  • Really America? Really?

It is ridiculous to claim that animals are happier in the wild. Almost all the animals in zoos are rescues that are awaiting release or animals that are common enough to make its removal from the natural environment not harmful. Also zoos sponsor capture and breeding programs, and they can also keep species alive.

  • Animals are not humans

You do not need to be an expert to see that animals are not intellectuals. They rely on instinct to make it through their lives, while humans use our heads (Not all of us it need to though "They is bad") Humans are doing what they believe right and maintaining a population of animals in zoos for both the animals and us.

  • Zoos are good!

I think that zoos are good for the animals. It is a safe, natural place for them to live. It can even help endangered species, such as the California condor, get back to a non endangered species. In conclusion, zoos are a good place for the animals to happily live.

  • Zoos are good

Zoos allow us to research the animals. They also give animals extra housing space. The forest is being cut down so zoos are useful. The more we cut down trees the more useful zoos are. When we are in the future we will thank our selves tat we built zoos.

  • There Should be a Criteria

I believe that zoos are good and bad. On the good side I believe that without zoos that many of the animals we enjoy today would not be here. Such as Pere David's deer, black-tailed ferret, and many others. First of all, to those that would argue we are the problem and we should have education to these people. That is all great but there is really not enough money to do this. Next, should animals really be kept in cages to which studies have shown that these animals have psychological fears, boredom, depression etc. NO. They should not they should have large amounts of enrichment, such as lures on zip lines for cheetahs, and lots of climbing toys for monkey. They should also give them enough room. A great example of this is the White Oak Conservation Center in Florida. Second thing, animals are rarely taken from the wild by zoos today without drawing out large amounts of controversy from not only people but the AZA and WAZA as well. This why not many animals are taken out of the wild today. So in conclusion, I believe that zoos are good when put under checks and balances but zoos that are similar to roadside zoos, well the notion should be abandoned

  • Zoos are beasty beasty

    Really America? Really?

It is ridiculous to claim that animals are happier in the wild. Almost all the animals in zoos are rescues that are awaiting release or animals that are common enough to make its removal from the natural environment not harmful. Also zoos sponsor capture and breeding programs, and they can also keep species alive.

  • Good way to protect species and good source of information about animals

Due to different changes in climatic conditions and many other factors, almost all the species of animals are endangered... Gradually many of the species which were commonly seen around us or in the wild are now becoming extinct because of which our future generations might not be able to see them... Zoos are a very good source of keeping these animals in a protected environment where they can be saved for our future generations.
Moreover the zoos can help in increasing the general information of people about animals by displaying them and can even play a role in acknowledging people about the increasing danger these animals are facing.

  • Why they good

They were breed in captivity. They protect threatened animal and breed endangered animals. They rarely take animals out of the wild. Even though some animals are put in small cages. The endangered ones would be gone by now, and i bet you they'd rather be in the zoo then dead.

  • Zoos do more good than you think.

Most animals in zoo's are born in the zoo and can fend for themselves out in the wild. Zoos also rescue animals from pollution and severe storms. Zoos play a key part in preventing extinction. Zoos educate the public. Scientist learn about wild animals from zoo animals. Zoos provide the same resources to the animal as if it were in the wild. Animal research is important, it helps animals live longer with less chance of going extinct.

  • Zoos do good!

Zoos save many endangered animals that would not have survived in the wild. People say that putting them in a cages is bad, but zoos do not put them in cage. They are in large enclosures that provide them with enough space to do most of what they could do in the wild. Also, farms, industrial businesses, and even human habitats tear apart the habitat of many animals. Zoos take those animals in and provide them with a safe place to live. I could go on forever on why zoos are good, but those are some points that stick out to me.

  • Yes it is

Because zoos provide life for those in the wild who are about to have cubs but can't hunt for food because their babies will get took by another animal. In zoos the food is already there for them and their babies are well looked after by the staff. Also if the animals have hurt themselves or aren't feeling well they get attention straight away.

  • Zoos help alot

-zoos can take in invasive species so the dont kill the ecosystem and they dont have to be killed instead.
-zoos can breed endangerd animals like the pheonix zooo operation oryx, but wont have the chance of them getting poached.
-zoos can feed the animals but in the wild they have a chance of not getting a meal
-zoos can nurse young animals without the chance of them getting eaten by bigger animals.
-zoos can take care and put animals in bad shape back to normal.
-zoos can educate humans about the animals and put them up close face to face also.

  • Zoos help animals and humans

-zoos can keep endangered and breed them with no chance of them getting poached.
-zoos can help a human learn about the animals that they never knew about and get them face to face with each other.
-zoos can feed the animal insted of the having a chance not having food in the wild.
-zoos can take in invasive species so the dont have to destroy the land or get killed any more.

  • Animals need help too! Murica does dat

Animals need help. So, 'Murica does dat! We can do anything to help animals! So, if we cancel out zoos there will be a dropout in economy! We are doing something to help! Not destroy! We can help the animals that are going extinct! So zoos are good for economy and wildlife!

  • Zoos are good!

I think that zoos are good for the animals. It is a safe, natural place for them to live. It can even help endangered species, such as the California condor, get back to a non endangered species. In conclusion, zoos are a good place for the animals to happily live.

  • Zoos save animals

Most zoos nurse young and old animals back to health, and without zoos I think most of the animals we have now would be extinct. Zoos educate humans about the importance of throwing trash away and taking care of our planet. -Zoos are also good entertainment for kids and parents-I needed Nine more words

  • Really? Obvious Answer!

People need to think about how many endangered species there are, and how many extinctions there are about to be. When an animal is in a zoo it is taken away from the poachers, not having a habitat, and being extinct. Zoos are good for endangered species because they get bred and find mates.

  • Zoos save all kinds of animals

Zoos save all kinds of animals, but save endangered animals the most. When endangered animals are in the wild, they go through a LOT of stress and rough times. If these animals get a disease, they can't cure it and that animal will most likely pass away. Also, animals have to hunt for food, putting them through much stress and harm. When they are I zoos, they can get medicine for disease and food. Even though they don't get the best food, they get something that will let them live a long and successful life.

  • Zoos help save endangered animals

If we didn't have zoos, we wouldn't have any of the endangered animals we had today. Zoos give these animals food and shelter. I admit they don't get the best, but atleast they get some. Out in the wild they have to get their own food, (which is very difficult) and wastes time and effort. If they can't catch the animal they could die from stress or starvation. At least endangered animals can live successfully in zoos

  • Zoos Are helpful

Zoos provide a habitat for animals who's habitat is getting destroyed. Humans are not super robots, and they are trying their hardest to save animals. I do agree it is not good to have animals in cages, but a little shelter is better than none. Zoos have also save a ton of endangered species on the brink of extinction.

  • Save the animals

Hundreds, if not thousands of abused animals are recued by zoos and brought back to good health. Not only do zoos save exotic animals from death but also bred them to bring back that species. According to Animal Planet, the Los Angeles and San Diego Zoos were able to rebuild the population of California condor vulture from two dozen to about 170 birds. Zoos have improved greatly over the years and are still today. With the help of the public, we can fix the broken relationship between human and animal.

  • Zoos are good

Zoos help endangered animals. Endangered animals will probably will die on there own. Zoos will treat them and breed them and they won't be endangered anymore. They also will heal them if they're hurt and treat them with respect. I don't understand how people think zoos are bad. They help animals in need.

  • Zoos aren't as bad as many people portray them to be.

There are a large number of people here claiming that, for example, 'zoos are evil', 'zoos are hell', etc. That, in my opinion, is just plain ignorance. The vast majority of zoos care and nurture the animals in an ethical and humane environment. The majority of animals also can't be set free because it's very likely that they were born into captivity initially so would have no understanding of the wild. They are domesticated in a sense. There are also many regulations in place to prevent the mistreatment of animals in zoos. So, overall, zoos are incredibly safe places for an animal to be in.

  • A zoo is a safe and good enviroment for animals!

•Firstly Zoos keep animals safe from Animal poachers---and by bringing people and animals together, zoos have the potential to educate the public about conservation issues and inspire people to protect animals and their habitat. It is a safe, natural place for them to live. It can even help endangered species, such as the California condor, get back to a non endangered species.

  • Zoos Are Good

Zoos do good! Zoos save many endangered animals that would not have survived in the wild. People say that putting them in a cages is bad, but zoos do not put them in cage. I could go on forever on why zoos are good, but those are some points that stick out to me.

  • Zoos can be good!

People who say that zoos are all bad are wrong. Sure, they COULD treat them better than SOME zoos treat their animals, and I TOTALLY get how animals suffer from being in an enclosed area, but zoos can SAVE THE LIVES of endangered animals, repopulate their species, and set them free. Zoos CAN be good, but they need the chance to be good

  • Zoos are like pet owners

Think of the zoo as if it were a pet owner and the zoo was a pet. Pets live under most of the same conditions as the animals in the zoos so I don't understand what is wrong with keeping animals in zoos. If you think that keeping animals in zoos is wrong then you must not agree with keeping pets in households. Pet owners give their pets lots of affection and I'm sure many zookeepers do the same for their pets. And did u know that more than 65% of all Canadians have pets in their household? And I know you are probably thinking that pets must be allowed to do whatever they want but zoo animals cannot , but you're wrong. I'm sure that most, if not all, pet owners keep their pets in cages when needed. So if u look at all sides Zoo animals are actually treated very well.

  • Zoos are great

They save animals from places thats caring. I think zoos are good like London zoos amazing and chessington zoo. They also give animals more of a chance of living and they a save from other animals that could eat them and most zoos are very good and the animal are happy

  • Think BIg People

AN endangered animal. ONly two left. Many prededtors. Zooz help breed them so they can thrive. If they leave them out they can die out. If you could save animal, would you? Even if you had to take it in to your own house and feed it and care for it? Well thats a zoo.

  • Zoos are not bad

Zoos are not bad. In fact they have great qualities for the animals, and humans alike. I believe that zoos have a bad reputation. That they are cages for captured animals, or that they lonely prisons. I will explain why this reputation should be diminished.

Zoos are often seen as cruel and terrible places for animals to live. They are commonly associated with animal abuse, and mistreatment. While humans do mistreat animals and abuse their privilege of working with magnificent animals. This is not the case for most zoos. In fact, they help animals by giving them a good life. They do this by giving appropriate feeding habits and maintaining a natural balance. This is done by simulating the animal's natural environment. Proper care of the animal is also a big deal. If an animal becomes sick, all the help that can be offered to the animal is given. Often cases of zoos providing help is giving disabled or ‘cast out” animals a home. Or by nurturing young animals who have lost their mother or father. Until the animal is able to function by itself effectively it will remain in the care of the zoo. Modern day zoos are rewriting their names by helping animals in need.

Zoos help animals, but a lot of helping goes to humans too. Understanding is knowing for humans. When humans are taught about animals, whereas they would be ignorant to the beautiful wildlife on earth, a new way of thinking is established. This teaches caring, and sparks interest in wildlife. Bringing wildlife that would once be unknown to most people, to large populations is a great way to teach about life on earth. When you go to a zoo, you can take away information on animals, life, proper care of animals, and a new understanding of the amazing animals that surround us all.

Along with helping humans, zoos also spread awareness. Many conservation efforts are always going on to help endangered animal species. While zoos act as a refuge for endangered animals. They spread awareness on the animals that are in the zoo. Habitats are being destroyed due to pollution, construction, human error, and natural disasters. Zoos teach what we can do differently to inform us all about how we can help animals.
Zoos are a positive way to introduce the beauty of the world to those who can not see it. Animals are important for all life on earth, we all rely on each other. Animals, humans and the earth altogether. Zoos bring a sanctuary to those animals in need. They give information to the public about awareness. They help animals recover from illness and disability. Zoos nurture the babies of a dead mother. Now I ask you, do you think zoos are bad?

  • Yes yes yes

Zoos are good because people need to see animals to better educate the brain's knowledge of the subject of matter in this debate. Animals get taken care of and endangered animals wont die off as fast. Or not die at all. The animals also dont have to hunt for food.

  • Zoo should close.

I think animals should be free and live there life . People can protect them by stopping hunter from killing them.People should care for them but not keep animals in zoos. Animals might get to stess out and died.Zoos should close down zoos but still watch them. So let the animals go.

  • ZOOs are really good places.

First of all, zoos provide animals as much food and water that they want/need Even though animals get an artificial environment, they still get a big place to stay. Animal has decreasing numbers because they are left out in the wild with very little food and water. In the wild, there are tons of prey lurking...Waiting to attack that animal at anytime. Zoos make sure that those animals are not being hunted down. Animals also get free health care from vets/doctors to help them maintain great health and a longer life.

  • Protect Endangered Animals

Animals are beautiful creatures and people are interested in them. Another reason is that many animals are going extinct in the wild because of selfish, zero-hearted people. When animals are in zoos, some of those animals can be repopulated so the next generation and the generation after that can know about those animals themselves.

  • Do more good than harm

Zoos typically take in animals that can no longer live on their own out in the wild. They take in animals that have been rescued from circuses or have been injured. They don't take animals from the wild anymore. Zoos also help try to stop animals from going into extinction or being considered for the endangered list. They try to breed animals that are going extinct out in the wild. Yes, I admit that some zoos aren't in the best condition but these animals wouldn't be able to survive in the wild. If they dropped off those animals off into the wild, they wouldn't survive. So zoos give them a home. Zoos do so much for animals. There is a huge difference between actual zoos and Seaworld and "roadside zoos".

  • Zoos are not very good

I do not see why you people think zoos are good for animals. Yes they are fed, and token care of, but seriously? YOU THINK ITS GOOD FOR ANIMALS TO BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEIR HOME?! Do animals ever return to their homes again and LIVE for longer than a few days? Its basicly ANIMAL PRISON!!!!!

  • Zoos are getting better every day and most people just don't see the benefits zoos have on animals

The reasons we have zoos is for conservation, reproduction, education research and recreation. Most animals aren't just taken from the wild but from breeding programs it helps rebuild population gives homes to abandoned animals and gives scientist a opportunity to conduct research these animals are made sure that they are happy they are given fun activities , this is why i believe that zoos are a pros and help make a better world and help benefit

  • Zoos create opportunity

Although zoos started off as a sole purpose for entertainment, They have evolved to something much better over the years. Zoos don't "cage" animals but they create a wholesome environment for the animal. Making sure the habitat is exactly the same and even better than where the animal had came from. Animals were not just pick in choose from the wild, they were RESCUED. Rescued from being harmed or going to full extinction.

  • Zoos are feasty feasty

They save animals, they rescue them. It is great in life that people care so much. I truly believe that zoos are for the best. Think about it would you rather have a baby lion starve in the jungle or live happily in the zoo. I know my choice, do you?

  • No they are not good!

I do not think zoo's are good for animals because animals should live freely. There is a thing called zoocosis and it makes the animals pace back and forth, and also make them make holes in there skin. There are also in closed spaces at zoo's and they need more space, and there is a zoo that painted a donkey to make it look like a zebra.

  • Good zoos benefit animals

Zoos pretty much exist in this modern day to protect and help endangered species repopulate. Zoos SAVE animals every day.
Animals come to zoos as a result of:
    > Being born in captivity
    > Getting injured in the wild, and brought to zoos so they can have a healthy life in captivity
    > Being rescued from Black Market dealers, Private collectors and those who are illegally keeping animals or decide they can no longer keep them properly.
    > Are in a breeding problem to increase their numbers because otherwise they would go extinct in the wild

Many of the animals in zoos would become extinct otherwise such as Tigers, Amur Leopards, Blue-eyed black lemurs, Ploughshare Tortoises and Scimitar-Horned Onyxs.
Furthermore, and good zoo would give the animals enough space, enough food and care and things to keep them occupied, such as Busch Gardens in Florida, which allows the tigers living there to exercise and keep mentally active.

So, before you start bashing zoos for being cruel to animals, why don't you go to a zoo, or do some research and maybe acknowledge that half of the species you take for granted would be extinct without them.

  • Yes, zoos are good!!!!

We all know that there are some bad zoos and wild life sanctuaries that treat their animals poorly but, zoos are a good thing. Zoos save endangered species by bringing them into a safe environment, where they are protected from poachers, habitat loss, starvation and predators, not to mention but zoos and aquariums are credible to the thousands of lives and endangered species that have been saved.

  • Zoos are good!

Listen up, all you people out there saying that animals are trapped in cages. They're not! Most animals in most zoos are kept in natural habitats that allow them no restraint. Zoos save endangered species and breed them. Many people say that they should be in the wild but guess what? Some zoo animals may be happier in captivity than in the wild because they get more food, more attention, and animals such as elephants do not have a risk of getting shot and poached, so just stop thinking about all the bad things zoos do, and I count 1 reason, and start thinking about what zoos do right because, in the end, being optimistic about them and volunteering can let you see that the zoo animals really do have a good life.

  • Are you insane!

WE ARE TORTURING THESES ANIMALS AND HOW DARE YOU SAY THEY LIKE BEING TAKEN AWAY AS A BABY AND BEING THROWN IN TO EITHER A GLASS, CONCRETE OR IRON CAGE!!! YOU WOULDN'T LIKE IT SO DON'T DO IT TO OTHERS! Even though animals are being bred to "save the species" it doesn't work if you don't send them back to the wild which is the case with many zoos! The cruelty being shown to these animals is real and insane! ~Indonesia’ Surabaya Zoo is the most cruel zoo in the world, With all of their elephants painfully shackled, over 150 pelicans in one cage and starving camels! More than 50 animals have died in the last three months! A giraffe died last year after swallowing 20 kg of plastic bags that were not cleared! A Sumatran tiger’s intestines withered when the zoo kept feeding him formaldehyde-laced meat! One baby elephant had lacerations from three chained legs that did not allow him to move in any direction! The picture to the right is one of many starving camels. Scores of rats have been found in many of the cages! When a giraffe died they built a monument out of its bones as an attraction!
Here is what a hippos’ enclosure looks like! --->
Reports say that 43 animals have died between 15nth July and 17nth of September this year! One female orangutan was chewing on a marker pen that someone threw at her! 18 deer live in one 30 by 30 ft enclosure. This may be the worst zoo but there are many more! One zoos euthanized a healthy baby black bear and stuffed it to show that nature can be cruel!~ You cannot say that this is funny! Its terrible!

  • Yas i love zoos

Zoos have a very positive impact on the environment

Zoo’s help people understand the natural world around them. Zoo’s are very beneficial in helping scientist and biologists. In these closures, zoologists can view and observe the natural behavior of animals and how they react with their environments. Zoo’s are beneficial also in that they allow people to view a wide variety of animals safely. Although it’s great to see animals in their natural habitats, it can be dangerous and time consuming.

Provide refuge for animals that have been affected by environmental changes and abused. Endangered animals can be safe from hunting and poaching. It also helps decrease stress that animals have in fear that they’ll be attacked by predators. Stress can affect animals in many ways, such as disturbing sleeping and growth patterns.

Conservation allows animal populations to grow. The animals in the zoo of the same species can find mates easier and have better, healthier offspring. The offspring can be looked after better than in the wild and have a greater chance at survival in the zoo since staff can help get them the care that they need. Zoos assist animals that have overspecialized adaptations and help them fulfill their needs.
Zoos help animals prevent extinction because they can help to breed the animals and get the population to grow. Eventually when there are more of an at risk species, the zoos can release some of the successfully bred animals into the wild again.

In conclusion, zoos have a very positive impact on the environment because they show people how to take better care of the environment, and see what our carelessness could affect negatively.

  • Zoos support Research

If we are to save many wild species and restore and repair ecosystems we need to know about how key species live, act and react. Being able to study animals in zoos where there is less risk and less variables means real changes can be effected on wild populations with far fewer problems. Knowing say the oestreus cycle of an animal or their breeding rate, or that they

don’t seem to like a crop that’s about to be planted can make a real difference to conservation

efforts and to reduce human-animal conflicts.

  • Zoos are bad for animals inviroment

Zoos are bad for animals because the zoo keepers are torchering the animals and feeding them bad food witch causes the animals to get sick or even have a chance of dieing and they are not happier then they were set free animals should have the right to be set free in to the wild!!!

  • We want zoos

We want to have children to have a good education and let them experience rare animals and learn new things. Yes I do agree that animals have small cages but we can change that so please let us keep the zoos u will be doing a huge favour thank you.

  • Zoos are good

Zoos are really good for you because you get to see ultra rare species such as the black jaguar and black panther. It is able to educate children if they have a topic about the animals. You can see animals from the rainforest away from their natural habitat. That is why I vote yes.

  • They help all animals.

They care for endangered species. Some animals can't find the food they need, like Pandas there food is really hard to find but the zoos give them the right food. As long as we aren't mean to the animals in the zoos they will be very happy being in zoos.

  • Endangered species protection

Most of the endangered animals are at zoos to keep them alive and if we did not have zoos they probably would be all gone. My favourite animal is a Tiger and at school I watched a video and it was so sad because all of the Rain forest was cut down and all of the endangered animals were all gone but because of zoos they stopped that from happening to them.

  • Zoo's save animals from being extinct!

Without zoos that care or animals, species like peacocks, sea lions, elephants, indian tigers, and many more would be extinct. Zoos care for them and make sure they are healthy. Sure they are held in a cage, but they are with family and the cage is made to look like a home, and even not all of them are held in a cage. The cages protect them.

  • They educate the wider community about animals

Imagine if we didn't have zoos. It would be terrible and no one would be educated and know about wild animals. This is why I believe that zoos are a positive addition to our modern day world. So why are people wanting to get rid of zoos? It's a really silly idea. Zoos have great education programs and schools can go to the zoos and learn about the animals which is a great initiative. This is why I believe that zoos should not be taken away and it is okay to keep animals there as long as they are in a good and well maintained habitat and are cared for properly.

  • Zoos are amazing

Zoos protect animals! Have we not forgotten the breeding and research programs which have saved so many lives? Without zoos we would be without the panda, orangutan, and many others.

And BTW many people forget that animals are kept in enclosures, not cages. These are specially made to replicate their natural habitat.

  • Zoos are good

Zoos help animals that are hurt, endangered, or just need a safe home. The Dodo bird extinction were because of people, there were no such thing as a "zoo" at that time. But the Bald Eagle overcome was only 30 years, and the population of bald eagles shot up from 25,000-75,000 all the way to 100,000.

  • Think About This

What if the animal is endangered? And they close the zoos down? Where will the endangered animal go? To get killed and become ext-inked like the dinosaurs? Choose the right side. Make the right choice. It's your choice no one else's but be carful, you don't want to mess things up by choosing the wrong side.

  • Zoo are good because ,

Bringing people and animals together, zoos educate the public and an appreciation of the animals. This exposure and education motivates people to protect the animals.
Zoos save endangered species by bringing them into a safe environment, where they are protected from poachers, habitat loss, starvation and predators.
Many zoos also have breeding programs for endangered species. In the wild, these individuals might have trouble finding mates and breeding.

  • I like zoos.

Zoos are good because they keep animals safe and healthy so they can live longer.Sure they need to roam their land but animals get hunted and killed in the wild in the zoo they are protected. The zoo animals are treated with high class care.Zoos are just amazing to me guys

  • Zoos are awesome...

They are often places for animals to live well and better lives than in the wild. They are cared for and fed well. They save endangered species from the wild. They are in spacious enclosures that look like their natural habitat and give the public a chance to see them

  • Animals live no where near as long in zoos as they do in the wild.

Animals do not deserve to be treated so cruelly as they are in zoos.
The zookeepers disrespect any animal if they do not listen to them, all the flashing lights from cameras can cause animals to go mentally ill, which could result in the animals scratching the cages, trying to attack people, and behaving more irrationally than usually.

  • Zoos Can Help

Zoos are good because they can help endangered animals restore their species. They also support child education. Zoos can teach about how it is important to conserve and protect the wild for the animals' safety. Animals do die in zoos often, but that is part of the circle of life. We can't stop it unless it is meant to be.

  • Zoos can be good

Zoos when done correctly are a great thing. They help animals and great zoos give the correct habitat and exercise the animals need. Of course there are bad zoos which are harmful. So really it's a case by case basis. This talk about freedom is rediculous. Animals main goal is first food then shelter then mating. Zoos give them that. Animals do t care about freedom the concept of freedom
Is foriegn to them. If their pens are good then they are happy.

  • Why zoos are good.

I think zoos should be allowed, seeing as they save the species from going extinct, and provide enough food to last through a whole year, and also provide the essential things they need . The zoos are also educational, allowing all the children to learn about the animals surrounding them

  • Caging animals is wrong.

Keeping other animals locked in cages for our entertainment, or even education, is immoral. They should be allowed to roam their native habitats freely. Imagine being taken from your homeland and living the rest of your life in an enclosed space for the amusement of others. Zoos are completely unethical.

  • I don't like zoos

Animals should not be mistreated just for human entertainment. It is wrong that they are caged because humans want to see exotic animals instead of having to travel to foreign countries. The human mind is programmed to find the simplest way to do something and in this case zoos are the easiest. People should get off their lazy butts and go somewhere.

  • They are cruel and unkind to animals.

They take animals away from their natural habitats, families, packs or neighbors. Although they help save some endangered species, they put them in either the zoo again or the wild, where they are not used to and will probably be killed or eaten by other animals. They also keep the animals in places that are at least 100 times smaller than their habitats in the wild. I rest my case. I disagree with zoos. Thanks for reading this!

  • Don't Forget The Ecosystems

We all can't forget that each animals are part of a ecosystem and if there taken out of it it will ruin that ecosystem they were in. Then if there they taken out of the ecosystem they'll become invasive and it will be hard to capture all of them. Also zoos make animals mate on force, what if they don't want to mate with each other. Also there more ways to keep animals safe. For example they can get protected land and they can also put them in national parks. That is why I believe that zoos are harmful to animals.

  • Zoos torture animals.

Zoos are miserable places for animals. They don't give animals sufficient space. Animals suffer and die in zoos. Zoos are connected to animal circuses where they hurt the animals. Animals are taken from the wild and put in zoos. The animals don't sleep in zoos. Now, the animals aren't allowed to do whatever they want.

  • Zoos are BAD

As much as zoos offer education, they still keep animals caged up so we can laugh at them inside. For example, I took a look at this question and saw a site where it showed animals dying and in need at a ZOO. Some zoos are good, like the Greenville Zoo and the River Banks Zoo. So, zoos are officially bad!

  • Zoos are cruel

On a different site I saw that some body shot animals that had escaped and somebody shot them. Also keeping animals in zoos are things we shouldnt do. For exanple there many other ways to make sure animals stay alive, forexample why not buy prtected land for those animals. Somae ani mals need certain exercise to live. Tyhats why i think we shouldnt haave zoos

  • I think zoos are hamful

I think that zoos are harmful because your puting the animals lives at risk. You are also putting the animals life at risk, the animals have to have a conpanion to like. Even thought zoos can repopulate endangered species it has killed many animals. I also bileave that zoos have overpopulated animals and made human lives harder to like.

  • Zoos are bad

Zoos prevent animals from being in the wild. We use animals for our own good, but i guess it's not really good. Animals are beautiful creatures and we don't want to take way there beauty. People give animals severe distress called zoochosis. So zoo doctors, "vets" give them something called prozac, which is a drug that calms them down. Does this seem fair too you?

  • They are bad

They is bad I think a zoo has its good side which is saving species from extinction. Educating the public and giving them an upclose look is great too. However between tv, youtube, the internet, and documentaries you can get your fill there really imo.

The bad. One youtube video I watched was a gorilla slamming the glass and all the people laughing and pointing. For whatever reason it struck me and I wished that gorilla had broken the glass and attacked those people. It was just sad how we dominate and confine a species so close to himan because we can and because we can make a buck. They is bad I think a zoo has its good side which is saving species from extinction. Imagine being taken from your homeland and living the rest of your life in an enclosed space for the amusement of others. Zoos are completely unethical.

  • No More Zoos

Animals do not deserve to be locked up and looked at. They need to have the freedom to choose where they want to be. They have feelings too. The wild is where they feel at home not locked in metal bars, that's scary for them. They are not just artwork on a wall.

  • Zoos are bad

Zoos are bad because they could be fed the wrong food! There is a zoo in Africa that a giraffe escaped and was in a highway! It's so sad! A group of red pandas died beacause of rat poisoning! :( a gorilla vomited from being fed the wrong food! That is why zoos are bad.

  • The idea is cool, but the commercialism sucks

Zoological centers probably started out with the best of intentions, to protect species that wouldn't survive in the wild. But many zoos as they are now are making a mockery of that. Animals are caged and used for entertainment à la the circus, and some zoos seem to collect rare species so they can make more money off people who want to see them. Current zoo conditions seriously hamper most animals - planting a tree or two or placing some rocks and sand about doesn't recreate the wild for them, and the result is generation upon generation of animals that wouldn't last a day in their actual natural habitats and who can only thrive in captivity - promoting the zoos' interests. Personally I think reserves are a more sensible approach to species conservation and preservation; the animals are left in their habitats, but these habitats are protected by law from human 'developers', and environmentalists work in the background, only intervening in the animals' lives if it is absolutely required to preserve the delicate ecological balance (for instance, if an epidemic threatens to wipe out the reserve's population of an endangered species, they would provide medical care).

  • ZOOS make me sick

Animals are things that were put on this earth to live in the wild and be happy. And live there lives like they want like humans.BUt that's not happeneing. Everey day animals are captured and taken to zoo's for ''entertainment'' and ''education''.But looking at animals while they are in so much stress and putting them in more stress that's sick. Studies have shon animals live way longer in their habitat in the wild than in zoos.Would you like to be treated like this. That's right you wouldn't.If you wouldn't want to be treated like this than don't treat poor stressful animals like this. They deserve better.

  • Zoos are horrible

Seeing animals trapped like that with so much stress is sick.Animals are meant for the wild that's where they belong you can't just take them away from that.Studies have shown that animals live up to 15 years more in the wild than in the zoo.How would you like this? That's right you wouldn't don't do this to poor helpless animals.

  • Zoos are unethical

Zoos are unethical because the animals live shorter lives, unhappy lives and the animals born into captivity do not know what they are missing. How would you like it if you were taken from your house and were forced to live the rest of your life in prison until you die, that is basically what they do to the wild animals

  • They need their freedom!

Animals shouldn't be locked up in a cage with people bothering the and pounding on the glass. The need to roam around with their real family in their nature habitats where they can their own food and take care of each other, not people forcing them to eat . Zoos can sometimes kill animals if they are behaving weirdly I mean give them another chance. Where in the wild then can be there selves and act however they want and eat whatever whenever.

  • Keep the good, eliminate the prison aspects.

Everything good that a modern zoo offers can and should be done by professional biology/conservation groups outside of the historically "for the entertainment of humans" paradigm. In other words, do the good things like help injured/sick wild animals, etc. but eliminate all wild animal captivity designed only to show people. Keeping animals in unnatural environments for human entertainment is barbaric and "specist". Wild animals must be left in their natural wild environment whenever feasible, and only kept in captivity to help injured/sick/at risk animals.

  • Put Yourself in the Animal's Shoes

Imagine you were an animal, packed up in a small cage with nowhere to go. The zoo-keepers feeding you disgusting food. Even you trying to rest, but faces smash against the glass disturbing you. What would you do and what would you feel. Animals have feelings too. Although you interact with the animals lively, we can still have zoos, but not as many.

  • Because you take animals away from there habitat and there families. Zoo keepers don't do a great job of watching the animal's well hats why.

As other people say zoo are just a waste of time and waste of money. Kids get scared of the animals and the zoo keepers don't really care what happens they just want there money. Zoos are also very very expensive. That's why there shouldn't be any zoos allowed here.

  • Animals have a hard time adjusting to the wild after captivity

Many animals can not be released back into the wild after they are put into zoos. If an animal species is held in a zoo, and they are to large for a rehabilitation room, they will be held in a zoo permanently. Is this really saving a species or imprisoning them.

  • "they make animals unhappy "

I think zoos are bad because they keep some animals in a bad, small environment and they make animals unhappy. Are Zoos really a sanctuary for Wild Animals? For as many visitors as zoos get, who knew such a main attraction and a family entertainment place could be so fun on the outside and terrible and depressing on the inside of the bars.

  • Animals are not a stuffed toy, as they shouldn't be treated like one

Sure it is very interesting to see exotic animals in our community but most animals have adapted to they environment and its not fair that we import animals from Africa, Asia, Europe etc. to adapt to our region because it take thousands of years for an animal to adapt not 3 days.. Zoos are cruel and just a way to make lots of money and not have to supply rides or entertainment that cost even more money to supply as in for show where they have to pay for a cast, but all they have to do in a zoo is to pay for food and people to clean the pens.

  • Humans and animals are both considered mammals

If we are also mammals, then why aren't we also in zoos? What if we were actually locked up in zoos for no apparent reason? What if we were separated from our family? Wouldn't we also develop zoochosis? If we were the animals, we would miss our family, we would have no companions that would love us. We wouldn't know how to hunt for food at all.

  • Animals deserve Better

First off many people think well an animal is protected from predators in a zoo. Yes it is but its the circle of life. And to be honest an animals biggest predator in the wild is humans. Were the ones who are taking their homes and killing them. Also, in lots of zoos animals are forced to reproduce. The zoo will take a male and female animal of the same species and keep them in a small enclosure together until they mate. Also, animals do not have enough room in zoos. Not all zoos shove their animals into a tiny cage. But animals like giraffes are built to run at least 50 miles per day. There is no zoo that gives their animals that much space. Many zoos are feeding their animals the wrong type of food. Fore example lions many zoos feed them processed raw meat. In the wild lions hunt gazelles. Think of it this way if an animal couldn't find a certain food item in the wild why are you feeding it to them in captivity. Their are many more reasons why zoos should be outlawed but i do not wish to bore any readers with an essay.

  • We have no right to put them in prisons

Zoos should only be used to rehabilitate injured wildlife or assist in the captive breeding of endangered animals and then releasing them into the wild not to be sold throughout zoos worldwide. As a kid i didn't understand why the animals paced back and forth, only when i was older i realised how cruel it is, all zoos teach us is that putting animals in cages for our entertainment is ok. We need to move past this, its a big money business and people need to stop going to zoos. The animals that are currently in captivity cannot be released if they were born in captivity cause it would be a death sentence for them in the wild. Let them die on their own terms in the zoos but stop with the breeding and capturing of wild animals.

  • Zoos are bad.

The take animals from the wild and from their families! Animals are sad at zoos. Zoos only care about one thing, entertaining the people and getting money. ( A dead wallaby was left to rot by staff at Tweddle Farm Zoo for two weeks and zoo refused to carry out the information of why the animal died.) ( In 2012, a CAPS undercover investigator filmed sick animals left untreated and dead animals left to rot on the floors at Tweddle Farm Zoo.) Of course zoos are bad. How would you feel if you got taken away from your family and free life and you suddenly ended up in a strange place behind bars with cameras flashing everywhere you move, people looking, laughing, and yelling, no privacy anywhere? Would you like to be in jail, I bet no, and animals do not either, If you want more information, go to these websites,

Note: This is a good topic to talk about and to do for a speech.

HELP THE ANIMALS. Thank you for reading my comment. :)

  • Zoos are bad

I'm not even a tree hugging environmentalist. In fact some would say I'm quite the opposite (Drill baby Drill!). But I have a deep appreciation for nature and the beauty of creation. I think keeping animals penned up is not to different for them then keeping a human penned up. It's a tough question.

  • Zoochosis and Cruelty!!!

Caging animals in enclosed spaces, or even in a large environment, is beyond wrong. Humans should be amused by animals doing what they do naturally, not by animals doing stupid ticks they are FORCED to do to earn MONEY for the zoo owners. For education on animals, we should read or go someplace where you can see exotic animals in their natural habitat. And studies show that animals kept in zoos develop a disease called Zoochisis, which causes animals to want to rip holes in their own skin and grab the zoo bars, ponder, and sometimes even kill themselves. There is proof of this, and if you go to a zoo, just look at the sadness in the animals eyes! Though zoos may sometimes save endangered animals, they shouldn't! It is the cycle of life for animals to go extinct at some point. And if they need to be saved, create wild animal hospital or places where endangered animals aren't USED to make PROFIT and to ENTERTAIN people!!! ZOOS ARE CRUEL TO LIVING THINGS WHICH ALSO HAVE FEELINGS. How would it feel for you to be taken away from your own family to an enclosed space surrounded by strangers?!?!?!?!

  • Zoos deserve even more boos

I hate them they are cruel to the animals. Really America really they should so be baned say boo to zoos they mistreat animals, when they are training they are forced to do certain things like dolphins jumping in the air and elephants they are forced to be trained to swim or monkeys they are forced to be able to flip from branch to branch to branch, also I have barely ever seen monkeys in there cages they are most likely in therapy or they are all at the doctor. Why people why!! Zoos are so inhumane beacause of there population is getting lower and lower and lower every day!! Why America why!!!!! That is why I think zoos are bad.

  • They is bad

  • Inhuman to bound animals in cage for entertainment.

I believe a zoo is a place where animals are wrongly caged for human entertainment. Freedom is a right even to animals. A sanctuary gives them protection and also a sense of freedom, but a zoo does not. Also animals at zoo are at times deprived of chance of social contact with their own species. This is thus a torture and zoos should officially be banned.

  • As much as I love my animalian brethren.

I don't like the idea of them being caged for my amusement. Yes they ARE probably happier in the wild, had man not tampered with them. The way I see it, humans have been destroying habitats and driving species to extinction and trying to make up for it in zoos isn't helpful. Sure, they might survive there without predators and human aid but they are still confined to an area by us. We should leave animals where they are.

  • Animals are animals - not toys for humans

What human would like to be taken from his habitat and thrown into an alien one purely for the purpose of being 'viewed' - as an oddity?
Is that part of conscious existence - to deny another life the freedom of expression and life that you have? Why do we need to 'see' misery to be happy?

  • We try to help..... But are we really helping?

We always say that we need to support animals by providing them a safe environment to live in. Many say that if we put them in zoos, they will be safe from nature, safe from hunters and safe from the rest of the world. At the same time, we are depriving them of natural instincts. We feed them, nurture them and provide them with everything. How can they learn to protect themselves? If we were to release them into the wild, won't they just die after a few weeks? Instead of having zoos, we could have more natural reserves, where we can protect the animals while they live in their natural habitats. Zoos aren't bad, it's how they are created, what they do and how they treat animals that makes the difference.

  • Animals Have Right To Live

Not only humans have right to live , animals have it too.
Also , animals could get stressed by people . For example, people knocking the glass where animals are trapped , throwing things , and screaming . Even people think they have rescued them, but they (animals) would want to go to their nature .

  • Save the animals, NO MORE ZOOS.

We humans love zoos. But, have you ever thought about it from the animals point of view? To them it can be boring, annoying or even, scary. This is not right! NO MORE ZOOS! Period. I love dogs. But, say you liked Tigers. You couldn't have one. Well, you go to a zoo and see one. But, again, just because you like it doesn't give you the right to cage it up in a glass enclosed container.

  • Caging animals is wrong

In zoos, sometimes the zookeepers don't feed the animals what they need. A group of zebras died from hunger because the zoo didn't feed them right. Also, a red panda once died from poisoning because he found rat poison. The poor animals are taken from their natural habitat and caged for our amusement. That isn't right. The animals can be scared and frightened. So no zoos!

  • Zoos can be dangerous

Zoos can be helpful for animals, but can also be very harmful and dangerous! I was just watching a video about when a polar bear attacked a lady who was taking a picture of it. Sure, I feel bad for the lady, but she was to close and the polar bear probably was scared by the camera light

  • Capturing animals is cruelty.

Zoos are capturing animals, and the cages are getting smaller and smaller each time they get something. It is just plain wrong for those poor animals to be captured, when they could be living free in the wilderness. They are for peoples enjoyment, but the animals are not. This is my opinion for zoos.

  • Don't let these poor animals stay in cages

Did you know that animals that are kept in zoos are actually stuck in cages for most of their life. It is terrible for them and its terrible for us watching as if nothing was happening. Save them from captivity and let them be FREEEEEEEE EEEEEEE EEEEEEEE EEEEEE EEEEEE EEEEEE!!!!
By a girl in Year 6!!

  • Bad. . .

While some zoos save animals from dangerous habitats, some argue it is the zoo animals that need the saving. In the first place, most zoo animals are caged in one form or another. The article “Animals Kept in Zoos” states that critics believe that animals kept in unnatural surroundings are less likely to participate in normal mating and hunting activities. This effect is also known as “zoochosis”, which is an effect very similar to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD, in humans. This means that the behaviors of the animals change and they start to develop repetitive habits that they wouldn’t portray in the wild. The same article also states that many people believe that the habitats of the animals are unsuccessful in keeping up with the needs of the animals, and the habitats are unattractive and rarely big enough to fit the animals. Unnatural habitats, overall, are not a good environment for wild animals to live in.
Aside from the dangers to animals of an unnatural habitat, zoos can sometimes take the way they exhibit their animals too far. Zoos often train their animals in an unnatural way. The article “Marine Animal Exhibits: Chlorinated Prisons” states that dolphins and whales are trained to perform unhealthy tricks that can cause them to die decades earlier than they should; some deaths are actual animal suicide. It is very unnecessary for the animals to be taught to perform unnatural activities that may result in death to the animals.
Aside from the dangerous exhibiting of the animals, zoos also use having these animals to perform research on them. The article “Captive Creatures” states “Even at state-of-the-art zoos, there is no way to adequately replicate the natural existence of a lion or tiger, or any other animal held captive. The animals’ habitats can never be as large and diverse in a zoo as they are in the wild. The animals cannot run, roam, climb, hunt, forage, choose a partner, or be with others of their species.” The lack of normal activity provides inaccurate research because the behavior of the animals can change in captivity. Therefore, the negative impact on the animals that comes with this type of research is worthless.

  • Zoos are blood houses to animals

Zoos are merduring innocent animals because they can't substitute what there habitat is like. Some say zoos save endangered species but they kill most of them as soon as they are taken away from their habitat. Most species including fish, frogs, and other small creatures are usually better off when they leave them be

  • A lot of animals die

It is animal abuse just letting them in a cage for 20 years and some zoos feed their dead animals to their carnivores. Also some zoos have animals that die really young because of sicknesses that they get in the zoo. For example one baby orangutan died from pneumonia. Just sick people.

  • Zoos are bad

Zoos are bad because they trap animals in small cages where there is no space for them to roam around in. When they are in that small space they get mad and start attacking each other and get stressed out. I think they should close down zoos and let the animals go back to there natural habitat.

  • Zoo are sad for animals

Zoos are bad because zoos pick up animals from places and put them in the cage. And for animals, cage is just like a jail for animals. And they also get mistreated from the zoo person and some zoos don`t even feed the animals. Thats why zoos are bad. Sad

  • Zoos are harmful towards animals

Many animals are actually harmed because the zoo community regards the animals it keeps and often sell or trade them without any thought of how it may affect them. Even large well known zoos and gauge and dumping the unwanted animals or even stealing animals from the wild. In 2096, accredited zoos in Denver, San Diego, Arizona, and Florida have imported 33 monkeys that have been illegally in trafficed. Do you claim to be protecting and wildlife where actually, they favor the large crowd sourcing animals and neglect the less popular species that actually need saving according to a 2004 report by the world conservation union, Zoos are actually causing pollution and climate change which destroys the animals natural habitat. Captive breeding put more than 7000 animal species and extinction. In reality, the millions of dollars given to zoos do little to nothing to improve the animals health, where instead it's put toward gift shops and concession stands. This clearly shows how nothing is being done to preserve their habitats and health. Another shocking point is that animals could get zoohosis, A type of disease that will harm animals health is they stay exposed to people and/or other animals for too long. These diseases spread easily because the zoo is an unnatural environment that exposes species that would never normally live together. They're also exposed to chemicals, solvents, and other toxic substances.

  • Zoos are mean to animals

How would you like to be in a cage or in a little spot for your hole life. How would you like to have people screaming at you. They need to be set free back were they belong and not in cages and little places but in the wide open space

  • Stop visiting zoos

Zoos likes to claim that they protect endangered animals. Of course we don't want those animals to disappear, but why not protect the animals in their wild habitat? When the animals start working as entertainment to humans, there's money to be earned. When it's about money, this purpose disappears. Then, it's about what's profitable and not.

These are WILD animals that naturally lives in the wild. In a cage they can not give free expression of their natural behavior. Not matter how big a cage, it can't be compared to the wild life. Mental illness is developped, because they can't live as their instincts tell them.

Surplus animals are killed, because there's no room for them or because they are "too old" and needs to be replaced for a change.
Animals that are naturally living in other climates are kept in countries with a climate thats not healthy to them. Only for entertainment.

Please, don't put money and the egoism of humans in front of the welfare and life of the animals. They don't have their own voice, they can't tell us what hurts them. But we can, so stop being so short-sighted.

  • I think that zoos are bad

Zoos are bad for animals. Have you ever heard of this mental disease called zoochosis ? Its like cabin fever but animals get it. They go insane and sometimes it gets so bad that they commit suicide. Zoos do not provide enough space for animals, some peeps do NOT even pay attention to the animals, they just come to the zoos for their kids AND some zoos do not feed their animals the right food. Have you ever heard of the Washington d.C zoo? Zebras and red pandas died. Well yeah thats all. I mean yes you will hear a few articles about zoos that say zoos help endangered animals but later on those animals suffer AND the bad stuff outweighs the good.

  • Zoo animals are often neglected

There r many reports of animals being starved to death or even them being fed rat poisoning. Hybrid animals are often killed cause the zoo owners think that the animal is not cute. Also zoo enclosures r often to small causing less exercise more fatness. Just imagine if u were the animal being took from your home and put on display for everyone to see.

  • Zoos aren't good

Zoos don't give animals the freedom that they need and deserve. Would they be considered good or bad if it was humans trapped behind the glass while animals gawked and pointed at us? I think most people would say bad, so then it should be bad for us to do the same thing to the animals that are in zoos.

  • The ecosystem needs animals

Animals need to be in their homes not in places that just use them for entertainment. And when people say that it protects endangered animals, that is not true because most of the animals are not endangered in zoos. And this is why i think that zoos are bad hua

  • Zoos are bad

Imagine that your a baby and your taking away on your parents .. You don't experience to be on your own family... Zoos are bad because they take animals away from their natural habitat for their own good or to entertain people .. Just to encourage them and influence people

  • Zoos are bad

Zoos are bad for animals because they can make animals go crazy from being in closed cages to long and not being able to roam free in the wild. Zoos also make animals be away from their families. In one zoo a baby bear died from starvation and the zoo thought it was hibernating.

  • Zoo's are awful

Some animals get so miserable that they bite holes in them selves and just think if you were put in a cage and be with random people. People today don't care if animals get hurt they only care about themselves because they don't realize what harm there causing. Zoo keepers are only there for the money.

  • Zoos no good news

Keeping other animals locked in cages for our entertainment, or even education, is immoral. They should be allowed to roam their native habitats freely. Imagine being taken from your homeland and living the rest of your life in an enclosed space for the amusement of others. Zoos are completely unethical.People do not have the right to deprive animals of their freedom.

  • Unfair to the animals!

Animals aren't happy there! They're depressed, bored, and scared! The camera flashes and loud noises are so annoying, many animals have risked their lives to escape! Many even suffer from a condition named "zoochosis" because they suffer from extreme boredom. The animals start swaying back and forth, and they had to be given drugs to be happier after the public caught on!

  • Are zoos good or bad?

    Are zoos good or bad?

Great question! Many people aren’t aware of the cruelty behind zoos, so it’s good that you’re thinking about animals used for entertainment. When I was a kid, I went to the zoo all the time with my family. I loved pandas as a kid (still do!), and I thought being able to see them in person would be neat. But once I saw them “up close and personal,” I realized that the animals were miserable. It instantly became very clear to me that the animals imprisoned in zoos are sad and don’t want to be kept in artificial environments, have people gawk at them, listen to children who bang on the windows of their enclosures, or have cameras flashing in their faces. To put it simply, zoos are imprisoning animals who want to be free.

Captive animals are deprived of everything that is natural and important to them, and as a result, they become bored and lonely and many even suffer from a condition called “zoochosis.” If you’ve ever witnessed a captive animal rock and sway back and forth, you’ve seen the disease firsthand. This condition is so rampant in zoos that some zoos give animals a mood-altering drug, such as Prozac, because the public has started to catch on.

Some animals are so unhappy that they risk their lives in desperate attempts to free themselves. At the Dallas Zoo, a gorilla named Jabari tried to escape by jumping over the walls and moats of his enclosure, only to be fatally shot by police. A witness later confessed that teenagers were taunting him by throwing rocks.

Animals are unable to thrive in small enclosures, especially with unnatural weather and climates. For example, elephants typically walk up to 30 miles in just one day, but Lucy, the lone elephant at the Edmonton Zoo, is locked inside a barn when the zoo is closed and during Edmonton’s frigid winter months, which means she spends most of her time indoors, without much room to move. The near-constant confinement because of the harsh weather has caused Lucy to develop painful arthritis.

In reality, most people only spend a few seconds at each display, waiting for the animals to do something “exciting,” but they gain little, if any, true understanding of the animals. In addition, captive animals don’t get to choose their mates, and they are sometimes artificially inseminated so that their babies can be sold or traded to other zoos. This often results in miscarriages, death at birth, or the mother’s rejection of her young. The Chinese government “rents” pandas to zoos worldwide for fees of more than $1 million per year!

Traveling and roadside zoos are even crueler. Animals are often kept in barren cages, such as concrete pens, and in stressful environments, with nothing more than an old tire or a log to stimulate their minds and enrich their lives. People have also been sickened—and some have died—after contracting diseases from animals in petting zoos.

  • Stop keeping animals in cages

I think animals should not be in cages and should be free out in the wild scientist should protect animals they can protect themselves. Animals need to be with there family and should not be separated by zoo keepers. I thinks animals should be free and not in cages.

  • Why have zoos

I think that animals should be kept free in there natural habitat. Unless the zoos change. If they do here's what I would recommend … BIGGER CAGES you have a big home with a lot of bedrooms and bathrooms and rooms in general. I think animals should have that too

  • They are not good at all.

Zoos are bad for animals because they do not provide living freedom for wild animals. We claim our freedom as human being but we do not think about animals too. Like us, animals also want freedom. They should not be mistreated just for us, human being, to be happy and relax. Thinking about animals living in cages which is not good at all. Animals should also have their normal place to live not in cages. Their natural habitat is a suitable place for them to live in. In addition to that, they have to experience living with their families and neighbors. Zoo is not a good place for wild animals since they are not used to live there. This finally limit them from doing whatever they want.

  • Zoos are horrible.

I once saw a cage with 10 monkeys in. The cage was about 10 meters square, which is only 1 meter square for every monkey. It was simply cruel.

Why can't we just put humans in zoos? We're animals, aren't we? My point is, zoos are horrible and cruel. Thanks for reading.

  • Totally Heart - Breaking

Zoo's take large animals and place them in small cages. Some zoo's may also mistreat them. I also find it very sad that zoo's may take animals out of their natural habitat and away from their families for humans to see. I am never going to a zoo again. It's Garbage. Just plain garbage.

  • They are bad (by a 11 year old)

Its bad because animals don't get place to exercise and they get even fat. Some times they get disease by food passed by us. So that tells its bad to keep zoos instead keep wildlife sanctuaries. So some times they even hurt them a lot. Quit zoos , kill zoos

  • Really People Really

The averge lions territory is 256square kilometres but in a zoo they are trapped in a less than 1sqk cage. Imajin if you were an animal taken out of your homeland and put into a cage away from your family and then tortured. People say that they learn from the way they behave by looking at them from the zoos but the animals behave much differently in the wild

  • Why do they do it!!!

Why cage animals, why let them get laughed at by strangers, why oh why do they do it. In the they are good comments I do support only the fact that they save them and help them better, but, why keep them from their environment and keep them in the zoo for ages, why not let them back to there habitat when they are ready.

(by that I mean healthy and strong)

what they are doing is all WRONG!!!!

  • This is just MAD!!

How dare they just cage up animals like that. It is so not just wright, why do they do it in the first place. The only thing I would like to know is that I have read the good comments I do support the fact that they save animals but they should let them free after a while when they know that they are fine, fit and healthy enough to go back instead of letting them get laughed at like the gorilla on YouTube a few comments above and that is SOOOOOOO cruel. What is there purpose

  • Zoos are bad

I do believe zoos are bad because these animals are separated from there habitat and also the people who go to the zoos can laugh at the animals. Imagine being taken from your home or place you are comfortable in and being in a cage and having people looking at you like an exhibit!

  • I say no to zoos

Zoos should not be aloud in the country because many animals are encaged and unable to move around. It is wrong for animals to have to be moved from their environment for others to see animals without having to go along way. People should go to places them selves instead!

  • Caging Animals Is WRONG!

Zoos bring great entertainment to young children, but some children tap on the glass which may scare some. Furthermore, the animals are caged, and they do not have free roaming accesses. I`ve been to a zoo and I love them! But, I think its cruel to cage animals. So YH

  • Cruelty to animals

Zoos are cruel to animals because they take them out of their natural habitats(mostly in the wild) and put them in either cages or enclosed spaces and if animals escape some of them can severely injure or even kill humans. In conclusion, zoos should be banned because animals need to be able to roam free in a space like their natural habitat

  • Zoos are bad

They may keep them from being extinct, but they force them to mate and don't let them do what they want. They keep them cooped up in cages just for our entertainment! How cruel? Hope you agree with me thanks for reading. I hope all animals are OK. BAD ZOOS!

  • Zoos are just plain cruel

Just because animals are not human, they are inhabitants of the world we live in. We are all earthlings, sharing the world. But zoos are just a common example of the ignorance of the human species. We act as if we are so high and mighty, we can capture animals and keep them locked up in cages. Animals may not look or think or act like us humans, but they can still feel pain like us. What right do we have to take them out of their natural habitat, and keep them in a loud, stuffy, noisy place where they don't belong. What right do we have to breed from them so that some poor animal never gets to see where it should have been. We do not dominate over them! We are all equals but we should treat them that way.

  • Unfair, Unjust, Downright Persecution

Zoos bring animals from their natural habitats to cage them just so people can have entertainment. Animals, such as zebras, need space to roam free and run. Also, what if an animal, is mad or just downright crazy? People outside the cage or glass would laugh, jeer, and point.
The animals want to be with their family. And besides some animals need a different climate than others. And that is why I say that zoos are unfair, unjust, and an example of downright persecution.

  • Zoos are wrong

Zoos are wrong because animals are squished in the tiniest spaces bored, sad and taken away from there families. They get Stressed and become more fierce and zoo keepers are more likely to get killed. Animals were designed to survive in their natural habitat, without the help of human beings.

  • Zoos are bad

Zoos are bad because they keep animals locked up behind bars instead of being free. We are not locked up for our hole life. If I could do anything I would be locked up behind bars for the animals to be free. Please free the animals please free the animals

  • Don't let animals suffer

Because animals could get harmed in the wild. It is very sad the way people are mean to them and they are lovely even the ones wich are wild but every animal deserves a good life. No one should let animals suffer anymore so please say that zoos are not bad thanks xx
    hs xx

  • They should be banned

There is no argument that supports why zoos are good. They don't educate our children - who wants to see animals caged up out of their natural habitat. It's a myth that the animals are rescued - they are often taken from the wild for our entertainment! Only a couple of years ago a UK zoo sold white lions to a circus in Japan to be exploited. The animals are often culled in zoos. A lot of the animals have behavioural vices due to boredom and frustration. At present 70% of th UK's elephants have been taken from the wild and live less than they would in the wild.
They should be banned as animal circuses were.

  • Because I'm Australian

Zoos are painful.. They tear apart animals from there homes and habitats... Zoos shouldn't exist. Like America shouldn't exist. This may be random for most of you. But I'm not from this world... Sorry but if you don't repost this. A little girl will kill you in your sleep gg ;D

  • What if YOU were the animal!

Some people say zoos are good, but put yourself in the animals shoes. You would be tranquilized, then taken away from your family and friends to be 'observed and studied'. But really you are just being used for entertainment! Then being feed the same food every single day! Some animals risked their lives to escape out of the zoo because zoos are like prisons, when they do try its usually the humans, I'm not saying humans are bad. :)

  • Zoos are not much different than the circus

Zoos nowadays have been widely known as a weekend family trip or a special school trip as an way of entertainment in the name of education.
The similarity between a zoo and a circus is awfully shocking.
We all know that circus lock the animals up In a cage which can also be known as an confined space . Now wait a minute isn't that what the zoo keepers do? Zoos are just another name precisely for a circus .The animals don't get a choice and just do what they are forced to do.For example

  • Zoos are immoral

Zoos harm animals. It is wrong to harm animals because of the fact that they feel pain. We and it doesn't matter if they're not people. We cannot hold people superior to animals.
    Richard Sarjeant states:
"Every particle of factual evidence supports the contention that the higher mammalian vertebrates experience pain sensations at least as acute as our own. To say that they feel less because they are lower animals is an absurdity; it can easily be shown that many of their senses are far more acute that ours--visual acuity in certain birds, hearing in most wild animals, and touch in others; these animals depend more than we do today on the sharpest possible awareness of a hostile environment. Apart from the complexity of the cerebral cortex (which does not directly perceive pain) their nervous systems are almost identical to ours and their reactions to pain remarkably similar, though lacking (so far as we know) the philosophical and moral overtones. The emotional element is all too evident, mainly in the form of fear and anger."
We feel pain. Therefore, it is immoral to hurt anything else that feels pain. Animals feel pain. By this philosophy, it is immoral to hurt animals. Zoos hurt animals. Therefore, zoos are immoral.

  • Bad bad bad

Zoo's are bad because they are made for freedom. Also they don't release them. There cages are way more smaller then the wild life that they used to live in. They need more space, like us. They belong in the wild. They don't live in a big place and social place like us. They just need freedom. That's what I think

  • I don't think that zoos are o.K.

I do not like zoos or think that they are good because I think they are keeping animals, endangered and common, and taking them away from their natural habitats and forcing them to live in a small world for human entertainment. I think it is wrong that they are taking the animals away from their families.

  • No ,No ,No, and NO

Animals would probably be happier in the wild, using their LEARNED instincts, and not wanting to die while in captivity. The only thing some monkeys and parrots do all day in zoos is groom themslefs until they have no fur/feathers left. Why would anyone want to suffer from zoochosis? The government sees people are unhappy with zoos but they don't do anything. They argue where the moneys at.

  • They are bad

Any human wouldnt want to be in captivity so why do animals have to suffer? If you were locked up in a cage all day doing nothing but pacing around-bored waiting to be fed instead of hunting and using instinct(as if you were an animal) how would you like it? And the nervosness of knowing people are watching your every move, laughing and pointing. I say zoos are like prisons.

  • One word. Zoochosis.

Zoochosis is only happening to zoo animals.(hence the name) The symtoms are ripping of their own skin, bobbing heads, twisting their necks. Junuor was an orca. He died FOUR years after being put in captivity. Zoos rip animals form their natural family and place them wit others they don't know.

  • Zoos are bad

People don't think about it but when animals are taken out of the wild an cared for they cant go back. They get used to the people healing them and cant go back to their families. So by making the animals live in the zoos is making the world less populated in certain areas. Zoos need to stop taking the animals out of the wild!!!

  • Animals do not deserve to be caged.

Not all zoos are cruel, and not all zoos neglact their animals. A few zoos like the San Diego Zoo in California try to do what the animals want. However, a vast majority follow no standards for minimum treatment at all. According to a report by Humane Societies of the United States and the United Kingdom, only 10% of animal exhibits have been appoved by animal protection organizations. Animals do not belong in prisons, nor do they deserve to be drugged. Animals deserve to be free. It is only when animals are in the wild, when they are FINALLY FREE TO DANCE.

  • Zoos are cruel for animals.

Not all zoos are cruel, and not all zoos mistreat animals. In some zoos, people communicate with animals. However, a vast majority of zoos do not give the minimum treatment at all. Like some opinions over, food and shelter is not in good quality. Also, according to a report by the Humane Societies of the United States and the United Kingdom, only 10% of animal exhibits have been approved by animal protection organizations. Zoos may mean well, but in the long run, they do more harm to the animal kingdom than good. It is only when animals are in the wild when they are free to dance.

  • Zoos are cruel

Animals shouldn't be kept in cages they need t roam free. The reason why we are running out is because we are sticking them in cages and they are getting depressed and not eating. How would you like it if someone came and locked you in a cage. No for zoos

  • I think animals in zoos are not safe. They need more space and more food that is GOOD for them!!!

There are monkeys in zoos and they barely have enough room in those tiny cages to roam around and play!!!! The elephants too they barely have a meter in there of space. (not literally)!!!! But they still don't have much space!!!!! The cages are small the food is bad and they treat them for entertainment not for what they really are!!

  • Treating animals like prisoners

Animals like lions need soft grass to run around in but the zoos give them hard floors with cracks what's that. They starve the animals then they start to chew on the bars because why there hungry and starving. Zoos are not good for animals to be in why are zoos still standing. When trainers come to feed the animals the animals get mad and start to bit and sometimes kill these trainers because the way there being treated. THANK YOU FOR READING THIS I HOPE U ENJOYED IT.

  • Zoos are not right

Keeping animals in cages for our "education" or entertainment is not okay. They have feelings too. Watching animals pace around their prisons and repetitively pawing at the bars of their cage isn't even educational. It would be better to go see them in their natural habitats. Some zoos are worse than others though. It would be much better to put a side a few miles or something of land and put animals in there with companions and watch what they really do with people compassionate for animals caring for them. This would be more beneficial for humans and the livestock on the other side of the bars. I love going to zoos just as much as the next guy, but it is not right for the animals. Some zoos kill extra animals or send them to a completely different and strange place. Animals do sometimes need people looking out for them but that is because of people. Take care of the poachers, not the animals. Sometimes we do need to take them in and help, but not like this.

Let animals be themselves and be in the wild with their herd.
