Factory farming enables many people around the world to access food who otherwise wouldn't be able to. While "treating animals as commodities" is necessary, in this regard, there should be much more stringent regulation as well as enforcement. The way animals are treated in some of these factories is appalling and horrendous.
While factory farming can be reformed and changed, ultimately its still killing large amount of animals for human consumption. Meat has always been a luxury item in history, and the ready availability of meat today is to the benefit of all in the Western world. As more people throughout the developing world, more, not fewer, factory farms will be the end result.
