Could the brain become vulnerable to hacking like a computer

  • Manipulation taken to another level

This will happen one day or the other. Humans are getting manipulated. It is easier to manipulate them day by day with increasing number of people getting trapped due to scams on the two faced internet. We are getting exposed to the net and we are totally immersed in our electronic gadgets. If manipulation of beings is getting easier day by day this is bound to happen.

  • People do this all the time already.

Computer hacking is exploiting how a system works to produce a result not intended by that system.

People's percieved realities are systems, and there are many ways to hack it. Blackmail is a perfect example of hacking into a human (or their brain, if you will), to control them. People are controlled by money, their own fears, other people's understanding of their own fears, love, trolling, all kinds of stuff.

I don't think the brain is ever not vulnerable to hacking - we just do the best we can to lead happy lives, hacked or not.

  • With growing knowledge comes growing problems

Our knowledge about neurology is an opportunity to do a lot of good, but it's also an opportunity for some to do bad. Just as people who understand computers can if they choose hack into computers we may in the future have people who understand how to hack into people's brains using technology. Hopefully scientists have thought of this and someone is studying ways to create a neurological version of antivirus and spyware and malware protection and encryption systems for disguising one's thought patterns from spies.

  • No, you cannot do that.

I'm a student at a college in USA and I can assure you, it's impossible to do this, you cannot plug a cord into your head therefore it's impossible to control. I think that it's also impossible to even monitor the brain and all this is made up. Hacking your brain, ha! That's like charging an iPhone without a cord, impossible!!!

  • Yes, but a very long time from now

Everybody's brain is different on a small scale due to epi-genetics, true "mind control"/brain hacking would be an amazing technological feat. Because it would require such complex mapping of the neurons in a person's brain. What exists right now (crude stimulation of neurons) compared to the 'hacking' people get scared about is like a caveman making fire compared to the modern lightbulb

  • Brain Waves Are Weak Electro-Magnetic Waves, Same as Electronic Wi-Fi Signals

Therefore, if sufficient research went into it, brain waves which control motor function or the generation of new ideas could be found. Using these brain wave patterns, it would be theoretically possible to broadcast a signal which would plant a new idea or motor command into people's brains if the signal was the same frequency as that which our brain waves were using. The two would generate interference which would lead to the persons thoughts being disturbed.

However, from a practical viewpoint in contemporary 2014 terms, it would be almost impossible for this to become a reality. But it is still possible.

  • Trust Your Willpower

Whatever one would define as a (brain) hack, it is equally feasible to design a defense, or balancing force to negate said hack. For example, there's a definite connection between the results of those who are willing to be hypnotized and those who simply don't believe it works on them.

  • No it's impossible

If you're going to effectively hack something, there needs to be some sort of mathematical determination for how to keep something under control. The human brain doesn't work like that. Our thoughts are created by nonlinear processes that aren't even random in the same way a computer is random. We're pretty hard to hack.

  • Actually you can...

You can charge an iPhone without a cord, wireless charging is a thing...
Aside from that, my colleague clearly does not know what utter crap is coming out of his keyboard. You cannot hack what you do not understand, and the human brain is so large and complex, that to even hope to understand it is stupid.
