Chinese baby hatches: Do you think baby hatches are good for Chinese society?

  • A Net Positive

    1. Most admitted to Guangzhou, the largest one, had birth defects
and not related to the sex of the infant.
    Now 90% have survived

    2. It is considered a better option than abortion which can be forced
and is far more negative in China.

The only drawback is because of the Chinese mentality it may actually encourage more abandonment but only to an extent.
Overall it is a net positive that can survive in the social order and give these kids a chance.

    I mean 90% survived!

The thing that could be done better is education and birth control,
which would make the need for abortion/baby hatches less.

"Xu Jiu, the director of the Guangzhou Child Welfare Centre, said it had taken in 262 children since it opened on 28 January. All the babies – 67% of whom were less than a year old – had varying degrees of illness. More than 90% survived."

  • It saves lives.

Yes, I think that baby hatches are good for Chinese society, because it saves the lives of many girls. Girls who are born are often killed or left for dead. Until they allow the Chinese to have a second child if they have girl the first time, they have to have baby hatches to save the girls from certain death.

  • Supporting Life is Key to Society

It is always a good thing to preserve a life, especially the life of an innocent infant. While overpopulation can have tragic results on a society, worse still is a society that looks upon newborns as disposable refuse. There is always someone with empty arms willing to take in a child that cannot be supported by their blood family; and there is always some organization or committee that will gladly make themselves available to help initiate the process of placing these children in proper homes after receiving proper medical care from personnel at hatches and getting their birth certificates or identification papers solidified. In other words, there is always a better choice than simply disposing of a child and that choice happens to be hatches. The concept of a China that treasures its new lives is a better society and that can be most readily shown with hatches.

  • Baby Hatches Are Better Than Abortions

China has long had a one child policy, with stiff penalties and fines for parents who defy the government and have more children. Families can have two children if the first one is a girl, because of the preference for boys. The problem is, what happens when a family has two girls but no boy? Too often, this situation has meant that a girl baby had less of a chance of surviving. Baby hatches are definitely not ideal, but they are saving lives.

  • Yes it may be

I'm sure their are many people against baby hatches, and I can understand why, but I think they should be allowed especially in populated countries so as to combat abortions and to simply help poor single mothers who can not afford to support the baby. Some people are not ready to have a baby and so it may be better to let others take care of it instead of aborting it.

  • It is criminal.

How could a government with such control let such a thing happen? So if your child doesn't work out you can just abandon the child and make another child more suitable to your needs??? It is a criminal thing - where is the humanity????????? What a hypocritical government. China lives in a reverse world where good is bad and bad is good.
