Citizen initiative: Do ballot initiatives improve governance?

  • Ballot initiatives do tend to improve governance

Ballot initiatives are a good way to govern because they tend to be a more direct form of government.People are able to tell the governing party exactly what they think about a particular issue and they will know what is on the people's minds and make decisions based on that premise.

  • Ballot initiatives do not improve governance.

No, ballot initiatives do not improve governance because they just put an issue on the ballot, but they do not really solve the issue. I think that a lot of changes that need to happen are needed changes in culture, not in law. If all they do is change the law, then it won't solve the problem.
