CNN porn: Should CNN be subject to a fine for porn being aired one their network?

  • They should have controlled it.

In America, there are pretty strict standards about what can be shown on mainstream television. America is actually a pretty conservative society. CNN should have had better internal controls. There should have been no way that the porn was shown for 30 minutes without someone noticing. They should be fined to deter them from it happening again.

  • They should absolutely be fined.

Yes, CNN should be fined for airing porn on its network. Our children have enough perverse stuff being forced on them. They don’t need such diabolical “errors” and mistakes happening. CNN should be fined just for good measure. Maybe they will work toward improving their attention span and their security efforts.

  • I don't think it was

It seems to be either an unsubstantiated rumor or a fake news story that CNN accidentally aired porn, so the network shouldn't be subject to any fines. If it's not been proved or verified, how can anyone charge them with FCC violations? That's right, you can't, unless you can prove it actually happened.

  • CNN did nothing wrong, and even if they did, a fine would send a dangerous precedent.

There is no evidence that CNN actually allowed pornography to be shown on its network, accidentally or otherwise. All signs point to an internet hoax. That said, even if there were an accidental airing of adult content, the chilling effect on free speech that would stem from fining a cable network (which doesn't broadcast over publicly-owned airwaves) would far outweigh any social gains from the fine itself.
