Capitalism (yes) vs. socialism (no): Which is better at dealing with class in society?

  • There is true equality.

Equality is about an equal start, how you end up is up to you, you can either choose to be successful or not, it's your choice. That's what capitalism gives you, options, the ability to progress or regress. In a free market capitalist society you truly have the ability to be great, but you'll also have competitors which will make you want to be better or do more, where as with socialism you can only go so far.

  • Capitalism is good.

Capitalism is about keeping what you have, while Socialism is about taking what you have. And if you think that only the "rich" will be taxed, then you fell for it hook, line, and sinker, my friend. And secondly, whoever told you that capitalism was going to be easy??? It's supposed to give you opportunity, not an immidiate mansion! You have to WORK (gasp) for it.

  • Capitalism is freedom to move up but also down.

Capitalism is the only economic where no one stuck in the class they were born into. Capitalism allows one to overcome the chains of rags and roaches. Problem is capitalism only works if you are willing to participate, it will and should do nothing more than allow you to pursue the status you want. The great thing is the pot is bottomless. The caveat is that it must be paired with a Free Market.

  • America is good

Fundamentally Socialism is better than Capitalism at dealing with class in society. Socialism has the classes being more equal than in Capitalism. The issue is that the Socialism form of government simply does not work other than in Fundamental thought. In the real world Capitalism works while Socialism does not

  • Socialism is a way of beinging in the nation as a whole.

America is a nation divided. Its states are afflicted with drug and alcohol abuse. Why? Necause the nation as a whole is full of corrupt politicians who are out there to take all our money. Capitalism is simply creating another Germany when Hitler was führer. Capitalism, whether it occurs now or later, will create more power hungry politicians where as Socialism takes the vote of majority from the ENTIRE NATOON AS A WHOLE where as Capitalism is run by untrustworthy politicians. I rest my case.

  • Socialism wins over capitalism

Thinking that just because you were born into a rich family means you are better than someone else who was not is just plain idiotic. Wealth is so lop sided in the US that its taking a toll on the nation as a whole and its time to try a new plan by making the rich use their money to help the hopeless.

  • Nothing absolute exists when we talk about humans.

The same goes for the economy. Socialism and capitalism both have their pros and cons, but the most functional system would come out of a mixture of both.
I believe that most Americans tend to believe that capitalism is the best economic system, even when the consequences are so painfully obvious. Not because they know how capitalism works, or even understand what capitalism truly mean, but because they have been told that it is the best system, and that's the end of that.

  • Capitalism is not best. However...

Neither is socialism. A manichean, either one or the other, argument is useless. The ignoring of psychology, sociology, the environment, biology etc when attempting to discuss "the economy" results in flawed arguments and responses. A mixed system which allows people to succeed while providing a safety net is the correct response. Smith's fallacy of the invisible hand combined with the trap of Ricardian trade policy results in disparity which the top class will always attempt to lock into place. This happens because it must happen when economic theology is placed ahead of the real world.
