Chris Columbus directed Home Alone after dispute with Chevy Chase over National Lampoon: Is Home Alone the superior movie?

  • Yes, I think so.

So while many folks might disagree with me, for my money Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is the more enjoyable film. It may not be the most original, but it better captures that Christmas feeling that most people associate with the series and is a great movie to watch with the family on Christmas Eve. Home Alone 2 gives us Christmas in New York City and all the magic that entails. If you have never been to the Big Apple during the holidays, it is something that really needs to be experienced to be believed. The Christmas Spirit is almost a palpable thing, hanging in the air and daring you not to get swept up in the emotion.

  • It is more famous.

Home Alone is a better movie than the National Lampoon movies because Home Alone appeals to multiple generations. The National Lampoon movies are not movies that you can watch with your kids. They are for older audiences. Home Alone is a fun, slap stick movie that has light-hearted comedy that is perfect for family viewing.

  • Home Alone is more enduring.

It's fairly difficult to compare the two films as they are of such different genres and aimed at different demographics. However, given that Home Alone is still considered to be a minor institution to this day and continues to chime so much with popular culture to this day, it is fair to say that it is the superior movie.

  • National Lampoon is a classic.

While Home Alone had its time in the lime-light, the National Lampoon franchise has remained a classic favorite among all generations, even to this day. National Lampoon's humor can often be enjoyed by all ages, while Home Alone is more restricted to younger audiences. National Lampoon is clever and contains a lot of social commentary.
