Could Salvador Allende have done more to prevent the military coup that led to his ouster?

  • Salvador could of done more

Salvador Allende could of done more to prevent his ouster but he was not careful enough and did not take enough preventative measures to prevent it. The military coup did not come as a surprise to many people and they saw it coming because Salvador did not take serious the actions of the military.

  • Yes: Allende Should have Done More to Prevent his Ouster

Hindsight is twenty twenty. There are plenty of things that, upon reflection, we wish we had differently. Allende is no exception. The CIA back coup, which installed Pinochet into power in Chile was a terrible turn of events and it's clear that the Chilean people would likely have wished he had done more. In reality, the fault lies with the perpetrators of the crime that led to his ouster.

  • the military coup

I personally agree,As president, Allende adopted a policy of nationalization of industries and collectivization; due to these and other factors, increasingly strained relations between him and the legislative and judicial branches of the Chilean government – who did not share his enthusiasm for socialization – culminated in a declaration of a "constitutional breakdown" by the parliament.

  • Salvador Allende Prevented

I personally think that As president, Allende adopted a policy of nationalization of industries and collectivization; due to these and other factors, increasingly strained relations between him and the legislative and judicial branches of the Chilean government – who did not share his enthusiasm for socialization – culminated in a declaration of a "constitutional breakdown" by the parliament. A centre-right majority including the Christian Democrats, whose support had managed Allende's election, denounced his rule as unconstitutional and called for his overthrow by force. On 11 September 1973 the military moved to oust Allende in a coup d'état.

  • no, he could not have.

Salvador Allende could not have done more to prevent the military coup that led to his ouster. For one, I think he did all he could with the situation he was dealy, and secondly, the entire thing just wound up being out of his control. It would have happened this way regardless.
