Cop leaves gun in elementary school bathroom: Should police officers be punished for leaving their gun in public?

  • That was very careless, he should lose his job

Had the wrong person walked into that bathroom this could have ended in tragedy. At the very least the police officer should lose his job, and maybe even face criminal charges and a jail sentence. Police officers have important jobs which should not be given to people who show this degree of recklessness.

  • Yes they should

Police officers should definitely be punished for leaving their gun in public. It is a dangerous weapon and can be abused and used to kill or maim. Recently a police office left a lethal weapon in an elementary school bathroom. The circumstances of how he did this are not clear to me, as I can see how the police force would let someone so negligent into their industry.

  • Especially in an elementary school

An officer leaving a gun in an elementary school is creating a huge risk of death or serious injury. Children, are often impulsive and younger ones don't realize how final death is, or how much damage a gun can do. A child could have found it and fired it just because. So if you are careless with a loaded weapon, there should be some consequence so it doesn't happen again.

  • Police officers should be punished for leaving their guns in public

Police officers should be punished for leaving their guns in public. Well clearly a mistake, police officers should be held to a higher standard and displayed a higher level of care, especially when it comes to weapons which can cause death or serious bodily injury. It should not be a fireable offense, but something that does get the point across to the offending officer.

  • Yes, police officers should be punished for leaving their gun in public.

Yes, police officers should be punished for leaving their gun in public because it shows they are not doing their jobs. A cop should protect people, and by leaving a gun in public, no one knows who will pick it up and how they will use it. The gun could end up in the wrong hands.
