No, Antarctica should not be preserved from exploitation, because humans are naturally curious. There is a lot that we can learn about Antarctica that would help us understand our world. Perhaps studying the area can make sure that we find ways to preserve it. There is not sense in preserving an area that is so cold people can't comfortably go there.
By definition, every piece of land on planet earth is unique. Antartica fits that description as well, but a blanket ban on searching for resources there makes no sense.
