  • I think we are

Although China is powerful, America is more powerful. Even if you use the argument that we owe them a lot of money. Who cares, when were we ever going to pay the debt. Never, thats when. We have even more Western allies, they would be dumb to attack us, or whatever.

  • The Chinese Government is terrible

Tell you the truth, although our GDP is increasing pretty fast, but every people don't trust government. The pollution can kill every americans who want to go to China, this is the most aggressive part for America, I think. If military of america try to invade china, they will be killed by the dust, smoke. PM2.5 etc. China is a huge country, I agree. But absolutely not a powerful country.

  • It's the economy, stupid!

You don't need to have an excessive knowledge of economics to know the west and china are linked too far for one to be aggressive to the other. Hell, China's a major mediator between the US and North Korea too!

In terms of international relations, define "safe". The US population isn't ever entirely physically safe from anyone. There's always ways countries can hurt each other, the key isn't power, it's diplomatic/strategic aims. Even I f the US continues to try to encircle china in SE Asia and the pacific, it's never going to end with a fight, let alone danger to western citizens. The us is just not being belligerent enough to cause a war, nor is china.

If you mean in terms of world power standing, china COULD depose the US as premier world power. Oh well. That is still unlikely.

  • China replacing US in 2021

According to the recent article from Economist, China will become the wealthiest nation in the world by 2021 by nominal GDP. Where US and many other western economy is heading into another recession, which they are clearly not ready for. China has initiated projects such as Silk Road to begin the trades with Central Asian countries as it moves on to its transition into a consumer based economy. In other words, China is America's greatest threat, but could also be America's greatest opportunity.

  • Hmm probably not

No, the USA owes China 1.3 TRILLION dollars. If china were to stop being generous and ask for the money back we would be screwed. China would stop importing goods, they might stop communication with the US entirely then where would we be, in an economic crisis where we have no money because china stopped lending it to us, and we would not have most of the food we have today, so no i dont think so.

  • China is linked with the rest of the world

While Someone else is making the point that the "military threats" from China. I really doubt that will be the case. As M.A.D. Is still in effect. If anything is China connection with world market. If china were to collapse that will sent waves of devastating economic problems across the world. My argument is that China is so connected with the rest of the world that any economic problems in China would be more damaging/likely to US than any military aspect. The same concept can be applied with the EU and USA. No country that's connected with the world economy is "safe".

  • No, China is very powerful.

No, we are not safe from China, because China is extremely powerful. China is large nation. They have committed many human rights abuses and still imprison many people for political reasons. It is unfair to let down our guard where China is a large and powerful nation, with enough money to effectuate military force if it wants to.
