Are social networking sites generally beneficial to our way of life?

  • Social networking sites increase social interaction and connections.

Social networking sites have a beneficial effect on our way of life. They increase our social interaction and give us more ways to make social connections. As long as the individual remembers and accepts that a decrease in privacy comes with that increased social interaction, then it is a benefit. It stops being a benefit when people forget about the decrease in privacy and do things through social networking sites that they may not want everyone to see.

  • Absolutely

  • Helpful to us many ways

Although we waste our time in chatting, we are totally updated with the present news which were happening around us. Helpful for communication and contact

Social Networking Sites are very useful for communication and to be remain in contact with your friends, relatives; even though they are very far from you. Also it helps to share feelings of each other which is very difficult to do with face to face.
Also people can get job because of social networking sites. Also they can be useful for getting life partners. Etc.

  • Helpful in adverse situations

One of the major cons of social networking is the distraction it causes in everyday lives. Many of us can’t go an hour without checking for updates and this can cause us to get distracted from what’s really important in life. Instead of focusing on work, school and family, we spend majority of our time online looking for the next juicy status update, headline or photograph. Social networking is supposed to help individuals learn and grow. Instead, every time we are on a social site, we feel unproductive and distracted. It is fast changing from a platform where we communicate with others into a platform where we advertise oneself to others.

  • Helpful for communication and contact

Social Networking Sites are very useful for communication and to be remain in contact with your friends, relatives; even though they are very far from you. Also it helps to share feelings of each other which is very difficult to do with face to face.
Also people can get job because of social networking sites. Also they can be useful for getting life partners. Etc.

  • For Easy communication

Social networking sites for me are very helpful especially that i'm far away from my parents, sisters, and other loved ones. With Facebook i can just communicate with them, see them in video chat in just how many clicks. You can send them messages as much as you can anytime, anywhere.

  • Ya it is beneficial

Because one can get a plenty of information from it . One can enhance his or her knowledge while surfing through many sites . One can talk to the relatives who lives far away. It is the best and the cheapest way to interact with each other and thats it .

  • Why wrong use?

Social networking sites are there for us to share our views with others and to connect with our friends. They are not meant to harm others. All that is happening today is a curse for these friendly and useful websites. We ourselves are making wrong use of them and then blaming them for the the crimes
being committed. Its our responsibility to check and stop ourselves before we do this to the websites.

  • Social media develops relationships

Social media brings together people of common interests. For example on Facebook, people can join groups which interest them, allowing them to meet like-minded friends. This can kick-start more in-depth discussion of common topics, sharing of personal experiences and exchanging of ideas, which deepen newfound friendships.

Social media provides opportunities for the rapid expansion of an individual’s social circle to include international people. Social media therefore makes it possible to develop a high volume of relationships easily.

Social media increases speed and accessibility of communication. Through social media, you can communicate with others anywhere and at any time as long as there is a electronic device. It is a lot faster than communicating via snail mail and helps in communicating with real-life friends or friends from other countries because they can receive the letter or message in a fraction of a second instead of days.

  • Children can gain social confidence from interacting with other people online, which may help them feel more secure in new situations.

Some Children can help people in the social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter. Some knowledge that they do not know, they can ask them. While some of the knowledge he/she does not know, he/she can ask his social networking’s friends. Friends should help each other, so that they can build a strong bond in our friendship.

  • No social network? I don't think so.

Social media is a way for us to communicate with our family and friends. It is also a way to know what is happening around the world and last but not least a form of entertainment. It is true that humans have lived on for centuries without social media, but were they this advanced at that time? Did they know this much of information we now know in the present? In the past, people used to travel days and nights just to tell someone some news but nowadays, they can do it in a phone call or an email. This is how advanced technology is. So when people say that it is bad that social network came about, ask then if they own a computer or a phone at home and it will shut them up as social network is something that we all cannot do without in the present.

  • Seeming to be more so...

I believe that they are because people are always looking for new ways to express themselves. Some don't feel as if they can because they ''will be judged''. So they can do it anonymously sometimes so its a way out of the "real world". Also, it helps expand our learning if people allow it to. You can express your point of view and have it challenged in a way you might not have seen it before. You get to have your own stance on issues and debate those. Now they do also have there down falls. Sites like these can cause people to come passive and complacent without true social skills.

  • Stats say so

60 million Americans received help with major life issues (changing jobs, finding a new place to live, and caring for someone with an illness) from people in their social networks in 2006. These people said social networking sites helped them connect with friends and experts who assisted in their decisions.

  • Yes it does

From personal experience I can say that it is a good thing as I myself had to travel half way around the world - Facebook in particular helped me keep in touch with my family and friends as did Twitter and Instagram. It does have its downsides like bullying etc but overall it is the best thing that has happened to the human race.

  • Social networking has a huge impact in our lives

    -It helps in job opportunities

-They also play a role in entertainment

  • When used in moderation social networking sites

Are beneficial to our way of life Social networking sites allow us to interact with out friends and family in a number of ways which can be fun and provide enjoyment. They also allow us to keep in contact with people when we may not have an up to date phone number or address and the chat function can also be a beneficial method of communication.

  • They are beneficial

  • Yes yes yes

It supports some online relations which can be continued for long as per thier match it counts different that some people don't make it use seriously well that can't make any problem for us cause thpse who use it properly are someone who will be one on the top of word through these

  • Its just about the misuse.

It is the misuse of social sites which harms the society.Like for example the knife in your home can be misused ,but do u stop using it in your kitchen.People should use their discretion and use these sites which can be very useful for the society.Today with social site you can connect with your childhood friend

  • Social networking sites connects us to the world

Social networking sites are basically joining us to the world apart. There are not a disaster to us. They are truly beneficial, many people think that it is a threat to people just because some sick people are misusing it. I am a girl of class 9 and I am not even eligible for that but I appreciate it cause I can connect to my friends anywhere anytime easily. Through little efforts you can make it an important part of your life.

  • Social networking sites are boon for us

Yes definitely they are boon because if you look back in past when there was no social networks there were lots of problems .Because people were not able to communicate with each other result the work which need to complete in 2 days it takes 10 or 11 days to complete. The people who want to conveys his/her message to society he can't able to do so because they don't have social networking sites. But today we have them to share our views in any topic of interests ,we can easily communicate each other.

  • Mobile phones are same as socail media...

People say the same thing with cell phones no they think it is good that you can text people without the worry of having to call them or walk down to them. Cell phones do most of the same things that social networking sites do like you can communicate with others, play games, make calls and listen to music, so why do people believe that cell phones are good but social networking sites aren't one of the only differences between the two is that cell phones are portable and you can get facebook on their for free.
Surely if you think cell phones are good for you then social networking is too.

  • Social networking sites have many advantages....

Social networking sites have many uses. For example Facebook which connects us with our friends. We can chat, send messages, share and tag photos & videos. We can express our views by updating statuses. In youtube we can upload videos and can also watch videos too. Social networking sites helps us to remain touch with our family members also.

  • Help express yourself

In social networking it can help express your self more. Naturally people is shy to talk to other face to face for the simple fact that there not comfortable with that situation. So social networking can help fix that issue by letting people express there inner self and have a fun time connecting with there friends.

  • Yes it it

Yes, help in multiple ways. Social Networking Sites help us keep in touch with family members and friends. It is also a great way to start relationships. Whether it is just a friendship, a romance, or even a partnership, social networking can help us find these relationships. Social Networking Sites can also help with a business or company. It can help with marketing. The sites may also provide a good place for discussion, if it is too hard to meet in person.

  • Who can live with out social netwroking?

I know that I sure as heck can't! Social networking is like the best thing ever, but then again i'm a VERY SOCIAL PERSON! I know for a fact that social networking helps me communicate with my friends and family. Not to mention meet new people from all over the world! Not only does it let communicate with your friends and family, and meet new people; Social networking also helps you notify your friends about what your up to that day, or what's going on in your life.

  • Good Way to Communicate

Many people communicate using sites such as Facebook, Skype, MySPace, or Instagram. This helps old relatives keep in touch, especially for many immigrants. WE can also use these to communicate with people about schoolwork and news. This allows many people to correctly complete assignments, and many teachers create online communities to keep in touch with his or her students.

  • Yes, Social Media is the very best because chicken tastes better than cow meat.

I believe that social media and networking sites are very beneficial to our health because according to several surveys done by Harvard University of Antarctica, the more connections you have, the higher self-esteem you have. That means you have more friends and are more confident. When people are happy and confident, they tend to be a lot more happy and according to another survey done by Harvard, people tend to not kill themselves as much.

  • Yes read this now!

I believe that social media does have its positive sides and its negative sides. Social media gives you the chance to talk to people or friends overseas, it is also quick and simple to setup and use, but you’re just typing on a keyboard. Just looking at a screen and because of this we lose the emotion and personal side to your messages.
I personally think that social media is a positive thing; because without it I believe that a lot of people wouldn't’t be able to function and would find it hard to live without it. I for example really like the everyday talks with my friends and seeing what’s going on in their lives via social media and I think it’s a positive and a privilege to be able to do something like this.
But just like there are positives there will always be negatives, like Social media being addictive. I’m not sure how someone would define being addicted to social media but I personally know a lot of people that are always using social media whether it’s when they’re at home or it’s during school hours, and because of their constant time spend using social media they fail to complete school work and there have even been stories of people missing important events in their lives because they were too busy on social media.
Like I have stated above, I personally believe that social media gives more good than bad but that is just my opinion and there will still be lots more different ones stating that it is just another negative thing that has been added to our mortal world. But until someone gives hard evidence that social media is a positive or negative people will just continue throwing around opinions trying to persuade everyone to their side.

  • Social networking sites helps people connect; Thus, beneficial to our way of life.

For some people who may be socially awkward or even senior citizens who feel disconnected or not apart of society, it may help them feel welcomed. A person may have a family member or friend ina different state and country, but by the help of social networking sites, it helps them stay connected. It also helps the economy.

  • Overall, social networking sites are beneficial to our way of life.

Although social networking sites have their downsides, I believe that they are generally beneficial. In this day and age, when personal communication and relationships are in jeopardy, social networking sites at least keep people somewhat connected. Through an extended network of friends one can keep connections intact that would have otherwise faded with time. Within the context of social networking sites people also have found a place to vent and show other emotions that they might not have shown face to face or to certain individuals. This gives them a chance to receive comfort and conciliation from unassuming places. All of these reasons are why I don't frequent social networking sites, but maintain they are still a great addition to today's society.

  • Fantastic way to share ideas and thoughts.

I rather have people debate (argue) online, than debate (argue) in the street, or keep their thoughts bottled up inside and say nothing at all to where they may get violent later. When we debate (argue) in person, we have a limited time frame on which to do so. Consequently, with a social network, you can always get back to the debate (argument) at a later time. Lastly, debating (arguing) on a social network encourages people to write, and practice on their writing skills.

  • Yes, help in multiple ways.

  • Of course it's good!

I'm cyber-schooled and Facebook helps me be able to stay in touch with my friends. Its not that dangerous unless you're accepting friend requests from strangers! The people having problems are the ones who send requests to people they do not know and accept them from people they don't know.

  • Yes it is beneficial.

Because it is possible for us to communicate with family who do not stay close to us.
It is also possible for friends and family to share their thoughts rather than sharing personally.
It is also possible to link with people who share the same thoughts or interests.
You can meet people who share the same interests. You can easily make friends with other people and talk to them freely and openly.

  • Technology is good for our social lives

Because you can stay in touch with relatives/ friends. You also can find old college friends or one of your old teachers. Also people say that you have more emotions over phones or computers. Scientists have proven that technology is helpfully to the younger age and not very much to the older wiser people of this age group.

  • I think social networking sites are good as they have beneficial side too.

If we don't have social networking side how will i tell you my opinions and read your opinions. These sides help us too find anything like on google. These sites help us to connect with others through facebook, gmail, we chat etc.So i think social networking sites are imprtant part of our life.

  • Fanthoms. Something to hold on to.

Through social media, people can connect with people from all over the world, especially those who can't find like-minded people that geographically live around them such as collegues, classmates, or office partners. Social media has brought birth to easily accessible fanthoms on the internet where thousands of like-minded people from all over the world connect and form a large crowd where they can sympathize, share information, have fun, become creative, and amputate some of the individual's lonliness. It's not a shy "I like this thing" problem anymore. It's more of like "the *blank* fanthom thinks so and so and is going crazy(and I'm one of them!)".
Social media has broken the barriers of location and time and have given a sense of belonging, connection, and happiness to people who can not find these things in the society they find themselves in. To some people, social media is a timeless, never-dying, and never-betraying friend, an oasis of connection in a world full of very little people with similarities, and this is a positive aspect of social networks that can't be denied.
And fanthoms are just one example. A lot of times people do have the same thoughts but are just afraid to show it, afraid it might not be welcomed in the society. So they go on the internet and express themselves. Then people gather and form an idea, and this is a very powerful thing because it can bring change. Or simply knowing that there is a society of people from all over the globe out there who feels the way I feel brings happiness and something to hold on to when times in real life get hard.

  • Yes Continuous in touch with world

Do not have time to talk n meet personally but through FB ,Whats app we are in touch. Lots of Information , knowledge, new things can be shared through social networking. On an average Our lives 20% time we invest daily if we use it to gain knowledge from friends, good FB pages , Posts etc. Each coin has two sides . So if someone addict to these things , sites then its a just waste of precious time of life

  • See the real thing!

Facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat, are all social networks, are they useful? Do you use them to chat?To know news about they others? To know what's new in the world? If you say yes to all of these question it's because you need these site, these apps, to be informed. We are now in this generation, you can't communicated if you don't have a cell phone or a computer. We need to live with the new world. Don't passe beside this.

  • Cheapest way for getting information.

To get information's for our projects, debates, etc we use internet. So we can get everything related to our topic not only from one point of view but from different people rather than buying a book which is costly than using internet sites.I am not saying books are bad but we all prefer the "easiest" way for everything.

  • Easier to communicate

Social networks make communication between others alot easier. Since we can use abbreviations it makes it alot quicker to. It is a benefit when you work on project and when you try to develop an idea. It is also a good way to show the entire world what you are capable of. It is quicker and easier to communicate with people across the world.

  • Yes it is helpful

One of the major cons of social networking is the distraction it causes in everyday lives. Many of us can’t go an hour without checking for updates and this can cause us to get distracted from what’s really important in life. Instead of focusing on work, school and family, we spend majority of our time online looking for the next juicy status update, headline or photograph.

  • Keeping Up with News

A lot of people don't read the newspaper anymore, or watch the news, or anything anymore. Honestly, I heard about Nelson Mandela dying on twitter before I saw any articles or anything on a different social media outlet. Also, social media allows me to connect with people who live far away from me but I am still friends with. I go to a camp for 2 months of the year, and I am best friends with people who live far away from me. Through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, I get to talk to these people who I love through the whole year, not just for those 2 months when I live with them. I think that social media can be disrupting in some situations, like when you're out with real people, but its also helpful in a world where people don't read real books.

  • Social networking sites

Social networking helps us to connect with friends, help us to know people around us and connects us to latest updates, fashion and other things and not only things it helps us to learn better as a student can learn more in a group discussion than studying alone. At last i would say they are very usefull as well as important.

  • Social networking sites gives us more knowledge

This all depends upon you how you are using them. For example you can use fb for increasing our knoweledge by liking the pages of various newspapers, scientific chanells and so on. Similarly on twitter you can follow different big personalities instead of just enjoying with your friends. Socil networking sites give you a better option to communicate with your friends and relatives . It is also a place where you can meet up with your old friends and family and stay connected with them no matter which part of the world they stay in.Even if you have a phone you might not remember there number. • For fun and relaxation sometimes useful

Social network are really a good thing in relaxing our mind in a stressful environment and it helps to keep us contact with our friends for a long period so its easy to gather for a good cause or anything... Good or bad it all depends on an individual... Social network has nothing to do with that

  • Social networking sites increase social interaction and connections

Social Networking has become very popular during the past few years, but it can still be very difficult to understand for someone new to social networking. The open-ended nature of social networks add to this. Once signed onto a social network, having answered a few basic profile questions, it is easy to sit back and wonder what you are supposed to do next.

The easiest way to understand social networking is to think of it like high school. You had friends in school, and you knew quite a few people even if you weren't friends with all of them, but it's likely that you didn't know everyone.

If you ever moved to a new school -- or if you can imagine moving to a new school -- you start out with no friends. After attending classes, you start meeting people, and as you meet them, you begin associating with those that have similar interests.

Getting started with social networking is much the same as starting at a new school. At first, you don't have any friends. But as you join groups, you begin to meet people, and you build a friends list of those with similar interests.

  • What will you do without it !?

Social networks are very important in our society, since it permits us to keep in touch with everyone ! Friends, family, relatives ... Who live far away, I want to know how they are and check their pages sometimes, and I won't be able to do that without social networking sites.

  • We use it everyday.

I know there are cons to networking sites but, it helps us connect to faraway family or friends we haven't talked to in a long time. Also it's the 21st century and social networking sites are actually practicing us for the kinds of skills in the future. Also it helps communication between teachers and students or a collaboration. It also helps us to be connected to our community. We also get our news faster and of whats happening even though it can change, that's why we have social media and other things like it.

  • Explore. Experiment. Evolve.

Social networking sites are the largest platform to discuss problems, get solutions form people all over teh world or simply know things happening around the world. It is an ocean of information. Newspapers and television are hardly lakes compared to Social networking sites. Connections are made, Businesses evolve, and most importantly, thoughts are heard. People come together as one and let their stand become outstanding.

  • It helps our Learning

I believe that social networking sites are beneficial for our learning because... 59% of students with access to the internet report that they are use social networking sites to discuss educational topics and 50% use the sites to talk about school assingments. OR introduced a social media program to engagestudents, Grades went up by 50%. Chronic absenteeism went down by 33% and 20% of students school-wide voluntarily completed extra credit assignments.

  • It's not good or bad.

The Internet has become part of our life. It helps us to communicate with friends or family that we can't talk to face-to-face. Social Media spreads information fast which means police can quickly access what the witnesses saw, or we can quickly find out what is happening around the world before the news or newspaper tells us. 50% of students use social media to talk about school assignments. Social media also helps business managers find the right person for the job. I believe that it is easier to use the Internet to find information than spending ages in a library to find the same info. If you think about it, you are using social media yourself right now. It is letting us express our opinion. Thanks for taking your time for reading this and I hope it has changed what you think about social media, and just remember that social media isn't GOOD or BAD itself, its depends on the user and how he/she uses it.

  • Social media is good

People these days are tweeting and face booking believe it or not it is actually beneficial to students.Students that don't think they don't have a place in this world they tweet about it someone could make them feel better. Social media is a way for people to keep up with what's going on in the world

  • Social Media is good

Students can be provided educational practice through websites and can discuss assignment and study using social media. The problem that comes from social media is presented by the user not the media itself. Social media provides the ability to connect with friends. If you are worried about cyber bullying then the easiets way to get rid of it is to block the person or close your laptop. Simple

  • Yea its imp

Use of social networking sites is beneficial as well as harmful.

The use of social networking sites is advantageous when it is used appropriately. If we use these sites with wrong intentions like just to hurt other's feelings and play with their emotions. It is bad.On the other side, these sites help us to connect with our friends and our family members if they live very far from us.These sites solves the communication problem. And Excess of anything is harmful.

  • More social actually

While many people state that it makes us more anti-social, it is indeed making us more social! We may not be communicating face-to-face, but we ARE communicating when on these sites. We are talking with people around the world. I, personally, have a Twitter account and have made many new friends thanks to the social networking site.

  • Charity for the needy

A famous man once said “How can you squander even one more day, not taking advantage of the greatest shifts of our generation? How dare you settle for less, when the world has made it so easy for you to be remarkable?” – No, he was not talking about the independence struggle; he was talking about social networking.
Good Morning ladies and gentlemen, we are here today to discuss ‘Are social networking sites doing us any good?’ What baffles me is exactly why we need a discussion on the topic. I see the good all around me, don’t you? I see it in the increasing literacy rates, which according to the National Literacy Trust, are directly co-related to children’s engagement with social media. I see it in the cultural convergence that the entire world is experiencing today. But most of all, I see it in the smile on my mother’s face, when she is busy messaging her school friends on facebook, whom she has found after 27 long years.
Did you know that during the Iranian presidential elections of 2009, when the government clamped down on information exchange; Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and You Tube served as the primary mediums of information for the conflicted nation? Twitter’s role alone was so vital that the US government itself got involved in scheduling its downtime. When the nation of Haiti was devastated by an earthquake, dramatic pictures swept the web, thanks to social media. Its impact? The charity text message campaign that ensued raised more than $10 million for Haiti victim relief. How many of us here were aware of this? Not many I presume, since we are still debating the ‘goodness’ of social media.

  • Social Networking benefits outweigh disadvantages-our group opinion

We think social networking has benefits as well as disadvantages. When used appropriately it is a positive communication tool. The advantages include staying in contact with family and friends who live far away, staying up to date on events, and keeping memories. Without social networking, there would be less drama but all of the above advantages would also be lost.

  • Social media helpful in life

I think that should media is beneficial to our way of life because it helps us be connected to friends that have moved to a new place or traveling. Also,it helps managers help pick the right person for the job. Also but its not safe for putting up information about yourself

  • yes

Social networking sites balance a child's privacy and a parent's right to know.

A classic clash always happens when pitting the right to privacy of a child against the right to know of a parent; however, social networking sites find a happy medium, so that neither side is overlooked; for example, on Facebook, a teenager may have private conversations with a friend over the private messaging system, but the parent of this teenager will still be able to keep track of things such as posts made to other friends' walls, pictures posted, etc. Social networking sites give parents the ability to keep tabs on many of their child's online postings, such as pictures and personal information, but without having to directly invade on their child's privacy; this again proves that social networking sites have had a positive effect on society.

  • Contributes to social awareness

Yes I believe social networking sites are very beneficial and useful for the society as they provide people aware of the things and issues going on in the society. sometimes e might either neglect or din't understand the seriousness of the issues but these sites provide platform to think on this.

  • Social media sites do help!

I believe that social media sites help us stay in touch with are friends and family,It also help us find friends we might of lost touch with and it helps us to "reconnect" with them, It also help us with making new friends (friends from around the world or local), Social media sites help us by telling about up coming events, There are many reason why social media sites help us. You just have to find yours!

  • I believe that social networking sites are generally beneficial as they allow people to get connected in a positive way to both personal and professional acquaintances

Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and Myspace do have the capacity to be beneficial to us. They can get word out to multiple people at one time, a la a TV news bulletin. This can be very helpful in the event of a weather emergency, like informing others of a tornado warning. Also they can be useful in getting emergency information out about an event taking place that others need to be made aware of.

  • I believe that social networking sites allow friends and family to keep in touch more easily.

Social networking sites allow people to instantaneously share information about their lives, including events, photos, videos and more, with their friends and family. Keeping in touch with people who live far away is much easier with social networking. Losing touch with old friends or distant family members is less likely to happen when you see their faces and updates every day on your social network. Social networks help people stay in close contact when daily life makes it difficult.

  • I believe that social networking sites are generally beneficial as they allow people to get connected in a positive way to both personal and professional acquaintances.

While many people believed that the Internet would pull people apart, social networking sites give computer-bound people an easy way not only to stay connected to close family and friends but to reconnect with lost friends and meet new ones while also expanding their professional network.

  • In today's fast-paced world, networking sites are a quick and easy way to keep in touch.

Who wouldn't want to have the time for face-to-face conversations with family, close friends and people who just generally mean something to you, and you want to keep in touch? However, about the most we can accomplish is seeing family and close friends and, even then, there's not a lot of time. It's much easier and convenient to keep up through such sites, such as Facebook, without, of course, neglecting time with those you love.

  • i think they help keep us connected

they can cause bad and good things to happen bad= hackers preditors
good= connections with people that you may have restrictions through geographical of physical and they let you in on stuff involving family friends and work

  • I think that social networking sites help keep friends and families together, no matter the distance.

Without the benefit of social networking, many families and relationships would fail under the burden of long distance phone charges or the long period of waiting you have to suffer when using the regular mail. With the use of social networking people not only get to stay in touch, for free in many cases, but they can get a response in minutes, instead of days, weeks or even months by regular mail.

  • While social networking sites have downsides they generally benefit people by letting them maintain connections.

Social networking sites hurt society by encouraging superficiality and narcissism but they also help society. Social networking sites make the maintenance of real relationships easier and help people stay in touch with others. In this way people can weave their support networks more tightly and experience new aspects to the communities they have had around them already.

  • I support social networking sites; it can put one in contact with relatives who otherwise would not know each other.

Throughout my childhood, I never really knew my family outside of my immediate family. However, through social networking, I was able to get in contact with my cousins and developed a relationship with them.

  • When used in moderation social networking sites are beneficial to our way of life

Social networking sites allow us to interact with out friends and family in a number of ways which can be fun and provide enjoyment. They also allow us to keep in contact with people when we may not have an up to date phone number or address and the chat function can also be a beneficial method of communication.

  • Overall, social networking sites are beneficial to our way of life.

Although social networking sites have their downside, I believe that they are generally beneficial. In this day and age, when personal communication and relationships are in jeopardy, social networking sites at least keep people somewhat connected. And, through an extended network of friends one can keep connections in tact that would have, otherwise, faded with time, gotten lost when the phone number was lost or been cut off by distance. Within the context of social networking sites people also have found a place to vent and show other emotions that they might not have shown face to face, or to certain individuals. This gives them a chance to receive comfort and conciliation from unassuming places. All of these reasons are why I don't frequent social networking sites, but they are still a great addition to today's society.

  • Social networking sites are beneficial to our way of life.

I do believe that social networking sites are generally beneficial to our way of lie. They help people in our society meet new and interesting people. It also helps people who have not seen certain friends or family members to locate them. Instead of paying a service to find them you can use a free site to locate them.

  • Social networking sites are beneficial to our way of life because they make communication with others more convenient.

Social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are very good for our way of life. They allow people to keep up with all of their friends very easily (without having to call twenty people a day on the phone) and they can even be a great way to meet new people. Social networking will continue to grow and bring people together as the years go by.

I believe social networking sites are beneficial to our way of life because it increases the communication between friends and family as well as establishes new relationships based on mutual experiences and interests. When an individual joins a social networking site such as Facebook or MySpace they are more than likely looking to connect with friends and family. That connection increases positive relationships among those established relationships. Pictures and videos are shared between the connected group which is a positive action. Also, the ability to build new relationships with people who share common friends and interests is another added benefit. Many social networking sites have interest groups on a wide range of topics and people can join those groups to discuss the subject with like minded people.

  • Social networking on the Internet is beneficial in re-establishing human contact in our digital age since some human interaction is better than none even if it is electronically.

I spend many hours writing at the computer. It's my job. Some days I don't even bother to get out of my pajamas because I know that the whole day will be spent writing articles or doing research at the computer. If a few days would go by without being able to have a laugh or shed a tear because of something family and friends told me on the social networking sites, I might become further disconnected from friends and family due to the work. I have a day job outside the home too so I get plenty of direct human contact. Some people earn their entire living on the computer at home, and need to work fourteen hour days just to avoid bankruptcy. I personally know them! Social networking is a light in the darkness of the new job slavery.

  • I agree with the question, but not completely because there are numerous disadvantages too.

Facebook and Twitter have changed the way our lives work. Our privacy is no longer guaranteed. Yet, it is one most influential means of communication these days. They are simple, quick, free and easy to use. They are a virtual world for teenagers. Their lives revolve around their walls and tweets. Companies and celebrities have followers and pages that let them stay in touch with their fans. There are groups which lets people from all over the world share thoughts and ideas. However, using Facebook and Twitter is not free. Technically it is free. However, these sites contain tons of information and photos of you. No one knows where it goes and what happens to them. The government can access this information without your permission or it could land in some hacker's hand. This is the price we pay to use Facebook! Using Facebook has created marriage problems with couples cheating on each other and so on. So social networking is a mixed blessing.

  • Social networking sites are disasters.

Social networking sites are nothing more than tools for narcissists. Social networking sites are increasing in popularity but are really destroying natural and healthy interpersonal relationships and foster ignorance of the human condition. Take this example, recently two girls fell into a sewer and though they had their cells phones with them, didn't have the common sense to call for help, instead they just updated their Facebook pages until someone figured out they were in trouble and called help for them.

  • Serves as an lazy attempt too see and talk to friends and family.

Why do we need a mediator for relationships we currently have and why do we always use the excuse for these sites: It helps me stay more connected to people. How? By not seeing these people and getting a poor excuse of contact getting a single poke or like makes them feel close to you. And i am not talking about people that are far away i am talking about the friends and family you have right here in town. And guess what you don't ned Facebook for those people either there is phones you know and if your too busy then they probably don't matter all that much now do they.

  • Nope, contributes to a degraded, narcissistic haven for a big brother state society. However CAN at times be used in a positive manner.

As a young man of the 'younger generation', I am looking around and seeing that people are becoming so damn 'zombified' when out and about. People, as a general rule of thumb, now find it rather hard to communicate with one another - far too many people seem to prefer having their heads stuck into their phones 'tweeting'. And furthermore I also feel that the introduction of social networking sites has created a massive shift in the defining of the term 'socialite'. I personally pride myself on being a massively social person, whilst I see and hear FB/Twitter users saying that it is because they're the socialites of today that they use these social media mediums. I just don't understand the logic behind the 'oh, well by sitting at my pc's screen/phone and 'chatting' to my 'acquaintance' from 3,000 miles across the globe in Kazakhstan, who is most probably trying to stalk me because I have a few pics revealing my babylons I am being more sociable than perhaps using FB as a medium for arranging a night out clubbing or a trip to the cinema with my ACTUAL friends and family.' Of course this is a rather exaggerated (worryingly - not so at times!) example, but the point to my argument is there and also that there are people who do know how to use networking sites in a more responsible and truly 'social' way. Last but not least, all of the near (I believe) 1 billion people actively using FB and other sites, appear to all be BLISSFULLY ignorant of the fact that in the grand scheme of things, they are merely signing their rights away to the state. Networking sites are being used as mediums by the STATE (regardless of what country you're from) to actively pursue the 'Big Brother State' endeavour - a conglomeration of pig-greedy bankers, war criminal leaders and a merry band of other un-holy alliances that simply wish to soak up as much assets from 'the people' as they can. I will not go into any more detail on this subject, feel free to cast me out as a conspiracy theorist, the proof will be in the pudding as they say!

  • Shouldn't be banned, but would you still take the risk?

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Skype! It is the generation of the Internet and this site are ruling over it, but does that mean that they are good? Social media sites are very popular in this generation and almost every child; teen and even adult has them but being on a social networking site isnt always good. First off, what is a social networking site? Well a social networking site is a website where you can socialize with other people all around the world or even people in your hometown it is organized by a group of people who specialize in the area of technology, but sometimes any group of people whether they are specialized or not could make one. An example of this would be, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and MySpace. Even some companies/businesses use these sites to stay in contact with each other. Social Networking sites are said to make things easier because you are able to talk to people from different areas. As soon as you add your family and friends it will be easy to share videos and pictures. Many people think of social media sites as all fun and games but these sites actually cause very serious problems. Social media sites cause more harm than good because it causes lack of activity, it gives people access to your personal information and many people get cyberbullyed on social media sites.

  • No not at all..

Social networking like Facebook, Twitter, playing games and chatting etc. can be harmful because:
1} it destroys natural and healthy interpersonal relationships and is harmful to human beings.
2} it is a harmful, destructive and negative distraction in education.
3} nearly 60% of students have failed to achieve good grades in their examinations.

  • Infiltration of security

Ones security is not protected on a certain website and can be hacked into & pictures can be downloaded and put up on sites without the owners concern. Many murders have been committed online, it is natural for kids of age 12 to pretend they are 20 on a social network or to accept friend requests from strangers.

  • No, because we never needed them before, so why now?

We have functioned as a society for hundreds of years with nothing more to communicate with others but a pencil and paper. Is it easier and more convenient? Yes. Beneficial? Not really. Not when you take into consideration that people could be doing so many more things in their spare time, instead of looking at a computer screen, watching what other people are doing. Which is also staring at a computer screen.

  • Not at all

Human beings have survived centuries without social media. Youngsters take it too seriously, they become completely infatuated with how many friends they have or how many likes they can receive for a picture of someone born with a disability. It also teaches people that they can receive a false sense of quick gratitude for "unaccomplishments" when in real life you need to work hard for years to receive a few 'likes', and then work some more.

  • "Yes" is crazy

Social networking sites are beneficial? What about all the missing children that go away with their older "lovers" that disguise themselves as young prince charmings? What about bullying that leads to young children committing suicide? Yea, sure that's wonderful! If you want to stay in contact with distant friends, how about writing a letter or making a phone call? It was good enough for your parents and grandparents, what makes you so much better?

  • Social networking damages the ethic fabric of socuety

Social networking degrades social interaction, changes the behavior in society, changes perspectives of tradition and culture, are a platform of discrimination and catalyst for violence.
Cyber-bullying has its varying effects on children, including everything between depression to suicide. Produces harm for the users as well as the society. Negative influence of networking sites.

  • Social Networking; pointless.

These sites are completely pointless. People say that, "they help keep people connected" and such and such. But isn't that why we created cell phones? To call and talk to someone? We can not have a meaningful relationship with someone when all you do is type back and forth. Yes if you and an old friend lost touch and you wanted to find them again all you had to do is type there name into a search bar and there they are. That's all fine and dandy, but you can Google their name and probably find their number on there too. All these sites do is take away time that you could be using to do something productive, like going outside, reading, or even school work!! These sites take students away from there school work. It gives them an, "excuse" to not do it, because once you go onto one of these sites you loose track of time. One minute your looking at the clock and its 2:30, next time you look its 5:30 and before you know it you've blown 3 hours doing NOTHING. I think these sites should cease to exist.

  • What Happened to quality relationships?

While social networking sites can aid to online relationships, real life relationships can become weak or even non existent. While your cooped up in your room on your laptop, you are spending less time with real life and legitimate relationships and spending more time on a false friendship with some one online. What ever happened to a good old phone call or meet up? Is this really where my generation is headed? We are in trouble.

  • Divert our mind

Facebook Facebook Facebook after all these rubbish activities where do we the students have time to concentrate on our studies. Parents should not allow their children to join Facebook before 18 years of age. And those who join Facebook or any social networking sites should be very conscious of what all activities they are doing on it.

  • Psychological, physical, and emotional problems

No. It gives people a way to bully others through the Internet. It is also a way to be someone else and act as though they are way better than they actually are. It eventually creates a split personality and can cause psychological problems along the way. It creates unhealthy relationships too.

  • the brain cannot complete the learning process

It is not yet known as to the affects that a combination of hard copy books and reading off the internet will have on young people. But there is evidence for older people that suggests they are finding it more difficult to stay focused and even actually read something more than 3 pages and this evidence is from a previous columnist for the guardian and executive editor of the harvard business review author Nicholas Carr. Furthermore, the information we read on the internet minimizes the amount of thinking our brains have to do this is not a good sign if anything, the analyzing process of the text is more important, this process is there to help us remember information as opposed to just finding the answer.

  • Definitely not, wasting our 'real lives.'

This generation is becoming more and more addicted to the thing we call internet. Within the internet there are many components in which it is split up into. Social networking being one of the most popular among young adolescents. Cyber bullying occurs on this and it greatly affects children's studies and their school life , having students act as a different person online to who they are in person.

  • No. It's becoming a waste of time.

It is deceasing the productivity of people. People waste time on it. There was a time when social networking meant getting connected with people literally. It's becoming a virtual and fake now. We don't even know a person in real, and call them a friend. It's not a good Sign.

  • Creating unnecessary competition.

While the purpose of the social networks is to connect people, most of them serve as another front of the constant war that is life in a community. Everyone feels a need to project an image of himself as a superior person in comparison with everyone else. Even if someone isn't extremely competitive and hypocritical in nature, there is a tremendous pressure from the network itself. Ultimately, everyone is transformed in another, much more competitive person - but one that doesn't know what they compete for. One would argue that the respect in a community, as well as the connections, are a valuable resource. I partially agree, but then, one has to ask: is that the most efficient, healthy and productive way for a person to spend their time? I seriously doubt that. I have given Facebook a try - I was using it for three years, which for me were very unhappy. As I was spending more and more time on the network, I was feeling less and less happy for who I am - a direct consequence of the unrealistic, perfect projections of people, which I was forced to compete with, just in order to "survive."

  • No, they can have a negative affect on people's 'real' life.

A lot of people these days are so caught up in things on social networking sites there not paying attention to all the things that are happening around them. I mean when was the last time these people went out and physically talked to someone rather than messaging them on Facebook. Another thing is how many of your friends do you really personally know? Isn't a friend someone you can trust and you respect and would stick up for not just someone you just meet on line?

  • No, social networking sites are not helping.

Yes, they are the fastest way to spread information but are they really helping us? Do we really need all of our computers and iPhones and other gadgets to keep us updated? What happened to using TV and newspapers and radios? Besides not everything on the internet is true. Lots of false news and information are put on websites and have given some people a very hard time.

Social networking sites are also a huge waste of time! In June, 2012 over 121 billion minutes were spent on social networking sites! All these minutes used on liking someone's photo could be used to get outside and enjoy the wonderful country that we live in. Everyone is saying that obesity is a problem but I think if people actually got out of their computer chair and did something with their life we wouldn't have this problem. I therefore believe that social networking sites are not benefiting us and our way of life.

  • Social networking sites are harmful.

Social networking sites are harmful as people hide their identities and play with others feelings and emotions. By sharing pictures people get unexpected comments that hurt ones feelings. Social networking sites became a key for time passing. Most of the people time pass on these sites and it effects our daily life especially in education.

  • It is harmful.

Social networking like Facebook, Twitter, playing games and chatting etc. can be harmful because:
1} it destroys natural and healthy interpersonal relationships and is harmful to human beings.
2} it is a harmful, destructive and negative distraction in education.

  • False sense of perfection

People only display the best of their lives on these social websites, showing a false sense of perfection. Subconsciously, people compare themselves to others, whether they mean to or not. What can be beneficial about seeing others living a "perfect" life? Trying to meet these false standards set by others is an unhealthy way to live.

  • Studies are disturbed

More use of social networking sites such as Facebook Twitter etc can be distracting and can negatively distract education. Experiments prove that 60% of students failed to achieve good marks in examinations due to more usage of social networking sites. It takes all the time in which we creative ideas

  • NO

I believe that social networking sites are unnecessary.

Social networking sites may be beneficial due to high sophistication of technology, but was it really worth it? Users may have gained huge advantage, but did you know that there are many witnesses have been victimized? Did you also noticed that social networking sites can leave our identities and our locations exposed? This indicate that sooner or later we may become vulnerable to unknown threats. We didn't ask for this, but still they gave chances for the dirt-bags behind the scenes.

If it was affecting our brain, I think we would know, if you have a problem, and you know you have a problem, you should probably stop, if you know u have a problem stop!! I don't think that it is affecting us, because if it was we would be a lot worse off than we are!

  • Although social networking sties are a great way to connect to the world, they are not beneficial to our way of life, because all they do is take away time that people could be doing constructive things.

Facebook is a global phenomenon and, for some reason, there are people who feel the need to update their status with details of their every waking moment. For starters, a few years ago, "pre-Facebook", there was no catastrophe if someone you went to high school with didn't know that you got a haircut on a particular day and, additionally, taking time to write "I got a haircut" several times a day could be spent doing chores, or homework, or some other productive thing.

  • Rate of suicide can increase..

There are high rate of criminals all over social networking sites such as MySpace, facebook and Twitter. Sexual predators can be found..

  • I do not think social networking sites are generally beneficial to our way of life because it encourages too much superficial sense of self worth.

Social networking sites are not generally beneficial to us because they create an instant gratification society whose self worth is far too involved with the exterior world. No longer are people able to come home from school or work and make the crucial switch from public to private life. This degrades a person's sense of identity, at times to the point where it causes serious mental health concerns. It also vacuums up time from other outlets, priorities, and activities like face-to-face contact with family, or doing work at one's job because people basically just stay on these sites all day.

  • Social Networking sites are NOT benefitial to society.

There are a high rate of criminals all over Social Networking Sites such as: Myspace, Twitter or Facebook. Sexual predators can be found in any of these networking sites. With social networking sites people are at high risk of identity theft through posts, pictures or information published on the sites. Also networking sites can affect a person's behavoir and socialization by losing the ability to communicate face-to-face with others.

  • It's so time consuming in a world of multitasking.

In a world where we text while we drive and eat while we work, social networking sites are adding more ways to distract us from being productive society members. Studies show that multitasking does not produce as good of a result as solely dedicating oneself to a project. Yet, I can't even begin to count the number of times I've been in a meeting and I see people on their iPhones tweeting or updating their Facebook. These people aren't interested in collaborating on this project, they are waiting to see the replies to their last posts. In addition, if they would spend even half the amount of time on work as they do tweeting, they may actually get something accomplished.

  • These sites take up entirely too much time with a lot of information that is of little benefit to society.

Social networking sites have become an epidemic and an addiction for many. Hours and hours are wasted sitting in front of a computer instead of going outside and getting fresh air, enjoying the beauty of a sunrise or a sunset and many of the other benefits of nature. There is no way to measure the number of hours that are wasted in the workplace because of the use of these sites.

  • Social networking sites are little more than entertainment.

Social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook are little more than entertainment for bored people lacking better uses of their time. They contribute nothing to society as a whole other than to present a means by which to fill idle time. On the negative side, they give a venue to sick individuals wishing to inflict harm on unsupervised children.

  • Social networking sites are nothing more than tools for narcissists.

  • Reduces our human interaction

With the advent of social media, our human interactions have decreased exponentially. Instead of talking face to face or even on the phone, we prefer scribbling messages on each other's "walls, inbox, pages" or whatever it is that they are called. Research shows that, the kind of effect that a warm hug, a kind touch or an understanding pair of eyes have can never be duplicated by reading a message off your digital screens. Instead of feeling belonged, the person may even tend to feel more alienated and thus fall prey to depression.

  • Social Networking sites are totally useless......

This statement is fully supported.Students as well as children, instead of going out to get some physical exercise, stay homeon the computers on so called FB and just chat for the whole day. They all, including us need for broaden our horizon and think over this very carefully.....Can social networking sites can be useful in Any way????Can they change our Lives completely!!!! They can..Our perceiving sight sense would be destroyed!!

  • As said by others.

I can't say anything new, because most of solid arguments were said here. So I'm just supporting the idea of epidemic infection with this evil that destroys common sense human relationships and humanic life style. Especially among young people who nowadays have such strange way of social interaction and way of thinking. All because of harmful Facebook abuse and such.

  • While it has its uses, the primary way people use social networking is not beneficial

Social networking is great for staying in contact with those that one does not have a chance to see, however, the way that people most use Facebook and other sites is not for this reason as shown in the research conducted by PEW Research Center. Social media has developed into a method to satisfy narcissism, particularly among teens who average over 350 friends on Facebook. There is in fact, a well studied physiological limit to the number of people one can have close relationships with due to the size of the neo-cortex, known as Dunbar's Number, with is between 100 and 200 depending on the individual. This directly shows that with the number of friends or followers a person has exceedingly this limit dramatically, the majority of these people or not those one truly friends with, but one with whom to satisfy their narcissism.

  • Is this a way to live?

Wasting hours and hours a month on websites that do not benefit us in ANY WAY is degrading our way of life. We should be trying to expand our knowledge, connect with people, and do something active...Rather than talking to someone from Japan about puppies, playing flappy bird rather than doing homework, or sitting there looking at Grumpy Cat rather than doing something active to keep ourselves healthy.

  • Social networking is not helping

Well, the people now all say:"Do you have Facebook/Twitter/Weibo etc etc,I would like to add u as my friend...."I can say that is all fine and dandy but what happened to newspapers, radios and TV?It did just fine in the time of our grandparents so why not now?TIME FLIES u know, fist time u r looking at the time and it is 11.00 but the next second we look at it it's 8.00 at night and you have blown away a whole day that you can make much benefit out of by looking on a boring computer screen with who knows what on it.We do not realize that we are actually wasting time sitting in a tight-fitting place while looking at a small screen compared to the much more wider screen just a step out side the gates of your home(except if your house is not a house it is a flat well that i can not help).People dont realize they can blow away their whole lives just in front of a tiny screen just as i said just now,If u really appreciate your life you would rather do something more valuable.Besides, not everything is true on the internet. Some people dont even know what they are writing on the web but they write because they think there is nothing better to do.Students at school mumble and grumble about boring classes, lousy teachers but once the teacher speaks about the internet they look full of energy and ready to talk nineteen to the dozen about this topic.People say it is much more easier to stay in touch, yes i agree but except for typing back and forth it is nothing more. People who seldom go on internet and have a conversation there shall easily feel the difference between real time interaction and typing back and forth. Nevertheless, people would rather have a conversation on the internet than having a conversation face to face.

  • Social networking is not beneficial

1.The Internet is a weapon far more dangerous than bacteria that can kill a person in two ways:
A)People lose their face interaction with people
B)People shut themselves in their own rooms and refuse to come out to communicate with real people
Take for example the youth that died because of going online for a time of 23 hours without stopping. That is far more off the limit the body can take.

  • It places pressure on your shoulders - Mental Stability

Although social networking can help you feel associated to a larger society and helps keep you updated, such simple, casual connection in an electronic environment can also have it's downside. Signing up to social media, getting involved, and obtaining a safe reputation can put a lot of pressure on an individual, this individual could possibly be you. People expect cool statuses, images that will get a lot of likes, and if you post something that offends someone or it isn't cool, a lot of things can go downhill rapidly. So that's why teenagers stress over the maintenance of their account and it puts a lot of pressure on their shoulders which could be the beginning of anxiety and depression. This can also lead to your mental stability being at risk.

  • It is detrimental to healthy communication between individuals

See i feel healthy purposeful communication happens when people share information that both parties are interested in or when people are sending each other heartfelt greetings. Social media although might help in this sort of communication is more often being used for unhealthy disbursement of information. When you are in a social media you are even without you wanting it getting involved in a lot of conversations others are having. Any conversation you get involved in even as a passive listener where no information of your concern is exchanged is nothing less than disturbing. By the intrinsic nature or the way social media are made you are lured into conversation that should not matter to you. You end up waiting wasting a whole lot of your time listening to other people nattering. Some of this could robe your time even after the conversation is over as an aftermath. So according to my thinking you should communicate only if you need to and to only those you want to. Every other communication is a waste of time and resource. You might as well use that time in a more productive way. Read newapapers for news. Enjoy your food rather than working up your appetite looking at your friend's dessert. Watch your favourite shows rather than poring over your friends' opinions about the same

  • With social media, someone can hide behind a false veil of protection while they attack an inecoent person

Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying.
More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyberthreats online.
Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet.
Well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying occurs. And no one can find out about it

  • No! No! No!

I think that this is bad for our society because it keeps kids inside when they can go outside and enjoy their fresh air that some kids don't get everyday. This is also bad because this can facilitate cyber bullying in their school and community. So as you can see, social networking is bad for the society.

  • No! No! No!

I think that this is bad for our society because it keeps kids inside when they can go outside and enjoy their fresh air that some kids don't get everyday. • Dis-advatages of social networks

Social networks will be also dangerous for some people by log in for example face book, twitter etc ... They harm us..By doing fake friends and asking our personality and ask our phone number and come and make a trap or kind ape us.. That is why social network is bad for us...

  • Communication? No, I don't think so.

Social networking actually jeopardizes communication by not allowing face-to-face communication, which will destroy communication when we finally meet the person in real life. Bonds are difficult to establish through social websites, as psychology proves that people build relationships through direct and face-to-face interaction. Also, social networking destroys the art of letter writing, which is essential in practicing languages. Gone are the days when people put a lot of thought into writing letters for their loved ones. There is no thought put into messages sent through social network sites nowadays.

  • It damages our eyes

It will damage our eyes. And it can cause many bad things .If we use twitter face book ect. We will get specks . We should not sit for a long time .We can get head pain. There has to be lots of network so that we can work on it .

  • I don't think they are good.

Because it distracts us and we get addicted to it so much that we don't even do our work in time. I think its good for people above 18. But at the same time, it is a good site to share our views. It just depends on our way of using it.

  • No. It's Damaging

It has done way more harm than good. It was always supposed to be a good idea, for people to communicate with each other, but that's why we have phones, emails, and Skype. People become addicted to social medias, there's cyber-bullying, and the whole thing has gotten out of hand. There are hundreds of news article about the damages of social media...

  • Dangerous for people

It is so unsafe as many people die from cyber bulling through social networking as they commit suicide. People can find out your personal information. They can hack your account. There is no way of knowing who you are talking to. It also prevents people from physically socialising with people instead of over the internet. It also affects children's education

  • The most ridiculous thing ever created

Well,if you say that social networking sites creates a contact with everyone and the outer world .Then well which outer world do you mean? Your friends who meet you daily or whom you call each week or a stranger sitting at other corner of the world who just wants to do a little time pass with you, huh? This is just the most strangest thing ever or do you say that these keep you awake to the news around? So which news are you talking about? The lady gossips or the latest break-ups ,huh?

  • Distraction to people

Social networking should not be a major concern as it distracts people. Especially kids who should be focusing on their education are instead on facebook or ask.Fm all the time. It is unhealthy and will turn our environment into obese people. Everyone should focus on their real life instead of their online life

  • Social Networking Site the worst thing inworld

Today’s society is faced with the continually growing problem of electronics and social media. What used to be considered a precious treasure is now the cause of teenage obesity, lack of concentration, inadequate communication, and above all a far less intellectual society. Cell phones, internet, video games, television all have taken over the youth in society and corrupted them into unimaginative, unqualified, dull robots. Facebook is merely a tool to drain the intelligence from teenagers until they are forced to speak in instant messaging jargon- LOL, OMG, TTYL. Twitter is a mechanism for teenagers to become hermits, living in their rooms updating their statuses every two minutes. Video games and television suck imagination from children’s minds, their eyes becoming plastered to a small pixel screen, their stationary bodies molded into the couch cushions. To stop a calamity like this from happening, there is only one option- abolish electronics and social media completely. If humanity can wipe away everything with batteries, plugs, and wires, people will become a more intellectual, responsive, exciting species on earth.
With government involvement, electronics and social media can easily be wiped away from the planet. Laws can be created making any form of electronics or social media illegal. This would include phones, game systems, and the computer. Batteries can be melted down and broken down parts dumped into land fills. Those found carrying any form of electronics or social media will be given the benefit of the doubt- this is a justice based society- and be given a warning, but the next encounter with technology could lead to life in prison or death. The banning of electronics and social media will create a safer society- less accidents and less health problems. 20/20 Eye sight will quickly increase since children are not staring at screens for hours on end, and driving will become a leisure experience when drivers aren’t dodging busy people on cell phones swerving into the adjacent lanes. The obesity rate for children will be brought down to acceptable levels because there will be no more televisions to watch while a child stuffs his or her face with potato chips. People will be able to laugh out loud not LOL and ROFLing will be no more; if people want to roll on the floor and laugh, they can do so without being constrained to a tedious text message, IM, tweet, or wall post. Teenagers will have to look at a person when talking to them not text or chat, allowing society’s youth to become far better communicators. There will be no more sneaking into the girl’s bathroom to text your BFF about the cute boy that you <3 so much, no more hiding cell phones beneath laps when your teacher thinks you are doing algebra homework. Students will not have to take out a calculator to know five times two equals ten or look on spark notes to understand that Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet, all in all,

  • Using social media can harm job stability and employment prospects.

Job recruiters reported negative reactions to finding profanity (61%), poor spelling or grammar (54%), illegal drugs (78%), sexual content (66%), pictures of or with alcohol (47%), and religious content (26%) on potential employees’ social media pages. Anthony Weiner, former US Representative, was forced to resign after a Twitter sexting scandal in 2011. Several athletes were banned from the 2012 Olympics because of their racist social media posts.
51% of people aged 25-34 accessed social media while at work. Two-thirds of US workers with Facebook accounts access the site during work hours. Even spending just 30 minutes a day on social media while at work would cost a 50-person company 6,500 hours of productivity a year. 51% of American workers think work productivity suffers because of social media.

  • Social Media can hurt and be false

I think it is bad because 49.1% of people are reading false news. On September 5th 2012 false rumors of fires, shootout and caravans of gunmen in Mexico city suburb spread via twitter and face book caused panic, flooded the local police department with over 3000 phone calls and temporary closed schools.

  • Social media can hurt

I believe that social networking sites hurt students. 49.5% of students are being reported that they are victims of cyber bulling. This means that kids will be more scared to go to school or worse also 33.7% reported students committing cyber bulling. 800,000 minors were harassed or cyber bullied on Facebook June last year.

  • Social media is Crime Central.

Social media sites are a place people can talk about planning crimes without anyone realising a bout it. Even though police can find them with thwese sites it would be to late because the crime would have allready happened. Many people wander these sites withoutm realising that someone is about to breakinto a house because of the site that they have been on.

  • Isn't even beneficial.

Social networking sites are not beneficial for our society because it is a waste of time for students. Students who are heavy social media users tend to have lower grades. Students who use social media had an average GPA of 3.06 while non users had an average GPA of 3.82. Social networking sites facilitate cyberbullying which can lead to suicide. Social media is a bad thing for our society.

  • What a time waster!

Because it is a time waster. 40% of 8-18 year olds spend 54 minutes a day on social media sites. 36% of people surveyed listed social networking as the "Biggest waste of time" above fantasy sport (25%) , watching TV (23%) , and shopping (9%). According to a Feb. 9, 2012 Pew internet report. 15% of adult social network users had an experience on a social networking site that caused a friendship to end, 12% of adult users had an experience online that resulted in a face-to-face argument, and 3% of adults reported a physical confrontation as the result of an experience on a social networking site.

  • They are antisocial

I believe social networking sites are not beneficial to our way of, because researches found that the percentage of people reporting less face-to-face time with family in homes rose from 8% in 2000 to 34% in 2011. 2/3 of teachers believe that social media does more to distract students than to help them academically.

  • We dont need these nettworking sites for our children.

These sites can be bad or good, but I think mostly bad. There is some dodgy people out there that cyber bully and no one can catch them and these sites can arose depression that can lead to committing suicide, do we want that? Facebook and other networking sites becomes addictive and then it controls your life and you have to keep checking your messages. Do we want that? I know my answer.

  • Its not vital, and its just stupid

We have lasted generations without social media- why start now! It wastes time, it lowers productivity, and its just generally bad. To all those people who think it improves relationships- you're wrong. It can wreck them, and although it might be acceptable to use it very sparingly, what we do today is way to much.

  • Totally a curse for people

Social networking sites have ruined the minds of the youth,
the word TRUST has disappeared completely from the lives of people.
We cannot judge a person completely unless we interact with them in real life and face to face.
Social networking sites are the reason why people are betrayed and lose their trust.

  • Social Awkward Capabilities Growing

People become more antisocial. This means that when we have interviews for jobs or just speaking face-to-face will become obsolete. This is creating a socially-awkward environment. Granted, we are communicating, but communicating entails that we are speaking to other people. Body language gets thrown out of perspective because we aren't actually communicating in a face-to-face environment. The irony in that I'm posting something against social networking is funny, but those who use social networking consistently aren't getting the same important social standings as those who don't. More people who delve into social networking sites tend to be more socially awkward because of their inability to connect with others without a computer, phone, or tablet in their face. Yes, social networking does prove essential to us speaking isn't an ability, but it is heightening our incapability to speak to each other with cognitive sentences.

  • It takes away the human value.

We are no longer communicating face to face and therefore I believe that everything that is said over these sites, does not have any value. It takes away the human value/emotion that is brought with the message. No one writes letters anymore. If someone writes a letter now it is considered thoughtful and kind. Because that person has taken the time and effort to send it.

  • Always time wasting

As you know these days social networking sites like facebook just are good for wasting the time and no thing more. Also these sites are so adective which make you to wast your time more and more.
You always search about some thing more than what it is but there is the same thing that it was.

  • People will easily be cheated by strangers

Strangers who wants to cheat someone, they can use fake information to attract the person. This issue can lead to cyber crime. Social networking is used for good purpose but nowadays teenagers seriously involving in cyber crime which can lead to crimes. Crimes that can happen is rape, kill people, robbery and so on.

  • Totally a waste of time

I think its a waste of time for students because the time which they waste in chatting with their friends or doing anything , can be consumed in studies . By using social networking sites children are actually being exposed to vulgar things which are not meant for their age.

  • Waste of time to children

Waste of time It it plays a a very crucial role in damaging our life through many means like we are many at times emotionally attached with some of our friends and due to some misconceptions our day to day relations with them are destroyed so in my view we must ban them .

  • It is not beneficial to students

Because it only a destruction to their studies..They also learned from it bad values that influence them and apply that bad values in their daily life and had a bad image that cause to have an enemy..It also makes them to express something immediately without thinking it carefully and makes them OA sometimes..

  • Waste of time

It it plays a a very crucial role in damaging our life through many means like we are many at times emotionally attached with some of our friends and due to some misconceptions our day to day relations with them are destroyed so in my view we must ban them .

  • To many Cons to outweigh the Pros.

Social networking is not beneficial to our society for numerous reasons. First, society abuses social networking to point of addiction. Society allows social networking to run their life. Many people could spend hours looking through information that does not affect their life in any way, shape, or form. Social networking as a form of communicating is preferred over face to face contact, which a is a really sad sign of our future. Finally, social networking poses many safety and security threats. Anyone can find you and sensitive information, which could lead to stolen identities.

  • Social Networking is not Beneficial

Social networking is distracting and very time consuming inside and outside of school. It causes unnecessary drama and conflict in the lives of people involved. Most people do not use social media for what it was designed for. Too much information sometimes causing identity theft. There are some predators out there that may take advantage of people who don't protect their information.

  • We have decided these are generally bad

While these sites can be great for keeping in contact with old friends and family, knowing birthdays, and keeping track of activities, we were able to generate a giant list of horrible cons. Many people get sucked in and waste otherwise productive time trolling and sharing too much information. It creates drama when people overreact to seemingly harmless posts. It is difficult to judge the tone of written language and misinterpretation is rampant. There are also cases of fake profiles used by predators and the danger of getting hacked. Other people can also expose you even if you don't participate on these sites by posting information or pictures that would have otherwise been private. These sites are generally crap and we think they totally suck.

  • Social Networking and Posting

Our group believes that social networking sites are not beneficial to our way of life. We understand that freedom of speech is essential and staying connected is essential, but the problem rests on the individuals who use them. People post vague insults and comments without stating names and this creates an atmosphere of generalizations where people don't own what they say. There is safety in not looking someone in the face and that creates a feeling that leads to negative, accusatory posts. Sarcasm is often used as an "excuse" for the real intent of harsh words. The sites are harmless. The individuals who use them are the issue.

  • Social Media Is Very Harmful

Ever seen just how many people are walking around tweeting, messaging, or even just talking on their phones? Not that many people are even interacting anymore. Now, social media is good for messaging to meet for dinner or play golf with your brother, but do we really need to be posting every two minutes? Anyway, that's my two cents.

  • Eliminates the human aspect of life

Social sites make it easier for a person to hide behind means words. Striking a keyboard or texting on a phone allows you to be less conservative in your words. These sites also allow individuals to be disruptive and trashy to their family and "friends" which I put in quotes because a person on the otherside of a computer you've never met is not a friend they are a person in hiding because they are unable to talk to real people

  • Social Media Destroys Multiple Lives

In my country, almost everybody has at least one account, may it be on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Youtube and other sites I haven't mentioned. I have many friends on facebook and one thing I have noticed is that a lot of people say things about other people. More often times than not, it is bad things. Pictures and taunting words are used against people and they don't even bother hiding it. How many videos have been posted on Youtube of a kid committing suicide because of bullying? How many videos of porn are there online? How many rumors have been spread on the different networking sites? Tell me, just how many lives and innocent minds are being destroyed by just one wrong click? How many people are currently facing their computer cameras, telling their sad stories and then killing themselves? Open your eyes please. I admit, Social Sites help a lot, but don't you think that the bad points out weight the good ones? It's so sad and sickening that people would do the things they're doing now online. The world of Social Media has changed reality, and I dare say that it is not for the better good. This is just my opinion, I'm not saying that Social Media is bad and should be banned from our world, but when using the web, can we please keep in mind that there are other people using the web, too? It's just sad and very sickening that humans would stoop that low. Truthfully, I pity all of those people posting bad things because then they'll be known as bad influences and, sooner or later, karma will be doing what it does best.

  • Social networking are bad

Remove the anonymity behind these sites. If someone has something to say, then ensure that they cannot hide behind (supposed) anonymity. That would not restrict freedom of speech, it would not prevent or limit people expressing their views, but it would eliminate the extreme, illegal, cowardly verbal attacks. These sites should indeed actively promote freedom of speech and ideas, but they should not provide even the perception of immunity from acting illegally.

  • Are social networking sites generally beneficial to our way of life?

They can put young children in harmful situations with unknown users that may want to come in contact with the other person which will put them in a situation to not defend themselves in which they may seriously be abused. Social networking sites can be a beneficial resource to contribute to society but people must be careful what they do on the web. Stay clean!

  • Constant Comparison with others

Let’s face it, we all look at each other’s social networking sites, admiring clothes, lifestyles and even relationships. More than often wishing that our lives were as great as others. But when it comes down to it, people mostly tend to share only the glittering highlights from their lives, deliberately leaving out the dull ones. We usually don’t post about our boring nights at home, rocky relationships or lack of financial stability. However this is not taken into consideration when people start comparing their lives to others and instead end up feeling miserable which can at times even lead to low self-esteem, and depression

  • Waste of time

Waste of time. The popularity of social media is running rampant. There are over 300 million users worldwide on Facebook alone. The question is asked, “Does social media benefit society?” Social networks can be very useful at times, but in today’s society it has been overused and corrupted. Since social media has been corrupted, it has lead way for bullies and sexual predators to invade the lives of thousands, for teenagers to find more ways to misuse time, and although it is said to reduce risk of health problems social networking is known to cause brain disorders in children. The dangers of social media outweigh the benefits.
Social networking sites have no way to identify sexual predators and bullies. This makes it easier for predators to mask their true identities. Myspace revealed 90,000 sexual predators on their site, as of 2009. Facebook declined to reveal how many predators it had invading people’s privacy. These websites also makes cyber-bullying, a kind of bullying that takes place online, easier and more public. In 2009 study found that 17.3 percent of middle school aged teenagers were victims of cyber-bullying. These students experienced drops in grades, lowered self-esteems, in some cases suicide, and other symptoms of depression.

Social media encourages teens to spend more time networking and less time face to face. As of 2009, teenagers spent an average of nine hours a week misusing time on social media. As of July 2012 Americans spent 74 billion minutes networking on a computer and 41 billion minutes networking on applications for a total of 115 billion minutes on social networking sites, and 42 percent of Americans play games such as Farmville or Mafia Wars on social networking sites. Most of this time is misused by teenagers getting their friends, friends of their friends, and friends of their friend’s friend’s, to conjure up a couple thousand ‘Likes’ for their page, or whatever it may be.
Even though studies have shown that social networking has a positive impact on society, including reduction of risk of health problems, improved stroke recovery and memory retention, social media also causes many health defects. Such as, “personality and brain disorders in children, the inability to have real conversations, limited attention spans, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, and self-centered personalities” (4, Are Social networking sites good for our society?). While the positive impact of social media only reduces the risk of health problems, it has been proven to cause said health defects. The dangers in the overused social media clearly outweigh the benefits in reference to human health.
Social networking can be a great thing, but in today’s society it is overused and abused. Bullies and sexual predators have invaded lives of thousands, teenagers have misused time, and social networking is known to cause health defects. The dangers of social media are more damaging and long lasting than the benefits. As social networking sites become more popular and used, today’s society must be aware of it’s benefits as well as it’s negatives and dangers.

  • Just time wasting.....

For ex:: using this social networking you can talk with person ( mostly with girls ) , but you can not say even a singal word tto that person when she meett infront of you.....
Then why are trying to do that...If you needd to talk with her, then why not you use one to one communication with her....
Its betterr to talk with her messages and social networking........

  • Not while anonymous

Remove the anonymity behind these sites. If someone has something to say, then ensure that they cannot hide behind (supposed) anonymity. That would not restrict freedom of speech, it would not prevent or limit people expressing their views, but it would eliminate the extreme, illegal, cowardly verbal attacks. These sites should indeed actively promote freedom of speech and ideas, but they should not provide even the perception of immunity from acting illegally.

  • No age limit

I think these social networking sites dont have any age limit because wat i observe is every single child who is really 10 years old is using an account as 20 years old one.!! And instead of doing something good and usefull childrens are just wasting their time on these sites.!! I think these social networking sites are those threats that are deviating today's youth, today's generation from their ambitions and goals!! Because instead of going towards development we are moving towards 'devilopments'..

  • Normally they are worthless

If a person who is using fib or other social sites, is totally aware about privacy, goods and bads of these sites than he/she may get benefits from them otherwise all in vain.
A person who has good will power and determination than he can take advantage of social sites.
So, keep in mind that excess of anything is harmful.

  • Social networking is no more than a trouble

While all websites and internet users are vulnerable to some degree, the openness and oversight provided by the staff of social networking sites, give or take a few situations, ensures a higher degree of safety than might be found elsewhere on the internet. While these sites don't have to take direct responsibility for their users, there's still a higher sense of security than would be found in unchecked e-mail services, instant messengers, and chat rooms full of shady characters; so, to some extent, social networking sites provide all the benefits of other services, such as IM and e-mail, but without the fear of being stalked by a predator or serial killer [though I can't account for the harmless creepers that tend to accumulate on some sites. :)].

  • It creates a distraction.

Social networking entices people to spend more time online and less time interacting face to face. Thus, it encourages time wasting activities and supplants more time wasting activities...Sometimes a wrong sense of security may cause various unwanted activities like hacking, leaking sensitive information etc...It may also create brain disorders in humans like limited attention spans and inability to engage in real life conversations, a need for instant gratification..

  • There's no privacy in the so-called privacy setting.

We are just giving governmental organizations the key to our private life which they use for their own profit. We are not safe at all. Anybody can hack our accounts and download our photos. That is not at all secure. It is just threats and threats everywhere you look around.

  • Reaps more than it sows

People do not weigh how huge of a waste of time any social networking site is. It's a pathetic trend that I fear will never go away. But it needs to because our privacy and freedom is truly at stake and the blind lemmings of the world will continue to be counterproductive for the sake of their fleeting image and inflated sense of self esteem. Not to mention there is an addictive quality to these sites that actual create a need for the user. A reward system is in place and the games encourage you to fill the need. In reality, you're creating lower self worth through endless competition and a sense of anxiety will emerge and hopefully consume the user just the way he/she likes. It's a bloated wasteland of "feed" and everyone's coming around to get a taste of the slop in the trough.

  • They are not beneficial

Social networks are not beneficial because many people lie about who they are. They are addictive and keep people from interacting in face to face situations. Teens who use Facebook more often show more narcissistic tendencies while young adults who have a strong Facebook presence show more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviors, mania and aggressive tendencies.(Rosen, 2011)

Daily overuse of media and technology has a negative effect on the health of all children, preteens, and teenagers by making them more prone to anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders, as well as by making them more susceptible to future health problems. (Rosen, 2011)

Facebook can be distracting and can negatively impact learning. Studies found that middle school, high school and college students who checked Facebook at least once during a 15-minute study period achieved lower grades. (Rosen, 2011)

The debate should be on - is the design & application of social networking sites appropriate or not? Social networking is important. Social networking tools/ platforms are required - sites or gathering. Question is whether these sites offer right and genuine platform. My opinion is - NO.

There are many social networking sites like face book, Orkut, twitter, hi5….One can’t say whether they are beneficial or not. It depends on the nature person using them. The advantage of these networks is people can build social relations among themselves. They can form groups to share their common interests and they can hold discussions on the incidents that are going around. The disadvantage of these sites if we mainly consider the youth is they are more worried about what is happening online. Oh I’ve posted my status… what would be the comments.. How many likes I’ll get. They are spending hours in front of computer instead of building face-to-face relationships. Finally social networking has become a compulsive and automatic behavior in their life. There is possibility of posting controversial comments with intension to cause anger and arguments. So there is both positive and negative impact on youth
