Christie on Israel: Should Chris Christie's views on whether or not Palestine is an "occupied territory" even matter?

  • It does if he wants to continue being an elected official.

Chris Christie, as a politician is in a position to be openly scrutinized for essentially everything he says or does. Due to this he needs to be very clear and careful about what sentiments he chooses to express. If he someday wants to be president he needs to take into account how foreign leaders will view his words on all subjects. Angering the wrong people now with his views could easily harm his career in the future.

  • It matters if he runs for president

At the current time it doesn't really matter because he has no effect
on policy on foreign affairs as a Governor. However, if he does end up
running for President soon, then it does matter because he will set the
tone for the country on how we view Israel and surrounding areas.

  • The quote by Christie should not matter

The quote by Chris Christie in regards to Palestine being occupied territory does not matter. Christie misspoke and poorly phrased his viewpoints. It is a general view of most of the member's of his party that Israel is right in their approach to the settlement issue. Christie is a moderate of his party, so it is likely that he falls into that category. I doubt he believes either side is occupying the other's territory.
