). While other surveys find that racist opinions exist in both parties, those same surveys do show a trend that the more one identifies as Republican, the likelier he/she is to have negative attitudes against blacks. In addition, Republicans tend to be more "vocal" in expressing racist opinions, which is an indicator that they might be more racist in fact or more likely to bring their racism into play when crafting public policies (i.E. Drafting bills that specifically target a majority of black voters). A quick Google search confirms the more virulent strain of racist speech in the Republican Party, and as for racist public policy, see the Voter ID Laws and the attacks against Affirmative Action policies, where Republican leaders use racial rhetoric to embolden racists in their own party. If the Republican Party would clamp down on racially insulting statements from their own members, the public perception of them might not label them as racists, as another survey conducted of American young voters from age 20-25 demonstrated when the top three labels for the Republican party was "old-fashioned", "racist" and "cruel". Altering public opinion however would still do nothing for their racist policies.

  • No, not all.

What party supported slavery? Democrats. What party supported Jim Crow Laws? Democrats. What party wanted it so blacks didn't have rights? Democrats. What party supported the KKK? Democrats. Who was the Democrats military? The KKK. Which Democratic senator said that Obama would have a chance since he was a "light skinned negro" Democratic senate majority leader Harry Reid. What Democratic Senator used to be in the KKK? Robert Byrd. What year did the first black democrat get accepted into the senate? 1999. Which reverend and Democratic nominee for president in 1984 used to spit in white people's food? Jesse Jackson. Also, again which reverend and Democratic nominee said “White folks was in the caves while we was building empires. We built pyramids before Donald Trump ever knew what architecture was, we taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.”? Al Sharpton. Which MSNBC political commentator said "more blacks are on food stamps than whites" Chris Matthews, and when really more whites are on food stamps than them. Which Vice president said to black a crowd "they're going to put you all back in chains if you vote republican" Joe Biden. Which congressman called whites "Crackers" Charlie Ranger. Again, which vice president nominee said "Barack Obama was the first clean cut, mainstream African American and it should be a story man."? Joe Biden. Which Democratic president said this when he signed the civil rights bill: "I'll keep this niggers voting Democratic for 200 years."? Lyndon B. Johnson.

Who passed the civil rights act? Republicans. Who opposed slavery? Republicans. What party was founded on anti-slavery activists? The Republican Party. Which Republican President freed the slaves? Abraham Lincoln. Which president vowed to end segregation in the state of the union in 1953? Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower. What black Republican said "I recognize the Republican party as the sheet anchor of the colored man's political hopes and the ark of his safety"? Fredrick Douglas. What black civil rights activists and minister was republican? Martin Luther King Jr. If Republicans are so racist how come Herman Cain, Allen West, Condoleezza Rice, Niger Innis, (a Tea Party Activist) 50 cent, Ron Christie, Elbert Guillroy, Alan Keyes, Colin Powell, Rod Paige, Star Parker, Michael Powell, Samuel Pierce, Mia Love, Amy Holes, Ted Hayes, James Garner, Larry Elder, Keith Butler, Jennette Bradley, Randy Brock, Randy Daniels, Oscar Dun, Robert Delarge, Alfonso Rachel, Jennifer Carroll, Michelle Bernard, Claude Allen, Carson Ross, Edward Brooke, Ken Hamblin, and Melvin H. Evans are all Republican? All these conservatives, especially the ones who are black still see the racism in the Democratic party. Many, many, black Republicans have said "The democratic party puts blacks in a box, and make you think you can't get through life without government. And by that, they think we are inferior to them." If Republicans are so racist, why are their blacks and minorities in their party? Liberals, I see as the racists.

  • The democrats are the 4 s's

Dr. Ben Carson, MD, "White liberals are the most racist people there are." The Democrats are the party of the 4 s's: slavery, secession, segregation, and socialism.

Here are a few of those Democratic quotes.

LBJ: "I'll have them n**gers voting Democrat for the next two-hundred years."
Wallace: "Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever."
Wilson: "Segregation is not humiliation, but a benefit."

It was the REPUBLICANS that pushed the civil rights and abolition of slavery, NOT THE DUMBOCRATS!

  • There is a lot of flawed logic here.

Anyone who equates conservative or Republican with racist is the exact thing they are projecting on others. Plain and simple.

Racism is simply the lumping together of large groups of people and claiming they all have the same traits. Anyone who says that all conservatives are racist is exactly the same. The most racist people I have ever met have been liberals. But that doesn't mean I think all liberals are racists. That's absurd. But you continue on making generalizations about people you don't even know. That just shows how tolerant and open-minded you really are.

  • A Switch took place - but NOT how you think. (1)

The Left like to claim there was a "switch" of Southern "Racist" Democrats over to the Right. They like to claim that their own racist elements (the Dixiecrat's) left the Democrat Party (giving them a clean racist bill of health) and joined the Republican Party, thereby giving the Right a not so clean racist Bill of health. They also like to claim this was done somewhere around 1965 when the Civil Rights Bill was passed, thereby pissing off those Dixiecrat's and causing them to leave the Left.

However, out of the 18 Dixiecrat leaders, only two (2) came to the Republican side and the remaining 16 racist Dixiecrat's remained with the Democrat Party.

Can you smell the fish yet?

See, the Left can't live with their own history, so they have to come up with this nonsense that we all somehow "switched sides." That they were no longer racists, but the Republicans now were.

Well, there was a switch, sort of. Actually there were at least several that come to mind.

LBJ realized that Oppressing Blacks was no longer going to work. Blacks were starting to fight back. Marches, not sitting in the back of the bus, school desegregation, MLK, and so on. So with the 1965 Civil Rights Bill Democrats went from openly Oppressing Blacks to benevolently buying their votes through welfare programs, and entitlement programs that LBJ figured would keep Blacks on a voting plantation for as long as Blacks wanted the very meager, yet Free, life. And all that was required was their vote every few years.

Democrat Racism is based on Affirmative Action, or more precisely, on the premise that African Americans are "incapable" of competing on a level playing field. In other words, it is based on the same notion of White Supremacy that Democrats have always held.

Democrats like to point to "The Southern Strategy" as that magical moment when the south turned Republican. But that can't be true, because if the entire South was already Republican by the 1970's or even the 1980s, then how in the heck did Bill Clinton win the Presidency by winning nearly all the southern states in 1993? Well, he won because in 1993 the South was still heavily Democrat country. Not Republican.

The "switch" (if thats what you wish to call it) didn't gradually actually happen until relatively recently (within the past 15 years), certainly long after Bill Clinton was elected President by winning votes from most of the South.

  • Republicans stand for equality with all Americans

Democrats have historically been extremely racist. Now, to gain support from various minority groups, the democratic party is going above and beyond to try to hide their racist past. They attempt to give ridiculous benefits to minorities, making it harder for the average American to get and stay ahead. Republicans believe all Americans should have the same opportunities; nobody should get handouts for simply being a minority. Democrats were the main force hampering the passing of the civil rights act. Even John F Kennedy strongly opposed the 1957 civil rights act, and being that he was a senator at this time, he voted against the act. Democrats like Franklin Roosevelt opposed anti-lynching laws. Southern governors and senators, opposed integration, civil rights, and equal opportunity. Their current philosophies are simply a cover up for their dark history. Racial equality is an equal regard to all races. Being that democrats favor policies strictly advantageous to minoroties, by definition, they are still more racist than republicans, who believe in equal opportunity for all.

  • Why phrase it that way???

So you start the debate with a veiled bias? Why not ask "Are Democrats more racist than Republicans"? The younger set does not remember George Wallace who was a STRONG racist Democrat and fought civil rights tooth and nail. My family has been "yellow dog Democrats" back to Adam. That is, the would vote for a yellow dog before they would a Republican. In the Democrat primary one branch enthusiastically supported Hillary. When Obama won, one of the younger women asked "Dad,what do we do now"?
    "Vote for the nigger".
    This is not atypical.
Here's a little article that lays it out pretty succinctly.

  • The democratic party created the racial divide in this country.

Now many of the democrats will argue the party changed over time. It was the democrats who supported and tried to preserve slavery. The democrats have historically voted against any bill pertaining to equal rights for minorities. All they really did was pretend to change and continue to keep minorities reliant on the government in an attempt to secure their place in office.
