Church of England members advocate gay marriage: Should same-sex marriage be deemed religiously and morally acceptable?

  • Non-Standard Marriage and Church Support

Gay marriage, whether for it or against it, is here to stay. The Church of England advocates for gay marriage recognizes this shift and is willing to make it a recognized part of church doctrine. Gay marriage does not marginalize and throws out the basic church beliefs. In fact, it is practicing the belief that all people must be loved and accepted both religiously and morally.

  • Because it is

While there may be things in religious texts that point toward gay marriage being wrong, there are many things still in there as well about how we treat adultery and other things that we now consider outdated. We can't just selectively interpret the Bible and other teachings because we don't like one group.

  • As long as it doesn't harm anyone else

As long as the two people in the marriage are happy and love each other and are causing no one else any harm, then same-sex marriage should absolutely be acceptable for everyone. There's too much domestic violence in traditional marriages anyway, so religion really shouldn't stop a loving marriage from taking place.

  • Gay Marriage Support

I believe Gay Marriage should be accepted into society because if you love a person, shouldn't you be able to marry them? Homosexual acts have been going on for decades even centuries, why judge and discriminate, now? A man shalt not lay with another man, bullshit. PLEASE. The person/people who wrote the bible probably tried and didn't like it so they deemed it sinful. Jesus, the son of god, the prophet, who cares... Probably did it with a man and didn't tell nobody, we don't know. A book made a thousand years ago shouldn't matter or exist in this society as something we need to worship and follow but a book of good literature for all sake. Religion so far disgusts me and proves how idiotic our species is to follow a book in which we do not even know get anything from. Religion is just a fill in the bank.

  • It goes both ways

To me, there are two main aspects to this question; on the moral side to deny same-sex couples the right to marry for any reason is discriminatory. And on the religious aspect, whether or not a particular religion is comfortable with marrying gay couples is their choice. However, it also seems to me that religion should not practice exclusivism. Religion has been used as an excuse to exclude a particular group because they're different.

  • Religions supporting gay rights should be left to do so

This is a question best left to each religion. There is no single answer for all, but the freedom of religion allows each person to worship a religion whose belief system they agree with. No person can deem something morally acceptable and thus make it so. What is moral to you may be immoral to me, there is no universal truth.

  • Church of satan

If the laity supports gay marriage then the laity is outside of the christian community, for marriage can be only between a man and a woman. The church of England is outside the community of christians, and there is no salvation possible outside of of that community. If you are in it, leave it, if you want to join it, do not.It is Satan's will not the will of the lord that you will find in the C of E.

  • Perversion as perversion

Don't know of ANY religion that condones premarital sex let alone bestiality, pedophilia, homosexuality. A person who is controlled by their lusts and sexual appetites, have demonstrated a complete lack of morality, maturity, and decency. No one can say it is natural, and those who do are bowing down to external pressures to hang on to their financial, status, that isn't agreement its extortion, take manny pacquiao, being dropped from Nike. And there is Hell to pay, pardon the pun.

  • No to gay marriage

What is forbidden by God should not be tempered by men because of their lust.In the bible,it is for this reason of gay marriage that God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. What is lawful before the wisdom of men cannot be considered lawful before god. For,the spring of law is god as far as the conscience of man is concerned. What is morally wrong cannot be set right by desire of lustful indulgence.

  • The Truth Standard

In today's world it seems that people love to debate morality issues because they think that morality is not definitive. If the Church of England claims to follow Christ then their belief system should be based off of Christ's teachings. It is perfectly clear that God does not endorse same sex marriage as He has revealed many times through His Word. For anyone to claim to follow Christ yet does not hold to His teachings, have no right to identify themselves with Christ or a church of Christ...They've become a religion of their own. It's obvious that society does not base their moral acceptance off of God's moral code. Otherwise, we wouldn't have same sex marriage, adultery, pornography, premarital sex, etc...So the question becomes, do you base morality off of God's standard or your own? For Christians, they are one in the same. For others, it is subjective. However, Jesus answered the question a long time ago.

  • Read the book

Depending on the religion involved, look to the tenets of that particular religion from the book/bible/etc for acceptance or not. Pretty simple.

Morally acceptance is another animal. The morals change from culture to culture. Some cultures are based on principals ..... Say the bible as the US is. Then again, the culture of people changes & that's where the accepted morals are debated. So, this question should have been split into two rather than one.
