  • It can but slowly... by aiding the healing process.

Sportsmanship promotes respect for ones opponent. Seeing people that you idolise show respect such as shaking hands with the opposition and extending to them the spirit of fair play will challenge the warped perception of the world that extreme nationalists have. These beliefs are further challenged by the opposition team preforming well, the success of cricketers such as Brian Lara would dispel the myth the "Englishmen are best at cricket" or even "Only white men are good at cricket".

While sport disproves eugenicists and extreme nationalist, it provides a good outlet for moderate nationalism. It is better for nationalism to be expressed on the sports field than on the battlefield. A good case study would be Scottish nationalism. Jim Sillars quipped that Scotland was a nation of “ninety minute nationalists” – surely it’s better to exercise national tension on the sports field?
In conclusion while I admit sport will not solve world conflicts overnight but surely for the reasons outlined above go little bit of the way to solving and healing some of them.

  • Why would it not?

The world has so much violence. One county gets mad at another for being mad. Then a war breaks out. International sports allow for all conrtries to get together and understand ethnics. Think about how far we have come with African amerians and women. They are now allowed to play sports. Who knows whats next with sports.

  • Yes, sports do bring peace to the world as we known.

If people talk that sports will bring an argument, but it only happens within a short time. There are no recording of history that any war started because of war. In fact sports help some country to develop a better place for their citizens that can bring the country to peace

  • Anything can help

Proper showcasing of sports can help bring the importance of connecting countries, sportsmanship, and someday may show the world just how stupid some of our wars really are. The Olympics is an example of a large event that can be showcased as a friendly competition between countries (who oppose each other). It unites viewers to a similar goal and connects them on an event that is (relatively, or not, in some cases) non-violent.

  • Sport definitely doesn't bring world peace.

When people of different countries compete in sports, they become rivals, and sometimes it can lead to enmity. Simultaneously, their supporters will have conflicts, or arguments, between each other. Eg. If there is a football match between 2 teams, the supporters of one team will argue or even fight with the supporter of the opposite team.

  • Sports can not bring world peace.

That is plain crazy. Sports are a great recreational past time, but it can not bring world peace. They are great to watch, even play. They are a great way to forget world problems, at least for a short time. We have an international love for sports, and that is as far as it goes. You can't sign a peace treaty over a game of tennis.
